4 A. DOOR PREPARATION A-1 Ple pper templte (supplie) onto oor n mrk for holes. Drill the four 1 4" (7 mm) holes first. Next rill the 2 1 8" (54 mm) ross ore hole. Drill the 1" (25 mm) hole lst. A-2 For Moels 504x & 505x only. When instlling Moel 502x, skip to step A-4. Pssge feture moels require n itionl 1 (25 mm) hole in the oor fe (see in the illustrtion to the right). LOCK HANDING The Simplex 5000 is non-hne lok tht is pressemle for left-hn oor instlltions. B-1 Determine the hn of your oor. For left hn oors, proee to Setion C. For right hn oors, follow steps in B-2. 5 B-2 Remove the two onneting srews () from the ylinril rive unit (). Rotte ylinril rive unit 180 egrees. Reposition sper () s foun efore isssemly. Remount rive unit with the two onneting srews. C. DOOR THICKNESS The Simplex 5000 lok is pressemle to ommote stnr oor thikness 1 5 8" (41 mm) to 2" (51 mm). C-1 (Referene Figure A) For thinner oor pplitions of 1 3 8" (35 mm) to 1 1 2" (38 mm) Remove n isr the two onneting srews () from the ylinril rive unit (). Remove n isr the sper (). Remount the ylinril rive unit using the two shorter 1 3 8" (35 mm) onneting srews supplie. C-2 (Referene Figure B) For thiker oor pplitions of 2 1 8" (54mm) to 2 1 4" (57mm) Remove the two onneting srews () from theylinril rive unit (). A the extr sper() supplie. Remount the ylinril rive unitusing the sme two onneting srews () just remove. (Do not over tighten srews) D. INSTALLING THE PASSAGE SET For moels 504x & 505x only. When instlling non-pssge moels, skip to setion E. Note: The en user my hoose either key yliner () or turn kno () tutor to engge the pssge funtion. D-1 Prior to instlling the pssge tutor, hol the hosen tutor housing in one hn, n with the other hn, rotte the key yliner or kno ounterlokwise until it stops. If the key yliner tutor is use, withrw the key, whih will lok the yliner in this position ( etent in the turn kno loks the yliner). D-2 Insert the key yliner or turn kno ssemly ( or ) into the opening on the insie unit ssemly (). Upon ompletion, the rrow of the turn kno shoul e pointing to the left, or the ot on the fe of the key yliner tutor shoul e on the left. D-3 Seure the pssge set ssemly with the spring lip () from the insie. 5

6 D-4 Rotte the kno or key yliner (re-insert key t this point) lokwise to test the rottion. If properly instlle, the kno or key yliner shoul rotte 90 egrees lokwise so tht the rrow (kno) is pointing up or the ot (key yliner) is t the top. Note: Leve the tutor set in this position for instlltion (if key yliner is use, remove the key t this point). Note: The tilpiee of the pssge tutor is sore on severl ples to llow you to esily rek off the setion tht extens eyon the require length to engge the pssge set m. D-5 Hol the tilpiee firmly with pir of pliers, jent to the esire rek line. With seon pir of pliers, grip the tilpiee on the other sie of the sore line n en up n own until it reks. E. INSTALLING OUTSIDE UNIT ASSEMBLY Note: Instlling levers/knos to the unit ssemlies efore mounting the unit ssemlies my ese initil instlltion. E-1 For moels 504x & 505x only. When instlling nonpssge moels, skip to step E-2. Ensure tht the pssge m () is rotte ounterlokwise until it stops. When omplete, the slot will e vertil. For thiker oor 2 1 8" (54 mm) to 2 1 4" (57 mm), seure the outsie n insie unit ssemlies to the oor y using four 3 1 4" (82mm) srews (f) (supplie) in ll four holes s inite. G. INSTALLING THE INSIDE LEVER/KNOB Note: Instlling the lever/kno ssemlies to the unit efore mounting the unit ssemlies, my ese initil instlltion. G-1 Insert the insie lever/kno () onto the unit ssemly. Seure the insie lever/kno with the 3 8" (5mm) hex srew () supplie using the llen wrenh () supplie. H. CHANGING KEY-IN-LEVER/KNOB CYLINDER The Simplex 5000 outsie lever/kno omes pressemle with K's key-in-lever/kno yliner (K 1599). To use ifferent key-in-lever/ kno yliner, follow the remining steps in this setion. H-1 Remove KIL/KIK yliner () from the outsie lever/kno () y removing the lever insert (e) (no insert on kno). Remove the ruer yliner retiner () using smll srewriver or neele nose pliers. 7

H-4 Insert the KIL/KIK yliner () into the outsie lever/kno () n seure it with the yliner retiner () n lever insert (e) (no insert on the kno). I-2 Insert one of the supplie keys () into the outsie lever/kno () n rotte key ounterlokwise 45 egrees. I-3 Insert the outsie lever/kno () until it is flush to the outsie unit ssemly (levers fit loser thn knos). Seure the outsie lever/kno y rotting the key 45º lokwise 45 egrees to the horizontl position. Remove key. Note: To remove the outsie lever/kno from the outsie unit ssemly, follow steps elow. I-4 Insert one of the supplie keys () into the outsie lever/kno n rotte it ounterlokwise 45 egrees. Insert the relese tool () into the smll hole (e) uner the lever/kno s shown. Gently push the lever th up until it liks. 45º Remove tool, then remove the outsie lever/kno. e e J. Then remove the tilpiee (e). Note: You my wnt to use neele nose pliers for some tilpiees. J-9 Insert the lever relese tool () into the smll hole (f) uner lever/kno s shown. Gently push lever th up until it liks. Remove tool, then remove outsie lever/ kno (). K. TESTING THE OPERATION OF THE LOCK K-1 Rotte insie lever/kno n hol. Ensure tht the lth is fully retrte n flush with the lth feplte. Relese the insie lever/kno; the lth shoul e fully extene. K-2 For Moels 504x & 505x only. When instlling non-pssge moels, skip to step K-4. Ensure tht the key yliner or kno of the pssge tutor is set so tht the rrow or ot is t the top. Rotte outsie lever/kno n hol. Ensure tht the lth is fully retrte n flush with the lth feplte. Relese outsie lever/kno: the lth shoul e fully extene. K-3 Rotte pssge tutor ounterlokwise so tht the rrow or ot is to the left. Then rotte outsie lever/kno. The lth shoul not move. K-4 Enter the ftory-set omintion: Depress uttons 2 n 4 t the sme time (& relese), then epress utton 3 (& relese), then epress the ENTER utton (& relese). You shoul feel slight lik s eh utton is epresse. K-5 Rotte outsie lever/kno n hol. Ensure tht the lth is fully retrte n flush with the lth feplte. Relese the outsie lever/kno; the lth shoul e fully extene. Press the ENTER utton n relese, then rotte outsie lever/kno. The lth shoul NOT retrt. K-6 Insert one of the (supplie) keys into the outsie lever/kno. Rotte key ounterlokwise to stop position n hol. Ensure tht the lth is fully retrte n flush with the lth feplte. 16 L. INSTALLING THE STRIKE Note: The lth n strike provie must e use. L-1 Mrk lotion of strike on the oor frme, mking ertin tht the strike opening is ligne () with the lth olt. L-2 Mortise oorfrme for strike 3 32" (3 mm) eep minimum to imensions shown. Seure strike () to the oor frme using two 1" (25 mm) omintion srews () (supplie) " (31mm) 3 3 8" (84mm) 4 7 8" (124mm) M. CHANGING COMBINATIONS Note: The ftory set omintion of your new 5000 series: Press 2 n 4 t the sme time, then relese. Press 3, then relese. Press the ENTER utton, then relese. For your seurity, the ftory set omintion MUST BE hnge when lok is instlle. The omintion n e esily hnge using one to five of the lok s uttons in ny orer in the omintion. Eh utton n only e use one. Note: Three or more non-sequentil utton omintions re reommene for higher seurity. Also, two or more uttons my e pushe together (t the sme time) s prt of your new omintion. CAUTION: The oor MUST BE open uring this entire proeure. Note: The omintion hnge n e one without removing lok from oor. Ensure tht the oor is open uring this proeure. Rotte the outsie lever/kno () one to stop position n relese to reset the lok the lth shoul not retrt. M-1 Press the existing omintion () followe y the ENTER utton () n relese; o not turn the lever/kno. Note: Determine if you hve n interior/exterior oe hnge, n follow pproprite proeure elow. Exterior Comintion Chnge M-2 Insert the relese tool () through hole in numer p n gently lift up loop en of the tool to epress the oe hnge utton until e you her lik; remove tool n o not press ny uttons (proee to M-4). 16

17 Interior Comintion Chnge M-3 Unsrew speil torx srew from insie housing using supplie torx wrenh. Enter your existing omintion, n epress n relese the ENTER utton. Insert longer en of the sme torx wrenh through the opening until it engges with the mting prt. Turn wrenh ounterlokwise (using miniml fore) pproximtely 90 egrees, until it liks. Return wrenh to initil position. Remove wrenh n reple torx srew. M-4 **This Step Is Very Importnt** Rotte lever/ kno () one, n only one to ler the ol omintion; the lth (e) will retrt; relese the lever/kno. M-5 Press in your new omintion () followe y the ENTER utton () n relese. M-6 Rotte the lever/kno () to verify tht the lth (e) retrts onfirming the vliity of the new omintion (if you try the ol omintion now, it shoul not work). IMPORTANT: The ENTER utton must e epresse n relese fter entering the omintion. The lth will not retrt until the ENTER utton is epresse n relese. 18 N. INSTALLING RUBBER BUMPERS N-1 Close the oor n pply pressure mking sure the elth () rests on the strike plte () s shown. Stning on the frme (oor stop) sie of the oor, hek for gps etween the oor n the frme on the three sies of the frme (left, right, n top). N-2 Mrk lotions where the gps re pproximtely 3 16" (5 mm). Mke sure these lotions re free from grese n ust. Peel the umpers () (supplie) from their protetive king without touhing the hesive surfe n stik them on the mrke lotions. Note: Allow 24 hours for hesive to set efore testing. The oor my e operte normlly uring this time. O. HOW TO RESET A LOST OR UNKNOWN COMBINATION Corret Inorret There is no wy to etermine forgotten, unknown or lost omintion from the front or outsie of the lok. However, it n e reset n reovere or reset n hnge to new omintion y following the steps in this setion. Wrning: Sine this proeure is of tehnil nture, only tehnilly trine personnel in the lok n hrwre fiel shoul unertke this opertion. Remove the omintion hmer ssemly () from the se plte y removing the 2 Phillips srews (). e Remove the 3-sie ust over () to fully expose the hmer y removing 2 smll Phillips srews (e). 19 O-3 Resetting n Reovery of Current Comintion To reset the oe gers (), eh one of the 5 L shpe legs () of the unloking slie () must engge snugly with the orresponing oe ger poket () next to it. i e Position the hmer in one hn, s shown. Hol hmer y the top srew t (e) n ottom srew t (f). h Rotte the reset m (g) k towr you f g j with your finger, towrs the key stems (h) s fr s it will go n then relese. Now look t the oe gers () n the unloking slie (). Note tht some or ll 5 of the oe ger pokets () re rotte wy from the L shpe legs () s if out of lignment. Using smll flt le srew river or your thumnil, epress the key stem whih orrespons to the ger poket whih hs een rotte the frthest wy (out of lignment) from the L shpe leg. When epresse, the key stem(s) shoul sty own n the orresponing ger poket(s) shoul move loser to its orresponing L leg, loser to lignment. Reor the key stem numer. This is the first numer of your omintion. Note: If two ger pokets re t the sme istne, epress oth of these orresponing key stems t the sme time. Continue y pressing the key stem tht orrespons to the ger poket tht ws the next furthest wy (o not inlue ger pokets tht hve lrey een rotte). Reor eh key stem numer tht is epresse. Continue this proeure until ll five ger pokets re ligne with their orresponing L shpe legs on the unloking slie. The omintion is the reore numers, in the orer reore. Note: If you epress the wrong key stem y mistke, rotte the reset m k towr you, (towr the key stems n relese). This resets the oe gers n you must repet the ove proeure, O-3. j 19

20 O-4 Clering the Current Comintion n Setting New Comintion Note: Align the oe ger pokets with the L shpe legs. Depress the omintion hnge utton (i) lote on top e i of the omintion hmer n relese. Rotte the reset m k towr you with your finger h (towr the key stems) s fr s it will go n relese. Enter your new omintion y epressing the key stem orresponing to the first numer (1 through 5) of your omintion. For exmple, if the new omintion is 3-2-5, g then you woul epress 3 first, then 2 n finlly 5. Reor j this new omintion for future referene. f Push the shouler (j) t the ottom of the Unloking slie up towr the omintion hnge utton n relese. If eh of the 5 L shpe legs of the unloking slie engges snugly insie its orresponing oe ger poket, then it onfirms tht the new omintion hs een suessfully hnge. Rotte the reset m (g) k towr you n relese. Note: If ll 5 L shpe legs o not lign fully with their orresponing oe ger pokets, repet the proeures O-3 n O-4. O-5 Reinstlling hmer ssemly into lok n retesting Reinstll the 3-sie ust over over the omintion hmer with the 2 smll Phillips srews remove. (My e 1 srew in newer moels) Reinstll the omintion hmer ssemly to the se plte with the 2 Phillips srews remove. Reinstll the se plte on to the outsie lok ssemly with the 2 Phillips srews remove. Mke sure ll prts hve een reinstlle orretly. O-6 Reinstll lok on oor y following the proeures in Setions E n F of this mnul. O-7 Retest new omintion with lok on oor y entering the new numers followe y the ENTER utton n rotting the outsie lever/kno. Follow the proeure for Chnging Comintions (Setion M) exept omit steps 1 n 2 (o not enter the existing omintion). 2. Using the tool, gently push lever th up until it liks. Refer to Setion I or J (Instlling n Removing the Outsie Lever/Kno). 4. Corret omintion is epresse, ut the lth oes not retrt.
