1 12 MUST-KNOW STITCHES A series of 2-hour workshops that focus on learning some of the most popular beadweaving stitches. Bead weaving is the art of stitching beads together using needle & thread to make beautiful, wearable jewelry. Each workshop is $20 & includes all materials to make a fabulous finished bracelet. Sign-for for as many as you like. No previous experience necessary. (Note: Beads used may vary slightly due to availability.) Peyote Stitch Peyote is known as the Queen of all bead weaving stitches. It is also called the Gourd Stitch. Learn all the tricks & tips to master this basic stitch. Friday, November 3, 11:00-1:00 p.m. Spiral Rope Chain Another of the major bead weaving stitches. It has a very simple structure that can be modified to create all kinds of beautiful spirals. Tuesday, November 7, 11:00-1:00 p.m. Right Angle Weave Also known as RAW. In this commonly used stitch, beads are woven together with thread only making right angle turns, hence the name. Friday, November 10, 11:00-1:00 p.m. Triangle Weave This beautiful stitch, which produces a series of triangular units instead of square ones, is one of those stitches that for some reason I forget to dust off and use. Tuesday, November 14, 11:00-1:00 p.m. Herringbone Also called Ndebele. A striking bead weaving stitch that earned its name because each pair of beads lies at an angle, resembling the backbone of a fish. Tuesday, November 21, 11:00-1:00 p.m. Diamond Chain A close cousin to Right Angle Weave. An easy-to-master stitch that creates a flexible series of intricate diamond shapes. A versatile stitch that every beader should know. Tuesday, November 28, 11:00-1:00 p.m. Daisy Chain A Native American style of beadweaving that creates interlocking circular flower patterns. The stitch lends itself to a variety of adaptations depending on your bead choice. Friday, December 1, 11:00-1:00 p.m. Brick Stitch Also known as the Cheyenne Stitch or Comanche Stitch. In this stitch perfected by Native Americans the beads are stacked horizontally in the same pattern as bricks stacked in a wall. Interesting Fact: If you turn a brick stitch pattern 90 degrees it looks like peyote stitch. Tuesday, December 5, 11:00-1:00 p.m. Russian Spiral The Russian spiral stitch is a type of tubular netting that forms a distinctive and gorgeous spiral design in a flexible rope chain. Be warned...it is highly addictive. Friday, December 8, 11:00-1:00 p.m. Russian Chevron One of the more obscure stitches that deserves more time in the spotlight. The weave creates a wide but delicate strip of beadwork that is perfect for lightweight bracelets. It is worked in three sections which are easily adapted by adding more beads to get larger, more lacy pieces. Friday, December 15, 11:00-1:00 p.m. Chenille Stitch Chenille is the French word for caterpillar. The Chenille stitch is a hybrid between herringbone & netting stitch and it makes a lacy, fairly open rope. Friday, December 22, 11:00-1:00 p.m. Double St. Petersburg Personally, this is one of my most favorite stitches. Perfect for gentle, delicate, feminine bracelets & necklaces.
