We have some changes and a lot of events. Bonnie Presidents Message, By this time you will have celebrated graduations, the first day of summer and July 4 th! Fireworks abounded in my neighborhood Saturday night but generally the area around us was quiet as most folks were at the lake. Family, food, fun, snap, crackle and pop: so much stimulation! There was a contrast to the usual calm around us. Sometimes the challenges of preparations, anticipation and culminating activities can prove to be a bit jarring. On that note CMW has offered a plethora of activities and events for you to show, learn and socialize around art and watercolor this summer that have and may continue to challenge us. Watercolor master, Lian Quan Zhen, entertained and educated 25 folks in two sessions 6/15-6/18 and 6/19-6/22 at the Paramount Visual Arts Center studios 9am to 4pm and at an evening demo the 16th. His teaching style and personal photos of koi, egrets, herons and peonies inspired us all. Although we used the same models each person produced a unique piece. We were challenged to consider a limited palette, and new techniques. (See photos on Face Book, the web site and in this newsletter.) July 1 Robyn York and I met at the St. Cloud Library to greet exhibiters and Jennifer Penzkover, coordinator of the Library and River s Edge Convention Center exhibits. She showed her expertise hanging the art masterfully. People entering and leaving alike stopped to see and positively comment about the evolving display. Works reflected the theme, Food for Thought. 2 Garden show at Clemens/Munsinger Gardens in St. Cloud. The theme, Small Treasures, limits the size of the pieces and challenges us again with the natural venue, week- day event and daylight time frame. (Thanks, Kerry Kupferschmidt and his CMW team!) July 31 we will hang the annual Paramount exhibit, Luscious, to run August 1 to the first week of September (9th). There will be overlap with the Library show and the beginning of the CentraCare Health Plaza show September 1. Note there is no theme. The board is responding to concerns expressed by members regarding the limits set by themes. Themes assigned to the exhibits stemmed from our desire to inspire new works by CMW members, brew ideas and re- new creative flow. Our intention to urge new work includes new exhibit venues, providing new master teachers, and consideration of varied water media techniques. The initial discomfort that comes with discovering new techniques makes me reticent, but it also excites me to think about using a different perspective and either tightening Nunc up cursus OR loosening magna up quis a bit. As I write this I am challenged to use yupo or rice paper and find the 8 inch art boards I bought after the Linda Kemp workshop in Thanks to Bonnie Schwichtenberg for hosting Lian Zhen, coordinating supplies, and making his experience in St. Cloud positive. Thanks go out to Melissa Gohman, Bob Johnson and especially Derick Segerstrom and staff at the Paramount for helping with the details of 8 straight days of watercolor learning and sharing! Thanks go out to all of you who are attending the paint- ins, meetings, workshops, sharing watercolor art in public and private exhibits and helping with our events. Welcome to new members gained at the Zhen workshop, Carol Barrymore, Jan Brunkow, and Gail Thovson and Kristen Thielen.. We have four new members from our Lian Zhen workshop. Welcome to Gail Thovson from Hutchinson, Jan Brunknow from Nelson, Wisconsin, Carol Barrymore from St. Cloud, and Kristen Thielen from Dubuque, Iowa. We are proud to have 80 members from all over Central Minnesota.

3 The Banner Painting Due to my schedule this last 4 weeks I didn t get to ask another member so I put in my Coneflowers From my Garden. It has weaving in it, which I used to cover up a part of the background I wasn t too keen on. Another strategy from Donna Jarve, a great teacher and CMW member.

4 2015 CALENDAR JULY 16, 2015 Art in the Gardens sponsored by the Munsinger Clemens Botanical Society. Sign- up sheets are at the meetings and Paint Ins. The show title is Small Treasurers. $5 per artist for as many as you want to bring. This is a great place to start exhibiting. You DO NOT have to sell stuff. Just show it. Time for the event is 10am- 7pm. Kerry Kupferschmidt is the coordinator ( ). JULY 30, 2015 Take down date for Dr. Grabowski s office. This will make it possible for you to use a piece in the Paramount Exhibit is you want to. You mak take down at any time of t he business day. Bonnie will be there from 4-5 pm to assist you if you need it. This is the final exhibit for Dr. Grabowski until his business settles in the new space near Home Depot with new walls and very convenient parking JULY 31- SEPT 9, 2015 Paramount Exhibit. $5 per painting. You may show more that one painting. The Paramount is requesting that you donate 30% of your sale to Paramount Visual Arts. Sign- up deadline is July 27, The hang date is July 31, 2015 from 4-5 pm. Take down date is Sept. 9, 2015 from 4-5 pm. THIS IS A CHANGE FROM PREVIOUS INFORMATION. AUG. 22, 2015 Carol Spohn workshop Batik Watercolor. All Day. $40 members, $50 non members. Contack Robyn York robyncmw@gmail.com. There is ONE spot left. ANNUAL SHOW AND SALE AUG. 14, Paramount Visual Arts Center Granite Lounge 3-9pm. This is where you can have a booth or table to display all your work. We are very lucky to have secured this space. It is upstairs, in the glass lobby of the ticket sales area. We will likely also have part of the indoor lobby of the theater. The fee for an area has not been set yet but it will be VERY small. This space is nearly full but you can be on the waiting list. The board is working on securing more space from the Paramount. SEPT. 1- SEPT 30 NEW CENTRACARE Exhibit. $5 per painting. The artists signed up previously will have preference for this rescheduled event. A waiting list isl be added. Last day to advise Robyn York robyncmw@gmail.com with your title, size, and price is Aug. 24, CentraCare will a collect!5% commission and tax similar to the St. Cloud Hospital shows since they are part of the same corp. SEPT. 14, 2015 CMW annual Dinner and Auction meeting 6-8:30 pm. Watab Town Hall. Details TBA. The board will work on this in late July. OCT. 1 NOV. 30, 2015 River s Edge convention Center, St. Cloud. Hang date is Oct. 1 from 4-5 pm. Take down is Nov. 30 from 4-5 p,m. There is no limit on the number of pieces. Centracare will keep 15%.

5 OCT 10-11, Watercolor weekend workship with Frank Zeller from 9-4 pm Sat. and Sun. This workshop has just been posted. CMW members have first choice to attend until Aug. 14, Then it will be open to the public. The tuition is $100. A supply list will be mailed. He will tell us about his day job, Architectural Commercial and Residential renderings for firms in the cities. Now you know why Kerry s buildings blend so well with the environment.
