Calavera is the Spanish word for the sugar confections used during the hallowed festivities, thus the sugar skull. Peyote, backstitching, and clumping are the primary techniques students will use. This cute little owl can either be a pendant or the focal piece of a bracelet. This project is a beautiful embroidered cuff bracelet that would have made Van Gogh put down the brush and pick up the BEADS! Bring a piece of the museum to your wrist. This piece is made by bezeling around several cabochons and focal pieces, as well as free-form embroidery. INTRO TO WARM GLASS FUSING Create your own piece of art glass! Participants will learn to use tools to cut and layer glass, about different types, and the effect of heat on glass. Opalescent and translucent Bullseye glass, as well as glass components including stringers, frit, dichro, wavy fire sticks, and confetti will be available. Projects include jewelry, plates, and bowls. All work will be fired in the instructor s kilns and will be returned to SBS for pick up the following week. Add working with fiber paper to your glass-skills repertoire! Use thick fiber paper to create a three-dimensional opening on a piece of flat glass. In addition, kiln carving will be demonstrated. All work will be fired in the instructor s kiln and returned to SBS for pick up the following week. The focus will be on creating jewelry, ornaments, holiday gifts, etc. Building on previous skills, students will be able to experiment with new components as well as learn new ways to manipulate the glass components they are already familiar with. Bring you favorite stamps and learn how to stamp mica designs onto glass. (Large, solid-surface designs work best.) 9 Page9 POLYMER CLAY Bring a glass or smooth glazed work surface at least x inches, and a box to take your products home. If you have the following, then bring them: pasta machine, a clay blade, and acrylic roller. For 9/6 class bring leaves that are well textured on the underside. LAYERED LEAVES Make beautifully natural layered patterns using real leaves and mica powders. No experience needed!
