1 Classes at Quilter's Emporium If you are interested in taking one of our classes, you can either sign up in person at the shop or over the phone, by calling Skill level Scale Beginner - Student has no piecing or quilting experience Experienced Beginner - Student has attended Beginning Quiltmaking Class or equivalent. Intermediate- Student has completed a few quilt tops and is ready to "grow" their skills. A confident piecer. It is the student's responsibility to remind the clerk at the time of checkout, if fabric or notions are being purchased for a class, qualifying for a 15% discount. We cannot go back to previous sales tickets to issue discounts. We appreciate your help in this. CLUBS Mystery Club Our new mystery quilt classes will begins on February 23. If you ever wanted to be a part of our great group of mystery-loving sewists, this is your chance! Just buy the required yardage for the next quilt and let our cashier know that you want to be a part of this group that meets the last Saturday of every month from 9-11 or 11:30-1:30. The pattern and class are free with purchase of fabric. In addition to distributing the quilt blocks and providing instructions for making the blocks, you will be treated to the antics of the Emporium staff as we tell you all the latest news in the shop, show demos, show you some quilting tips and tricks, see show and tells and more. Door prizes every meeting! For those of you who purchased the setting kit, remember to prepare your fabric as discussed in the last meeting and bring it to the workshop with your machine and other sewing supplies. 2 Freshman year is well under way, with Tucker Trimmer and V-block complete. Our March ruler is the Wing Clipper 1, used to make flying geese the Studio 180 way, a bit larger than necessary and trimmed down to perfection. If you have ever been dissatisfied with your geese because one side was taller than the other, this ruler could become your best friend! We will also learn to make Pickets and Quickets, a variation of flying geese. Our Sophomore collegiate are working on Stacked Squares this week. Using the large Square Squared ruler, they have been creating squares inside of squares inside of squares inside of squares. And all those points are absolutely beautiful. Next month will be a new ruler, the Petite Rapid Fire Hunter s Star. This was one of Deb Tucker s first creations, and is one of her best. We will be creating a challenging block from strip sets, and this tool makes it easy! If you missed our Tucker Trimmer class, please make note of our make-up class. We will cover the basics of the ruler, with special emphasis on techniques needed for our new mystery quilt. We will not be accepting new members after our February meeting. Many of our visitors have seen the small swap blocks and are concerned about the small size they finish at 2. They are really cute, but they are certainly small! In their defense, they are made from strip sets and have nesting seam allowances, so that makes them easier. There s a template, so they can be made larger than the final dimensions and trimmed down if that is your preference. At our February meeting, our first bi-monthly pattern will be distributed. Kid s Day Cinch Me Bag - $20 plus supplies Would you like a young person in your life to learn to sew? This is a great beginner project. It uses the AccuQuilt Go Me! cutter and die to precisely cut the various pieces for this adorable koala. A bit of ironing, a few quick seams, and the project is done. Children age 8 and over are welcome. (As are adults! It s a great short lesson on using the AccuQuilt and on fusible applique.) If you have a Go Me!, please bring it. If you don t, learn on ours! Experience Level Beginner Teacher Bonnie McCormick Thursday, March 14, 10-12:30 Yellow Brick Road - $30 plus pattern Do you want to learn to piece a quilt but don t have the time to devote to four classes? Have you taken Beginning Quiltmaking and are looking for an easy quilt as your next project? Yellow Brick Road is the quilt for you! It is yardage or fat quarter friendly, uses only squares and rectangles, and goes together in a snap! We have coordinating fat quarter bundles prepared or choose your own theme. Panels! - $30 Many of our visitors have commented on panels it s beautiful, or intriguing, or a great novelty idea, but how do I make a quilt of it? Join us for a Saturday afternoon of fun, design, panels, and answers to that question. This is a lecture class, no need to bring sewing supplies. We will have lots of examples, a handout full of possibilities, and time to plan beautiful, intriguing, and novel designs for panels! Experience Level Beginner to advanced Teachers Pam Baum and Bonnie McCormick Saturday, March 16, 1-4:30 Alaska - $80 plus pattern and templates This is a magnificent quilt, made manageable with the use of templates and Elizabeth s tried and true piecing techniques. The special templates help to create engineered corners, facilitating correct placement of the many diamonds in the block. After making well over a dozen quilts using these general shapes, Elizabeth has lots of tricks and tips to improve your piecing results. Judy Niemeyer has done it again - designed an amazingly difficult looking project which utilizes tons of Quiltworx techniques thereby rendering it straight forward and simple to complete and assemble. Technique of the Month patterns are specifically designed to showcase the latest techniques developed by Judy Niemeyer / Quiltworx with the expectation that anyone, whether they are experienced paper piecers or just getting started, can enjoy and complete the project. Emphasis is on "complete" because Judy wants her designs to be enjoyed - not added to a "In Process" list then packed up and stored in a closet. The 2019 NEW Technique of the Month, the Dinner Plate Dahlia, is no exception. Whether you choose the wall hanging (80 x 80 ) or queen (99 x 99 ) sized project, you will have an incredible quilt top when you are through. Join Jan Mathews, a Judy Niemeyer Quilting / Quiltworx.com Certified Instructor, to learn how easy paper piecing "Judy's way" really is. Jan Mathews, a Certified Instructor for Judy Niemeyer Quilting, will be available to answer questions and get over trouble spots. Several dates have changed to the second class of Technique of the Month. We will be adding additional days, please check back with us! Teacher: Jan Mathews Monday, March 4, 10-5 Friday, April 12, 10-5 Sunday, May 19, 10-5 Baby Bella Quiltworx Wallhanging - $89 This is a great project for beginning paper piecers! Over the course of 2 days, the students will learn a variety of techniques and efficiencies from our Judy Niemeyer Certified Instructor, Jan Mathews. This is a 36 square wallhanging, which can be completed in a relatively short time. If you are interested in a fabric kit, we will be happy to pick colors and put it together for you. If you would like to pick your own colors, that is always an option. Teacher Jan Mathews Tuesday and Thursday, March 5 and 7, 10-5 Sew-cial General Sit and Sew - $10 Did you know that you can bring your project to the shop and spend a great day sewing and socializing? We set aside a day each month for folks to bring in a quilt project and get lots of advice from our experienced staff. 5 BASIC SKILLS CLASSES Beginning Quilt Making - $100 This is an excellent first class for anyone who is interested in learning to piece a quilt. Original Pam is back and sharing her skills and wisdom! She will go over the entire quiltmaking process - from reading patterns to fabric selection to precision cutting and quarter inch seams. Join us to make an all around quilt top that has been taught to over 2000 students over the years! This class would be a great Christmas present to someone you love who would like to learn quiltmaking! Teacher - Pam Thorlin Sundays, March 17, 24, April 7, Beginning Machine Quilting - $30 If you are ready to learn to use your domestic sewing machine to quilt your quilt tops, then this is the class for you. Rose Ann walks you through the entire process so that you can go home and start machine quilting that stack! You will need to bring your sewing machine, a walking foot (even feed foot) and a darning foot (free motion foot). Level: Beginner Teacher: Rose Ann Cook Basic Quilt Binding - $30 Includes kit - quilt "sandwich" and fabric for binding strips. Teacher: Vikki Youngmeyer/Rose Ann Cook Level: Beginner Westalee Quilting Templates Guide Class If you purchased and received your Sew Steady table and Westalee quilting templates, then this is the class that will help you learn how to use them. Attendees, please bring 2-3 fat quarter sized "quilt sandwiches" to practice upon. It's a great idea to use Sullivan's Basting Spray between the layers of the fabric and batting. Leader - Rose Ann Cook Sunday, March 17, 12-2:30 Janome Machine Guide Class Do you feel that you are utilizing your Janome sewing and / or embroidery machine to the fullest? We offer free guide classes to everyone who purchased their machine from us, and are always happy to teach the wonders of these machines! If you have already had a guide class but feel that you need a refresher, please call to schedule one. If you purchased your Janome elsewhere, we will still be happy to give you a guide class for a nominal fee.
