1 The Nokota Conservancy This pattern is provided to you free of charge in hopes that you will support the efforts of The Nokota Conservancy, a non-profit organization whose mission is to save the Nokota horses. Please visit to learn more about these historic horses. Please donate what you can at that website in lieu of payment for this pattern. Then, enjoy beading this beautiful bracelet and wear it with pride. - Page 1 of 9
2 General Instructions This bracelet is done with peyote stitch (body of bracelet) and brickstitch (clasp and beaded beads) and will produce a bracelet 7 long if done with Delicas. Material List Materials listed below are for the 7 Body of the bracelet. You can lengthen or shorten the bracelet by using more beads, and you will need more to do a loop and toggle clasp. 3 Graph with Symbols Word Map General information: Start with a comfortable length of thread, the longer the better. As you work, do not use knots to add more to the working thread. Instead, weave in the tail of the old thread, and cut the excess with the thread burner once secured. Start a new thread back in the beadwork and weave until the thread is secured in the beadwork. Then weave over to exit the last bead exited when you did your last peyote or brick stitch of the pattern. Row 1 in the graph above is the top row; row 51 is the bottom row. You are working from the bottom up, so follow the directions below in the descending row order, as they are written. As in all peyote patterns, you need to combine the first two rows. Leaving ten inches of thread that you will use for the clasp, add a stop bead to your working thread. Then, start with rows 51 and 50. With those rows combined, you string on 128 of DB167. Then add row 49 by using the peyote stitch. Pick up a bead, skip a bead, and go through the next bead. Check off completed stitches on the word map so that you will always know where you are in the pattern. Continue with the peyote stitch until the body of the bracelet is completed. To finish the bracelet with a matching clasp, start brickstitch rows on the right end by turning the piece 90 degrees and using the working thread. The added brickstitch beadwork will look exactly like the peyote stitch when you are done. - Page 3 of 9
4 Continue to follow the pattern. Once you finish one brickstitch triangle, weave over to begin the other and complete that brickstitch triangle. Weave in working thread and cut with thread burner. Using a 6mm white druk, go through the bead with your needle and thread, and tie a knot. Go through the bead four more times to put five threads on the outside of the white bead. Knot the working thread to the tail. Brickstitch a line of each color on the outside of the white bead, anchoring the brickstitch on the thread outside of the druk. Put a line of blue Delicas on one thread, a line of yellow Delicas on the next thread, a line of red on the next thread, a line of gray on the fourth thread, and finally, brickstitch a line of green Delicas to the last thread. Connect the last green Delica to the gray Delica at the top of the bead to secure the two lines of beads at the bead hole. Continue to work around the top to connect the lines of beads. Then sew through the druk and do the same at the bottom of the bead. Sew back through the druk and through the end bead of the triangle. Sew through the druk and one of the end beads at the top of the beaded druk, and back down through the druk. Follow the thread path again two more times to strengthen the attachment of the beaded bead to the triangle. Create another beaded bead. Use this second beaded bead as another button, sewing it to the second point of the brickstitch triangle on the right side. On the left side, add 27 blue beads between the 5 and 6 th beads from each edge to make a loop. Adjust size of loop if necessary by adding or removing a bead. Be sure loop will go around the beaded bead, but is not too loose. Instead of using beaded beads and a toggled clasp, lengthen each side with brickstitch and add a silver bar clasp. Another way to finish the bracelet would be to use two lobster clasps and attach them to jump rings secured in the beadwork with matching 8/0 beads worked into the final row of beadwork. Another idea: sew the body of the pattern onto leather, add fringe to the bottom and hang on silver chain to make a necklace. Or, create a wall hanging. - Page 9 of 9
