The reality is that we have a few more months of winter to endure, so why not make the best of it and spend some time indoors working on those unfinished projects or creating new quilts from scratch. I don t know about you, but I have a few of those UFO s hiding in my sewing room!! Just in case you need some inspiration to help get you started, be sure to check out our listing of new classes being offered in the upcoming months. Our new Block of the Month is completed and hanging in the shop. It is a brand new pattern designed by Monique Dillard of Open Gate. We have constructed the quilt using Monique s Old World Style fabric which is a beautiful baroque influenced fabric. Monique has included large scale prints, backgrounds, tonals and small scale patterns. The colors are inspired by the cities of Europe from creamy marbles of Florence to the garnet reds of Madrid and garden greens of Strasburg. Intrigued?!? It s a beauty! Don t forget to mark your calendar for our upcoming Anniversary Sale on February 3,4,&5. Can you believe it s been 6 years since we ve opened our doors? As always, we have created a 9-patch anniversary quilt which will be unveiled at our sale. Hope to see you all then! Bring your sewing machine, quilting, crafting or stitching projects, and treat yourself to a day or several days of creative fun. Vintage Loft will provide you with sewing space and comfortable sleeping facilities. There is also a kitchen for those who want to bring their own food to cook. However, downtown Dyersville has several wonderful restaurants within walking distance. (Who wants to cook while on vacation not us!) Heritage Trail is not too far away if you would feel the need to stretch your legs. We are truly excited to be able to offer this service to our wonderful customers. They always say "time flies when you're having fun" and the past 6 years have definitely flown by for us. To show our appreciation for all your support during these past 6 years, we are extending to you a 20% savings on all regular priced merchandise. Block of the Month 2011 Block of the Month is called "Vintage Style" and is ready for viewing in the shoppe. Vintage Style 90 x 108 Requirements for Vintage Style : Starting in February we will be offering our 2011 Block of the Month. This year s quilt called "Vintage Style" was designed by Monique Dillard of Open Gate. It is a beautiful baroque influenced fabric which includes large scale prints, backgrounds, tonals and small scale patterns. The colors are inspired by the cities of Europe from creamy marbles of Florence to the garnet reds of Madrid and garden greens of Strasburg. Monique designed the fabric for Maywood Studios and she calls her new line Olde World Style. The first class will start the 3rd weekend of February with 3 classes offered Thursday thru Saturday. Subsequent classes will run the third weekend of each month Thursday thru Saturday for 10 consecutive months. You will construct 12 blocks plus alternate blocks and a finishing border. Listed below are the times and dates for the first month of classes. You pick the class that best fits your schedule and then call or stop in to reserve your spot space is limited. Mail orders are also welcomed. Each month you will receive the pattern for one or two of the blocks. You will need to purchase kits for the alternate blocks and finishing border. This is a lecture style class so there is no need to bring sewing supplies to class. Class 1: Thursday Feb. 17 6:30pm Class 2: Friday Feb. 18 1:30pm Class 3: Saturday Feb am cost $65.00 includes pattern, a tower of fabrics for 12 blocks, plus background fabric for blocks Kits will be available to purchase at a later date for alternate blocks and finishing border prize drawings each month for those attending the class and completing the previous month's blocks Need not attend classes to be part of BOM, but instructions will not be given outside of meeting If you are unable to attend the meetings you can join online or just give us a call and we will be glad to add you to BOM by mail. 4 4 Vintage Threads Quilt Shoppe Winter/Spring 2011 February & March Yo-Yo One Session: $5.00 For those of you who have asked us for a class in this age old technique, here it is. Yo Yo's are fun to make and a great take along while you sit and wait at appointments. Use a charm pack and one of the many different shapes and sizes created by Clover. You can use Yo Yo's to embellish your quilt, purse, wall hanging. Be creative! Thursday February 10 10:30am 11:30am T-Shirt Quilt Level: Advanced Beginner Two Sessions: $35.00 plus supplies Instructor: Kathy Soppe Do you have kids graduating this spring? What do you do with all those t-shirts when your kids no longer wear them or have out grown them? One way is to create a keepsake quilt. Kathy will show you the techniques needed to prepare your t-shirts and then give you great ideas to help you construct a quilt filled with lots of memories. Tuesday February 22 & March 1 6pm 8:30pm Zippy Strippy or Cash & Carry Level: Advanced Beginner One Session: $20.00 plus supplies Instructor: Kathy Napientek These easy and fun purses from Atkinson Design use buttons, rick rack, and other fun trims. Have trouble with zipper's? This is the class for you. Use Terry's easy method to put in a zipper and you'll agree that zippers are no big deal! Saturday February 26 9:30am 12:30pm Beginning Quilting 101 Five Sessions: $65.00 plus fabric & supplies Four Square Farmhouse One Session: $20.00 plus supplies This quilt square was named after the four square farmhouses that were built when Teddy Roosevelt was president. These homes had simple, pleasing proportions, just as your quilt will. Atkinson Designs offers a variety of sizes to choose from. We have chosen the lap size 58" x 72" for our four square farmhouse. Choose any one of the sizes for your quilt. Tuesday February 15 9:30am 12:30pm Class Policy: Full payment is required at time of class registration. Cancellation of a class must be made at least 5 days before scheduled class. No refund or payment transfers will be given less than 5 days prior to class unless class does not fill. We reserve the right to cancel classes if minimum enrollment is not met. You will be notified and money refunded. A supply list will be handed out at the time of registration. Make sure you read through it carefully so that you come to class prepared. A 10% discount is given for all supplies & fabric needed for class. Excludes Block of Month and guest teachers. No sharing of books or patterns used in class. Make sure your sewing machine is in good working order. Beginning Quilting 101 will take you from the beginning to the end of quilt making. The class will cover fabric selection, rulers, rotary cutting, piecing, pressing, squaring up blocks and quilt tops, measuring and applying borders, basting and machine straight line stitching, and adding binding. By the end of the 5 weeks you will have mastered many different quilting techniques and have completed a beautiful table runner. Wednesday March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 1:00pm 4:00pm All Quilts for classes are on display in the store! We also have machines available for classroom use. Let us know when you register for class if you will need a machine.

5 Winter/Spring 2011 Vintage Threads Quilt Shoppe 5 April & May Circle of Stars Level: Advanced Beginner One Session: $20.00 plus supplies Instructor: Kathy Napientek Learn two different applique techniques to apply circles and stars on this fun primitive quilt from Little Stitches. When finished your quilt will measure 31" x 40" and will be great as a table topper or hanging on the wall. Thursday March 24 1:00pm 4:00pm Fabric Gift Bags One Session: $15.00 plus supplies Instructor: Doris Deutmeyer Easy to sew, easy to give. These fun gift bags use simple construction techniques. Learn how to box the bottom of the bag, add shaping and insert grommets. Doris will bring more great ideas on how to decorate your bag. You won't be able to make just one! Saturday March 26 10:00am Noon Color Theory 101 One Session: $15.00 plus kit Instructor: Doris Deutmeyer Beginning color theory made easy. Learn the basics with hands-on color exercises. Create your own fabric color wheels and color harmonies. Doris will help you develop color confidence to make your next quilt project your own with personal color selections. See color harmonies in action with samples of quilts and fabric art. This is a great class for anyone wishing to expand their color knowledge. Tuesday April 12 10:00am Noon 9-Patch Technique One Session: $15.00 plus supplies Learn how to make a positive and negative 9-patch block from a light and dark square. You can choose from a variety of quilt patterns to put this fun technique to use. Tuesday April 12 6:00pm 8:00pm Machine Quilting One Session: $15.00 Have you always wanted to quilt your own projects? Learn how to prepare your quilt and the basic techniques of straight line and free motion quilting using your sewing machine. Wednesday May 4 9:30am 11:30am Finishing Your Quilt Binding One Session: $15.00 Do you have unfinished quilts that just need binding? We will show you how to square up your quilt and add the binding either straight or bias for a beautiful finish. If you don t have a quilt that needs binding, just come and learn the technique for your next project. Wednesday May 4 1:00pm 3:00pm

Tri-State Shop Hop Challenge April 1 Finished projects using the 5" squares of Christmas fabric you received on the Tri-State Shop Hop must be returned to the shop of your choice. Judging will take place April 18th and quilts will be on display at any of the 6 shops. INCLEMENT WEATHER Because the weather can change so rapidly this time of year classes may have to be cancelled at a moments notice. If weather is threatening, please call ahead to make sure your class is still on before you travel to the shop. We will do our best to reschedule classes if they are cancelled due to weather. Since we travel a distance to work during inclement weather call ahead to make sure we are open for business.
