1 Class & Event Schedule Fall West Fifth Street, Pinconning MI or New Inspiration Fall Shop Hop Sept. 15, 16, & 17! Get a group of friends together and enjoy learning something new at each shop. Three shops in all: Bittersweet in Pinconning, Park Bench in Midland, and Bayview Calico in AuGres. Each shop will feature a new ruler, demos, and a free pattern. Passports are $5.00, available now at any one of the shops. 18 Tuffet Class: If you would like one for your home or to give as a gift, sign up today! Here is what you ll need to bring with you to class: 24-3 by 21 1/2 strips, with Pellon ShapeFlex fused to the back, 1/2 yd. fabric to cover bottom of the stool, 4 square for covered button, sewing machine, general sewing supplies, rotary cutter, 15 degree ruler, pattern, and large button to cover. We carry all of these supplies in the shop. They sell out regularly, so get them in advance. Tuffet supplies: 18 wood circle 1 thick, 4 pre-made legs with hardware to attach them, and one tuffet foam (foam is also available in the shop). All other supplies will be available in class. You will finish the project in class! Pick up the class supply list at the shop. Date: Wed. Sept. 21st and our last class for the year will be Tuesday, December 6th. Time: 10:00-4:00 Fee: $25 Instructors: Sharon & Tina Singer Featherweight Clinic During this clinic we discuss history, maintenance, features of the machine, free motion quilting, and attachments. Please do not bring your machine with you on this day, we use our machines for demos. There will be machines, supplies, and attachments available for purchase on this day. Monte will be instructing this class. Dates: Thurs. Sept. 22nd from 11-1 pm, Sat. Oct. 22nd from 11-1, Tues. Dec. 6th from 6-8pm Fee: $5.00 Instructor: Monte/Carol Wool Tree In this class you will make a unique tree made from wool. The class fee includes all the supplies to make a 12 tree in green or cream. No sewing machine required! Bring with you a sharp pair of scissors that have a sharp tip. I found that the Karen Kay Buckley 6 medium blue worked great. We do carry these in the shop if you would like a pair. Once you make one tree in class you ll be able to make a larger tree at home. We will have larger kits available for purchase in the shop by October. When you register please tell us what color you would like to make, green or cream. 2 2016 Mystery Quilt by Border Creek Station and Moda! This mystery quilt class has been a huge success at the shop for the past four years. This years fabric is by the French General with beautiful grays and reds, or choose your own fabric with our help. The design is one of my favorites yet! The class meets once a month on a Wednesday and you can choose to stay and sew or take it home and work on it. You can also have the pattern installment shipped to you directly if you are a snowbird. Fabric is picked up at the beginning in the form of a kit and each month a new pattern installment is given out. The class fee is a one time fee of $25 and includes your pattern packet each month. The cost of the kit will be $129 for the Lazy Lap 59 x 77 or $179 for the Quaintly Queen 98 x 98. We only have 20 slots available and they sell out fast so don t wait too long to register! Eight months to make an heirloom quilt! Dates: Oct. 26th, Nov. 28th (Monday), Dec. 28th, Jan. 25th, Feb. 22nd, Mar. 29th, April 26th & May 31 Silo Barn Block: This block is one of my favorites from the Farm Girl Vintage book, $ We will make this 14 x 14 barn block in class, but before we begin we will need to make the 6 x 6 chicken foot block for the door. All fabric will need to be cut before class and tagged by letter. A list of cutting directions will be given at time of registration. Please bring all basic sewing supplies. Date: Monday, Oct. 17th from 10:00-3:00 Fee: $10.00 Vintage Retreat Open House: We will be holding a second open house for those of you who would like to tour through the retreat house. Tours are only given during an Open House due to the many groups who are now using the retreat. You can also see photos of both retreats on our website. During the Open House a staff member will give you a tour, answer questions, contracts will be available, along with refreshments. We hope you ll get a few friends together and make the trip for this special event! Please register your tour group by calling the shop at Date: Thursday, September 22nd from 10-5p.m. Petal Pillow You may have seen the sample of our pillow in the shop over the past few years. It s very popular and easy to make. We have had numerous requests for this class again, so here it is. You ll want to cut all your petals before class, this will allow us to complete the project in class. Please bring with you your basic sewing supplies and machine along with the following: 2 buttons that are at least 1 3/4, and a smaller one for the underside of the pillow. You can also choose to cover a button to match your fabric, like the picture to the left. One bag of Perfect Loft by Pellon, this fiber fill is soft and does not clump (available in the shop), 1/2 yard fabric for front/back of pillow, one package seam binding or single fold bias tape, 44 pre-cut petals (each petal has a front and back). Each petal take a 5 1/2 x 12 piece of fabric. I can cut 5 petals from a fat quarter or 6 petals from 1/3 yard of fabric. You can choose as many colors as you would like. When you register for class please let us know if you need to purchase the book or already have it. The template for the petal is located in the book. 3 Squedge Table Runner: This unique ruler makes a beautiful design. If you ve wanted to learn something new and interesting this might be the class for you. Intermediate level. In class we will make the table runner, but the ruler makes a 16 square, so a quilt would be something you would want to try after the class. When you register for the class we will give you the supply list. Also, bring all your basic sewing supplies to class. The ruler can be purchased from the shop for $ Sharon Franks will be instructing this class. Date: Thur. November 17th from 10:30-3:30 Fee: $15 Vintage Truck Wool Mat: This is a fun new pattern by Buttermilk Basin. I thought this would be a great project for those of you wanting to do a wool applique for fall. The class fee includes the pattern and wool kit to finish the project. You ll need to bring your pearle cotton thread, scissors for cutting paper and wool, and 1/2 yard of Steam A Seam Lite, pencil and chenille needle for stitching. Two day Class! Date: Tuesday, Oct. 4th & Monday, November 7th from 10-2pm Fee: $40 Instructor: Tina Date: Tuesday, October 11th from 10-3 Sew Together Bag: This small bag carries many of your sewing notions. Fun to make, and even better as a gift for that special quilting friend this Christmas. Supplies to bring include: pattern, basic sewing supplies, zipper foot, 1 fat quarter for exterior, 1/2 yard fabric for lining, 1/3yard for pocket lining, 1 fat quarter for binding, 1/2 yard fusible lightweight interfacing, 1 18 x 22 fusible fleece, 1-18 zipper, 3-9 zippers. Remember zippers can be cut down to size. If you want to add the pincushion and needle landing see pattern for what is needed. All fabric and interfacing needs to be cut prior to class and can be found on page one of the pattern. This will allow time to finish the bag during class. Fee: $20 Instructor: Kathy Open Sew: Bring your unfinished projects, or begin a new one. The retreat area is open for you and a few friends. Use our cutting mats, irons & boards, bring a lunch and enjoy the day. Reservations are required due to a limit of 16 Time:10-4 Fee: Free Dates: September 29th, October 20th, November 4th, or December 15th Just a Reminder: Class fee s are non-refundable unless we need to cancel due to weather or lack of participation. 4 Hunter s Star: This block is famous for all the variations you can create. Deb Tucker s new book Hidden Treasures shows over 30 different quilt recipes with this block. Sharon will teach you how to use the ruler and get perfect blocks each time. You will need the book ($29.50) for the class along with the Rapid Fire Hunter s Star Template ($25.99). The best thing about it is you get to choose which pattern you would like to make. You ll need all items before class, including your fabric. This will be a two part class. Dates: Wed., Sept. 28th & Oct. 12th from 10:30-2:30 Fee: one time fee of $25 Stitching Pillow: This pillow is so unique that it s very hard to explain how it looks. You can see a sample in the shop. This pillow is used on your lap when you are doing hand embroidery or wool applique. It helps prevent your neck from leaning in a downward position. Easy to make and only takes two coordinating fat quarters and one bag of Perfect Loft. A fellow quilter, Anna Bates, shared this pattern with me while we were at Crabapple Hill Studios in Washington this July. I think you ll really like the pattern. Supplies: Two coordinating fat quarters, and basic sewing supplies. Dates: Thursday, October 27th Time: 11-1 Fee: $5.00 Instructor:Sharon Cabo Bucket Bag: Every once in awhile we offer a class on a great purse. This one is no exception. The purse is a good size with easy construction. You will need to quilt your fabric before class in order to finish the project that day. Supplies: basic sewing supplies, pattern that includes hardware, 1yard for outer bag, outer pocket, handle, ect., 1/2 yard for lining, and 1/2 yard for inner pockets, and outer pocket lining, 1 yard of Fusible Fleece, 1 large button. You can see a sample of the purse/bag in the shop. Before class cut 2 18 wide x 15 tall for outside of bag, 2 18 x 15 for lining and 4 18 x 15 of fusible fleece. Fuse the four pieces of fusible fleece to the wrong sides of both outer pieces and both lining pieces. Then quilt as desired. Bring everything with you to class along with basic sewing supplies. Once you make this bag once you ll certainly make more for gifts. 5 Beginners Free Motion Quilting: We have offered this class all summer and it has sold out every time. Karen Swaty teaches this class for us, and she comes with great knowledge of machines. Don t let free motion quilting stress you out! Karen will make you relax and get comfortable with it. This class is for beginners or those who have tried and think they ve failed. Class fee includes your fabric sandwiches that will be used in class. Supplies to bring: Machine, machine manual, darning or quilting foot, scissors, bright colored thread 50 weight in your bobbin and for top of machine. Quilting needles size 75 and 90, and quilting gloves if you have them (both available in the shop). This will be the last class for this calendar year! Date: Thursday, November 3rd from 10:30-1:30 Fee: $25 Instructor: Karen Michigan Memory Pillow: Do you have a fond memory of someone special and would like to turn their shirt into a unique pillow? You ll need a button down dress shirt (all the way down) for this project. Supplies to bring: Basic sewing supplies, one bag of Perfect Loft (available in the shop) matching thread for your machine. Date: Wednesday, October 19th from Fee: $5.00 Instructor: Tina Fold n Stitch Leaf Topper: Let the creative spirit soar with this natureinspired table topper. For Christmas you can make it look like a poinsettia. It s all about fabric choices with this unique pattern. The finished project is 17 in diameter. Supplies: pattern, two pieces of green each at 3/8 yard, and eight pieces of fabric for the petals that are 5 x 7, one package of In-R- Form single sided fusible, 2/3 yard of Heat n Bond lite, Frixion Pen, Microtex Sharp needle, contrasting thread for applique of petals, scissors, and sewing machine, and rotary cutter.
