1 FINE ARTS PAINTING CLUB Quail Creek Fine Arts Painting Club Newsletter No. 3 February 2015 Art Explosion in Quail Creek The Fine Arts Painting Club is one of the most rapidly growing clubs in the community with membership now nearing ninety people. Applications are coming in each week. A warm welcome to our new members. Hot Topics and FAQ. Q: Membership cards are here. Are you certified? A: Cards for members are here. If you attended the member meeting in January the studio rules were reviewed. Learning these rules is required to be a certified member. If you have not received your card yet, they can be picked up from the monitor on duty during open studio (9-12 on Wednesday and Friday) or from your teacher if you are enrolled in a class. Monitors can certify members. Q: Inquiring Minds Want to Know... A: Check the website QCFAPC.wordpress.com first when you have questions. Got a question about a class? Teachers for all classes can be contacted directly. Contact info for teachers is available on the website on the Instruction page. Q: When is the next membership meeting? A: The next meeting will be held on Thursday, March 12th at 6:30 PM in the Fine Arts Room. Our speaker is visiting artist, author, and professor emeritus, Clint Brown. His topic is entitled Becoming Your Own Best Critic. Q: What volunteer opportunities exist? A: With rapid growth comes challenges. Your club needs help in the following areas: Studio monitors (once every other month), Calendars/Scheduling, Historian, publicity duties such as writing articles and announcements, and much more. See contact info at the end of the newsletter. Donations Requested Gather up the art supplies you no longer use and donate them to the club. They will be used by our teachers and members during workshops and free classes. Office supplies such as a stapler, pencil sharpener, tape, scissors, paper, etc. would also be very helpful. Art Books for the library are always welcome. Help us build a great studio space and get rid of clutter at home. 2 March Artist Spotlight Club members will have several unique opportunities to learn from Clint Brown, a master artist, teacher and author. March 10th: Plein Air painters will travel to Tohono Chul Park in Tucson. Cactus blooms and Clint s expertise will challenge students at every level to learn about concept and composition. All mediums welcome. March 12th: Clint will speak at the member meeting on Becoming Your Own Best Critic. March 15th Clint Brown will conduct a seminar entitled Drawing Conjuring Workshop for a $20 fee. Take a drawing from start to finish with an innovative approach to creativity. Artist to Artist: Inspiration and Advice from Artists Past and Present By Clint Brown A book of more than one thousand quotes from famous artists will inspire, delight and help the art club. Copies of Clint s book will be on sale for $15 with half of all proceeds going to the club. Buy your copy before they are gone! An important survey will arrive via soon. Help us plan for future classes, events, speakers and fun stuff for artists. The survey will also be posted on the website if is not an option. Your voice matters.

3 CATC Center Grand Opening Sunday, February 22nd from 11AM to 3PM will mark the official grand opening of the Creative Arts and Tech Center. All residents are invited to see what the clubs are up to, ask questions and get membership information at this open house event. Discover Quail Creek Event March 7th will bring visitors from far and wide to visit and learn all about our fabulous community. There will be a large display of member artwork in our studio. Details will be coming soon for how to get your work into this show. Yes, the work will be for sale to the public. Join your fellow club members on Wednesdays and Fridays from to work on your own projects. Visit with other painting club members, check out a book from the art library or just use the time to sketch new ideas. It is your studio free time. Enjoy it. A monitor is there to answer any questions. Bring a friend. Guests can come twice before joining the club. February membership meeting with guest speaker Lynn Maier The board would like to thank Lynn Maier for her presentation at the February member meeting. Her topic on the life and work of her father, noted Alaskan artist Jim Tapscott, was fascinating. New Board Member Please welcome Jim Asbell to the QCFAPC board. He has replaced Ric Reed as Committee Coordinator and will serve as liaison to the CATC Building Committee. Kudos to Ric for his service, and for remaining as Membership Committee Chair.
