Come for a great meal, super silent auction items, and lots of visiting and sharing. Only $10 wine and hot/cold beverages provided (by the club). Presidents Message, Greetings all. The percussive clacking, pinging and thumping of acorns hitting our roof and outdoor furniture, the cicada s strumming call and, the sun s shifting light remind me that summer is moving on. I m cued to prime the rakes for duty and to make my fall to do list. That list includes hanging the CentraCare Health Plaza exhibit, taking down the Paramount exhibit and readying for the CMW annual dinner meeting. The River s Edge Convention Center, Whitney Sr. Center and, Waite Park Library shows are next. Our monthly meetings commence again at the Paramount Visual Arts Center after our annual Dinner meeting at the Watab Township Hall.. Whoa! The State Fair isn t even over yet. Sandra Driscoll and Kathy Braud have paintings there. Some of our members who paint Mondays at Silver Brushes just hung their work in a show at the Whitney Center. Our members are displaying and winning awards: the North Star Watermedia Society announced that Anita Hendrickx s painting, Koi, was accepted in the 1 st Annual National January 2014 ONLINE Find Central Minnesota Watercolorists news and more at and on Facebook at Central MN Watercolorists

2 Juried Exhibition. Kathy Braud won the North Star Best Watermedia Award at the State Fair for her painting, Four Clucks. Dan Mondloch continues to share and expand his plein air expertise. He will participate in the Plein Air Grand Marais competition September plus the Paramount Studio C Exhibit starting Oct. 23rd. Whoa, again! An acorn just crashed near me reminding me that I must review the August CMW activities before I move on. The St Cloud Library Exhibit was taken down the 15 th. Marilyn Clement, Jan Tonsfeldt, Naomi Diedecker, Sharon Nieters, and Kathy Braud set up booths at the Paramount Granite Lounge and lobby for our annual show and sale held in conjunction with the Sizzlin Summer Art Crawl August 14. Kathy Braud and Jan Loebel demonstrated. Bonnie and Sandra Driscoll shared a booth at Bloom Salon and Dan Mondloch joined the Artists Guild show at the Paramount Gallery St. Germain in the Nunc cursus magna quis Regency 912 Plaza. 17 folks gathered at Watab Town Hall August 22 for the Batik with Watercolor workshop by Carol Spohn. We watched, practiced, produced and socialized. We enjoyed her demonstrations using indelible ink, watercolor paints and wax resist on Genwashi rice paper. At the last we were awed as she showed us how to use Dharma dyes on silks creating spontaneous designs. Thank you Paramount staff, Jan Loebel, Kathy Braud, Sandra Driscoll, and Marilyn and Dave Clement, Robyn York, Bonnie and Tom Schwichtenberg for your help with the Art Crawl. Thanks Linda Addicott, for coordinating the Spohn workshop and to Pat Spence and Carol Eurle for helping set up. CMW continues to offer quality artwork, instruction and camaraderie. We are proud of all of you who contribute to and attend ours and other artful events around Minnesota. 4 TRY SOMETHING NEW Gordon and Yvonne Schrank studied with Susan Voigt in Minneapolis to learn how to work with Sennelier indelible inks with Aqua- based acrylics. The two materials repel each other allowing you to make VIVID abstract pieces. It sounds like a very good future demo to me. Here are a few of their paintings. Kerry Kupferschmidt will give us a demonstration of how he finishes Architectural renderings to make them look artistic and welcoming for the perspective owners. He will show us how he selects colors for exteriors, plant masterial, trees, and shies. His paintings present the future home in a warm inviting presentation. Bring an original card you paint yourself to exchange with a member. We put them in a basket and draw another out. At the end we all open and share. Bring a special treat to share. Congratulations!!! Anita s painting Koi is one of 60 pieces selected by Juror Jack Richeson for the First annual National Juried Exhibition for the NorthStar Watermedia Society. These will be displayed at the Hopkins Center for the Arts from Sept. 13- Oct. 18thThe public is invited to an artists reception Sept 13 from 3-4 pm. Over $6500 in prizes will be awarded. 6 Carol Spohn Workshop 17 eager painters participated in the one- day workshop of watercolor batik. Carol also included instruction in inks. This was a very well received day of instruction. 7 COLORFUL PAINTING TIPS DIPTYCH, TRIPTYCH, TETRATYCH WHAT THE HECK ARE THEY? What is a triptych, a diptych, a tetratych? In the art world, it is the term for a way to create a picture that is divided into several parts. This can be subjects that ate related like separate turtles or a scene that is long and cut into several parts or a subject that has a cause and effect like a person kicking a ball and another person catching it. They can be hung vertically or horizontally. These kinds of presentations create an especially interesting image in that they seem to go together and yet, each is a separate image that could stand alone. A diptych is two images often stacked vertically but can be horizontal. A triptych (3 images) is more often seen horizontally. A tetratych (4 images) is usually either horizontally or in a group of 4 in the shape of a square or rectangle like this. or Annual CMW dinner and Silent Auction, Sept. 14, 2015 We are having a wonderful dinner catered by Henry s of Foley just like we did last year.
