1 Donna Jarve WATERMARKS: SEPTEMBER 2017 The Newsletter for Central Minnesota Watercolorists Greetings Members of CMW, The President s Message September 2017 I will do my best not to repeat myself, but bear with me while I review upcoming events: Thanks to you all for your enthusiastic response for more art for the Great River Arts show in October. We are planning a drop off at Watab Hall for those who find delivery distance difficult. We ll have more details soon. We would like to have photos of your paintings ed to Mary Buhl by September 25 th for the members Choice Award voting. You will also be able to vote at the Gallery if you prefer to see the art first. We are in need of Art Crawl demonstrators for November 3 rd from 5 to 9pm. We still could use two people I believe. It s a good experience and the observers are enthusiastic, especially the youth. Many are interested in learning about our organization. You can display samples of your art too. We have a couple of surveys planned as handouts at the September 11 th dinner meeting. If you have ideas for new workshop or demo artists, we are asking for your thoughts. We are also looking for input at the dinner about possible future Art Retreats. ONLINE Find Central Minnesota Watercolorists on the Web at and on Facebook at Central MN Watercolorists

2 As fall progresses, we have one additional chance to show your work at the Paramount Center lobby. The current plan is to drop off art on October 30th. We are waiting for more details from them about times, etc. The show will continue until December 4th. Kudos to artists with work accepted in the North Star Watermedia Competition. These are the watercolors that I know of: Judith Meyeraan for Primal Scream, Kathy Braud for Four Clucks and yours truly for my Reflections, Gooseberry River. If you know of others accepted let us know. I am not sure about any accepted in the State Fair. If you haven t been there yet, take a look. It is always interesting. I noticed an excellent piece by Karen Knutson and also John Salminen, among many great paintings. I hope that you all enjoy the incredible weather we ve been having of late. Our hearts go out to the people of Texas who are in the midst of one of the worst natural disasters ever with hurricane Harvey! I can t imagine what it s like to have such a huge volume of rain over a few days. It looks like FEMA is coming through for them, as well as the Coast Guard heroes. I leave you with one new quote. If you are feeling small or unimportant try this from Rembrandt: Painting is the grandchild of nature. It is related to God. Hope to see you at the September meeting. Kerry Kupferschmidt The Banner Painting Donna Jarve painted this peaceful watercolor as a wedding gift for her nephew. Her inspiration was a photo taken on Lake Kabetogama in northern Minnesota. Donna enjoys doing big washes, and this painting was the perfect opportunity to do them. She captured the beauty of the Minnesota lakes and trees that inspire us. We are also inspired by your beautiful art, Donna. Thank you to member Barbara Rogan for offering to host Karen Knutson, our demo artist for the CMW November membership meeting. Thank you to member Bonnie Schwichtenberg for donating several display panels and an X for CMW art shows.
