1 PROSPECTUS VIEWPOINT'S 2017 STUDENT EXHIBIT STREET STORIES Photographing People and Places Viewpoint Photographic Art Center invites all college and high school students of photography to submit photographs for an exhibit in the Viewpoint Step Up Gallery. This exhibit, entitled STREET STORIES, will run from May 9 through June 3, Street Photography is all about telling a story. The decisive moment was a phrase coined by Henri Cartier-Bresson, one of the earliest practitioners of street photography. The decisive moment is where everything comes together in a perfect moment, and you hit the shutter. The essence of street photography is about documenting everyday life and society on the streets. KEY POINTS ABOUT SUBMITTING FOR THIS EXHIBIT Limited to three (3) entries per student. There is no cost to enter. Each submitted image must be made by the student submitting the image. Images may represent any approaches to capturing the moment. All entrants must be currently enrolled in a college or high school, or enrolled in the Fall 2016 semester or will be enrolled in Fall There is no age restriction. Jurying of the exhibit will be based on digital image files ed to Viewpoint. Viewpoint's Curatorial Committee will select approximately 30 images for exhibition. The First, Second and Third Place winners will receive cash awards in the amount of $150, $100 and $75 respectively as well as free one-year Viewpoint memberships. Viewpoint will host an Artist Reception on Friday evening, May 12, for all exhibitors, their guests, and Viewpoint members. Refreshments will be served. 1

Submissions that are not in compliance will not be accepted. any questions about submission or exhibition requirements to the curators at dianap07@att.net. 1. Artwork submitted for STREET STORIES must be created by the student entering it. 2. All entrants to STREET STORIES must be currently enrolled high school or college students, or was enrolled in Fall 2016 or will be enrolled in Fall There is no age restriction. 3. Verify that exhibited print(s) will meet the requirements under Images Selected for Exhibition. 4. Submissions must be ed to Viewpoint between March 1 and 5 p.m. on April 8, Image files must meet the specifications given under Digital File Preparation. 6. Attach image file(s) to a single to dianap07@att.net. DO NOT insert images into the body/text of your Include the following information in your Your name, address, phone number, and address. Title of each photograph, and where it was made. Print medium/type (e.g., pigment inkjet print, gelatin silver print, etc.). The sizes (height x width) of the printed image and of the mat for example, image size: 10 h x 8 w; mat size: 16 h x 14 w; 16x20, and 20x24 inches. For other sizes, exhibit@viewpoint.org to see if Viewpoint can supply glazing. If Viewpoint does not have the required size, acrylic glazing (not glass) must be provided by the artist and delivered with the artwork. 8. Exhibition prints must be delivered to Viewpoint by 5:00 p.m. on April 29. 2
3 Digital File Preparation Make sure that each image file you submit meets these specifications. File type Color space File size File name jpg or png srgb Less than 2 MB Minimum of 1200 pixels in longer dimension your last name followed by image title For example, smith_duneshadowsdeathvalley.jpg File names should contain no capitals, spaces, or any of these special characters:! # $ % ' +, ; : = ( ) File names should contain no period other than the one before the file extension (.jpg or.png) Hyphens and underscores are okay. IMAGES SELECTED FOR EXHIBITION Viewpoint's Curatorial Committee will select photographs for exhibition from the submitted digital image files. Entrants will be notified of accepted and/or not accepted images on April 15, Photographers whose work is accepted for exhibition in STREET STORIES will be expected to meet the following requirements. 1. Provide a brief (one paragraph) statement for each accepted image. 2. Provide a completed Exhibition Print Form (found at the end of this prospectus) for each accepted image. 3. All prints on paper must be matted using white or off-white mats. Prints in colored mats, or prints mounted on corrugated board or foam core, will not be accepted. 4. Prints on metal, wood, canvas, etc. must include necessary hardware for hanging on Viewpoint walls (standard drywall). dianap07@att.net if you have questions. 5. All work for sale must meet archival standards for mounting and matting. 6. DO NOT frame your work. All work must be delivered unframed (except when the frame is an integral part of a multimedia artwork). 7. All matted prints must be delivered in a clear protective sleeve. Do not seal the sleeve. Non-matted entries, such as canvas or aluminum prints, must be submitted in protective packaging or containers designed for the work. 8. Matted prints will be displayed under acrylic glazing for protection. Viewpoint will provide acrylic glazing for matted artwork in standard sizes of 8x10, 11x14, 14x18,16x20, and 20x24. For other sizes, dianap07@att.net to see if 3
4 Viewpoint can supply glazing. If Viewpoint does not have the required size, acrylic glazing (not glass) must be provided by the artist and delivered with the artwork. 9. Exhibition prints must be delivered to Viewpoint by 5:00 pm on April 29, TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR ARTWORK EXHIBITED AT VIEWPOINT The photographer will retain copyright of the image, but agrees that any accepted image submitted to the STREET STORIES exhibit may be used for marketing and promotional purposes by Viewpoint Photographic Art Center. Artwork accepted for exhibition can be delivered in person or shipped to Viewpoint Photographic Art Center, 2015 J Street, Suite 101, Sacramento, CA When artwork is shipped to and/or from Viewpoint, the artist is responsible for the cost, care, protection, and insurance of the artwork during shipment. When an artist opts to have unsold artwork shipped from Viewpoint, the artist must provide appropriate shipping materials and a prepaid shipping label (including insurance, if desired). Prints will be shipped back within one month of the exhibition's closing date. Artwork exhibited at Viewpoint will be treated with the utmost care. Viewpoint s responsibility and liability arising from or connected with damage to the artwork regardless of any cause whatsoever is limited to the artist s commission value (60% of the specified sale price of the artwork). Artwork accepted for exhibition but not received by Viewpoint by the delivery deadline will not be exhibited. All work available for sale will be sold through the Viewpoint Online Store. The digital image submitted for entry will be used to represent the exhibited print in the Store. Make sure your digital file accurately represents the printed image. Artwork that is exhibited but is not for sale (NSF) will not be included in the Viewpoint Online Store. The artist will receive 60% of the purchase price for each print sold. A commission of 40% of the purchase price will be retained by Viewpoint. Checks for the artist's share of artwork sold will be mailed to artist within 60 days after the close of the exhibit. Unsold prints not picked up by the specified deadline of July 6, 2017, will become the property of Viewpoint Photographic Artwork. Viewpoint will have the right to use or dispose of such prints in whatever manner it chooses. 4
