Introdution The purpose of this mnul is to instrut the instller on the proper instlltion proedure for the E-Plex 5x63, 5x64, 5x68 nd 5x69 1" Amerin Steel Mortise (ASM) Mortise loks. These instrutions pertin to models with nd without dedolts. For models without dedolts, plese disregrd ny referenes to thumturn in the instrutions. OPERATIONAL NOTE: The E-Plex Mortise lok is lmost identil to the E-Plex 5000 Cylindril lok with the following exeptions: 1. Opertion of the Lever When the lok s hnding is properly set, only downwrd rottion of lever will tute lth. 2. Key Override Use The key override differs in tht rotting the key does not tute the lth. To use the key override the key must e inserted into the ylinder nd rotted ounter lokwise until it stops (pproximtely 90 degrees) then while holding the key in this position with one hnd use the other hnd to rotte the lever downwrd to retrt the lth. One the lever hs rotted few degrees the key my e relesed. MORTISE HANDING The 1" Mortise is not field reversile. You must hve the pproprite model for the door hnding of the instlltion. 4 B. DOOR PREPARATION If using the instlltion jig to prepre the door, refer to the instrutions provided with the jig, then proeed with step 7. B-1 Mrk the hndle height on the edge of the door, s determined diretly from the strike. The xis of rottion of the hndle is level with the ottom lip of the strike. B-2 Align the templte long the vertil enter line of the mortise (CL) t the desired hndle height, nd tpe it to the door. Mortise B-3 Mrk ll holes nd utouts for the mortise in the edge of the door nd remove the templte. B-4 Lote the two sets of vertil fold lines on the templte llowing you to djust the positioning of the templte depending on the evel of the door. Note: Fold lines on templte re for 1 3 8" door. Some thikness nd evel onditions my mke it neessry to re-position the templte for mrking eh side of the door. B-5 If the door hs no evel, fold the templte long the solid lines. Align the fold with the edge of the door nd mrk the holes for the lok. RH/LHR (ASM shown) LH/RHR Repet on the other side of the door. If the door hs 3 evel, fold nd lign the dshed line mrked H on the templte with the higher-eveled edge of the door nd mrk the lok holes on tht side of the door. Repet on the side with the lower-eveled edge using the dshed line mrked L. 6 Lever Centerline= Bottom Edge of Strike lip 1 1 4" ( C L ) Door B-6 Prepre the utout for the mortise in the edge of the door using mortising mhine, router nd hisel (for dimensions, refer to templte). Ensure lerne is provided for moving lth prts s indited on the templte. B-7 When mking holes, drill from oth sides of the door to prevent unsightly dmge (for dimensions, refer to templte). Drill the smll holes efore the lrge holes. This will keep smll holes on lotion efore the 2 1 8" holes re mde tngent with them. B-8 Chek the evel of the mortise feplte. If djustment is R Q required, loosen the two evel P srews (R) nd djust mortise front plte ngle to mth the evel of the door. Logo B-9 Re-tighten srews. B-10 Instll the mortise with two 1" Phillips srews (Q) provided. R B-11 Instll mortise feplte (P) with the two 8-32 x 1 4" srews provided. C. INSTALLING THE STRIKE C-1 Align the pper templte on the door frme to mth with the desired hndle height, nd long the vertil enter line of the mortise (CL), whih is lso the enter line of the door, llowing for ny umpers on the door frme. Respet pplile uilding odes regrding hndle height. ( C L ) C-2 Selet the strike for the desired hnding, ording to the depition on the templte. Mrk the lotion of the strike utout nd mounting srews. 5 C-3 Drill pilot holes for the strike mounting srews. Mortise the door frme for the strike dimensions shown " (L) X 1" (D) X 1" (W) Note: Mke ertin not to mortise over srew holes drilled erlier. C-4 Position the strike ginst the door frme nd lign it with the mounting srew holes. Then mrk the outline of the strike. C-5 Remove ny mteril from within the strike outline () so tht the strike will e flush with the door frme. C-6 Instll the strike using the srews provided. D. INSTALLING OUTSIDE UNIT ASSEMBLY Note: Ensure tht the mounting hole for the red ollrs is lened out so tht the ollrs re not F rushed upon instlltion. If neessry, the hole n e opened up to 5 16". D-1 For door thikness of 1 3 8", insert the squre G spindle (G) into the outside housing hu. D-2 If your lok omes with thumturn, insert the end (with the ring groove) of the thumturn spindle (F) into the smll spindle hole in the outside housing. D-3 Ple the outside housing on the door so tht the ottom spindle engges the hu on the mortise, nd the top thumturn spindle psses through the mortise top hu. The outside unit ssemly () will rest flush ginst the door. Ensure the red ollr is seted into the top left mounting hole E. INSTALLING INSIDE UNIT ASSEMBLY E-1 Ple inside mounting plte flush ginst the door s shown. For door thiknesses of 1 3 8" insert digonlly (s shown) two 1 1 2" Phillips flt hed srews (supplied in prts door kit). Note: The srews must orrespond to the two through holes in the mortise. E-2 Insert the squre spindle (G) into the inside housing hu. E-3 Put the thumturn (T), if pplile in vertil position nd ple the inside trim ssemly on the door so tht the upper spindle (F) engges the thumturn nd mortise hus, respetively. Ensure the red ollr is seted into its mounting hole. Crefully push the inside housing flush ginst the door. E-4 Supplied hrdwre should orrespond to the hrt elow: Door LetroBolt Top Mounting Lower Thikness Size Srew Size Mounting Srews 1 3 8" 2 3 8" 2 1 2" 5 8" (35 mm) (60 mm) (64 mm) (16 mm) E-5 Insert the LetroBolt through the red inside Letroolt housing hole mrked with the lightening olt symol. For now, only prtilly tighten the LetroBolt to keep the red ollrs in position. E-6 Then, insert nd tighten the other three mounting srews. (Refer to the hrt for orret srew lengths.) E-7 Finish tightening the LetroBolt to seure the lok on the door. Wrning: If using power drill, plese e reful not to over-tighten s this ould use dmge to the mounting srews nd threds. F. INSTALLING THE INSIDE LEVER Insert the inside lever (A) onto the inside unit ssemly. Seure the inside lever with the hex srew (B) (supplied) using the llen wrenh (C) (supplied). 8 G. CHANGING KEY-IN-LEVER CYLINDER On key-in-lever models of the E-Plex 5000 series, the outside lever omes pressemled with K s key-in-lever ylinder (K 1599). To use different key-in-lever ylinder follow remining steps in this setion. G-1 To remove KIL (key-in-lever) ylinder () from the outside lever (). Remove the ylinder insert (e) d nd the ylinder retiner () using smll flt lded srewdriver or smll needle nose pliers. e G-2 Determine the proper tilpiee (d) from the f hrt elow for your KIL ylinder. You must use K tilpiee. The K 2 tilpiee is pressemled with the K K1 K2 K3 TAILPIECE Aloy 5277, Aloy 5477, Ass 65691, K 1539, K Gemini 4730 Ass 65611, Austrlin: K expert 107K5 & Boyd KC286, Corin-Russwin , K 1599, Shlge , Shlge Primus , K Peks 1099 Medeo 20W200H1 KIL CYLINDER H. INSTALLING / REMOVING OUTSIDE LEVER (Key-In-Lever models only) H-1 Mke ertin the lever th is up s shown (). To suessfully instll the outside lever, the lever sleeve (f) t must e positioned orretly with the respetive noth on the lever. The lok omes shipped with the lever sleeve lredy instlled in the lok housing. When f instlling lever, ensure it is oriented to engge the lever sleeve to ommodte desired lok hnding s shown. H-2 Insert one of the supplied keys () into the outside lever () nd rotte key ounterlokwise 45 degrees. H-3 Insert the outside lever () until it is flush to the outside unit ssemly (g). Seure the outside lever y rotting the key () lokwise 45 degrees to horizontl position. Remove key. Note: To remove the outside lever from the outside unit ssemly, follow the step elow. H-4 Insert one of the supplied keys () into the outside lever nd rotte it ounterlokwise 45 degrees. Insert relese tool (d) into the smll hole (e) under lever s shown. Gently push lever th up until it liks. Remove tool, then remove outside lever (). Corret Position 45º KIL Lever Sleeve LH Inorret Position RH g g K4 K5 Arrow C100, Srgent 10 LINE Mrks G-3 Assemle the required tilpiee (d) (from ove) with your KIL ylinder. All tilpiees must e d instlled vertilly (with key removed from ylinder) for proper instlltion. e G-4 Insert the KIL ylinder () into the outside lever nd seure it with the ylinder retiner () nd the ylinder insert (e) until the KIL ylinder is snug nd unle to move freely. I. INSTALLING / REMOVING OUTSIDE LEVER (Interhngele / Removle Core Models) I-1 Mke ertin the lever th is up s shown (). To suessfully instll the outside lever, the lever sleeve (f) t must e positioned orretly with the respetive noth on the lever. The lok omes shipped with the lever sleeve lredy instlled in the lok housing. When instlling lever, ensure it is oriented to engge the lever sleeve to ommodte desired lok hnding s shown. f Note: For ll interhngele/removle ylinders exept ASSA/Medeo/Yle, proeed to setion I-2. 9 I-2 Insert the outside lever () until it is flush to the outside unit ssemly (). To seure the outside lever, insert the relese tool (d) (or srewdriver) into the outside lever s shown, nd slide the lever th down until it liks. Mke ertin lever is tthed efore instlling the ore. I-3 Insert the supplied tilpiee (e) vertilly into the outside lever s shown. Mke ertin tht you rotte the tilpiee so tht it will lign with the d interhngele ore. For srew p type ylinders (Shlge) (g), the tilpiee must e ssemled to the ylinder first s shown (vertil position). Insert the interhngele ore into the outside lever. Note: To remove the outside lever from the outside unit ssemly, follow steps elow. I-4 Remove the interhngele ore (g). Then remove the tilpiee (e). I-5 For ASSA/Medeo/Yle interhngele/removle e ylinders, the tilpiee must e prepped for the desired length efore instlltion. When using Yle ylinder on ylindril lth d pplition, mesure the door thikness of the intended pplition. I-6 Notie the sore mrks on the flt portion of the ASSA/Medeo/Yle tilpiee. Using the digrm to the right, lote the sore mrk on your tilpiee tht mthes your ylinder prep for the intended pplition, nd rek the tilpiee off ordingly. I-7 g Using 2 pirs of pliers, rek the tilpiee to the desired length of the intended pplition y holding 1 pir of pliers on the good vertil side of the sore mrk nd one pir on the other side of the sore mrk. Slowly move the 2nd pir of pliers up nd down until the unneeded portion of the tilpiee reks free. I-8 Insert the Medeo tilpiee (e) vertilly into the outside f lever s shown. Mke ertin tht you rotte the tilpiee slightly so tht it will lign with the interhngele/removle ylinder. Insert the interhngele/removle d ylinder into the outside lever. Note: To remove the outside lever from the outside unit ssemly, follow steps elow. I-9 Remove the interhngele/removle ylinder. Then remove the tilpiee (e). Note: You my wnt to use needle nose pliers for some tilpiees. I-10 Insert the lever relese tool (d) into the smll hole (f) under lever s shown. Gently push lever th up until it liks. Remove tool, then remove outside lever (). Note: You my wnt to use needle nose pliers for some tilpiees. Insert the relese tool (d) into the smll hole (f) under the lever s shown. Gently push lever th up until it liks. Remove tool, then remove the outside lever (). Note: Do not shut door until instlling tteries nd testing opertion s outlined in the following two setions. J. INSTALLING THE BATTERY PACK AND COVER/CHANGING BATTERIES J-1 To instll the ttery pk (f) nd over (g), snp the le onnetor onto the top of the loded ttery f pk. Then ple the ttery pk g into the over, terminls t the top. h Put the two seurity srews (h) into the over nd fsten the over to the inside housing with the seurity srew tool (i). Cution: Over-tightening these srews ould strip i the threds in the housing or rk the over. Wrning: If the lok goes without power for more thn two minutes, you will lose the lok s urrent dte nd time only. If this hppens, progrm the lok with the orret dte nd time. Refer to Opertions Mnul. J-2 Remove the two srews (h) seuring the ttery over to the housing, using the seurity srew tool (i) provided with your lok. J-3 Remove the four depleted tteries nd instll four new Alkline only AA tteries. Ensure tht eh ttery is instlled in the proper diretion s shown t eh ttery lotion in the ttery holder (f). Wrning: Do not instll 9V ttery. Your lok opertes on 4 lkline only AA tteries (6V). A 9V will ruin the eletronis in the lok, nd void your wrrnty! J-4 Reonnet the ttery le. Ple the ttery holder into the over. Srew the k over onto the inside housing, ensuring tht the le is not trpped under the edge of the over. Cution: Over-tightening these srews ould strip the threds in the housing or rk the over

10 K. TESTING THE OPERATION OF THE LOCK K-1 Rotte inside lever nd hold. Ensure tht the mortise lth is fully retrted nd flush with the mortise feplte. Relese the inside lever; the lth should e fully extended. K-2 Enter the ftory-set omintion: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8. You should see green light nd her high-pithed tone s you push eh utton. When the lok opens you will riefly her the sound of n eletri motor. If 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 does not seem to work, plese follow the steps to perform hrd reset y following the proedure in setion L. K-3 Rotte outside lever nd hold. Ensure tht the lth is fully retrted nd flush with the lth feplte. Relese the outside lever; the lth should e fully extended. When the lok re-loks, you will gin her the motor. K-4 Insert key into the outside lever. Rotte key ounterlokwise to stop position nd hold. Ensure tht the lth is fully retrted nd flush with the lth feplte. Rotte the key lokwise to the horizontl position nd remove the key. The lth should e fully extended. K-5 To test the dedolt funtion (where pplile), turn the thumturn kno to extend the dedolt. A red light should flsh one. Then, turn the thumturn gin nd verify tht the dedolt is retrted nd there is flsh of the green light. Note: Refer to the Operting Mnul to set up lok opertion. L. RESET FUNCTION Wrning: When the lok is reset, ll existing uthoriztion nd ess odes re deleted, nd the lok is onfigured to the ftory defult lok settings. The mster ode eomes 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8. If the Mster Code is lost or forgotten nd the numer hs not een reorded, the lok n e reset to the ftory defults y following this proedure: 1) Insert key, turn to Open position nd hold. 2) Within five seonds, push # utton on lok nd then relese the key. 3) Red nd green lights should egin flshing. 4) Input 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,# t lok within 10 seonds. 5) You should her the sound of lok resetting nd high-pith tone. 6) Green light flshes. Lok is set to ftory mode. Note: For seurity resons, ll existing udit events re not deleted. The lok is now set to the ftory-onfigured setup with the defult ftory mster ode, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8. Importnt: Before you n progrm the lok, you must first enter new 8-digit mster ode of your hoie. For exmple, if your new ode is 1,2,,7,2,4,6,8, the orret uttons to press in the ext order re: #1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,#,0,0,0,#,1,3,5,7,2,4,6,8,#,#. To determine if you hve suessfully hnged your mster ode, enter 1,3,5,7,2,4,6,8, nd the lok should open. Now try the ftory mster ode, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 nd the lok should not open. Refer to the inluded Opertions Mnul for further progrmming instrutions. M. INSTALLING RUBBER BUMPERS M-1 Close the door nd pply pressure mking sure the dedlth () rests on the strike plte () s shown. Stnding on the frme (door step) side of the door, hek for gps etween the door nd the frme on the three sides of the frme (left, right nd top). M-2 Mrk lotions where the gps re pproximtely 3 16" (5 mm). Mke sure these lotions re free from grese nd dust. Peel the umpers () (supplied) from their protetive king without touhing the dhesive surfe nd stik them on the mrked lotions. Note: Allow 24 hours for umper dhesive to set efore testing.
