3 Bag Day for Doctors Without Borders Doctors without Borders need our help so they can help people in crisis around the world. These easy-to-make bags are used to hold items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, medications and for the children small toys. They are popular with the kids. Joyce Phillips from Muscatine has taken on this cause and we at Neal s are more than happy to help. Neal s is providing the machines and the space for Joyce to have a sewing day where you can come in and make these bags. Since many of you would like to help, but are unable to come that day, we will be the drop off point for any bags you may like to make at home. Just drop them off at the store by October 31 and we will see that Joyce gets them in time for a local doctor to take them with him. To make 1 bag it only take a piece of fabric 11 X 18 and a piece of 1/4 ribbon or cording 27 long. Whether you can help by making bags at home, or by coming on Bag Day or by donating fabric or 1/4 ribbon or cord for the making of these bags, your help will be greatly appreciated. This year s Bag Day will be Tuesday, September 25 from 10am - 3pm. Come for the day or just over your lunch break. Every minute counts. 4 Classes Let's start at the very beginning, it's a very good place to start. In the classes listed in this section, Mary will show the beginning sewist about basic sewing techniques, sewing terms, and sewing machines. Don't have a sewing machine? Not to worry, you can borrow one of ours for class. Check out all the options available to you and get signed up early! Another Class Added by Popular Demand In this class you will be making an apron to hone your sewing skills and learn new ones as well. Class Meets:Sept 13 5:30-8:30pm Class Fee: $20.00 Use the Serge and Flip method to make easy placemats with batting. Jane will show you how to serge the pieces together and quilt them together in one step. One side has 4 blocks and the other side has 2 stripes so they are reversible. To finish the edges, serge a decorative edge with a 3 Thread Overlock stitch or a Wave stitch. Also serge a matching Rolled Edge napkin. A wonderful way to learn to use your serger! Class size is limited so sign up early! You must pay for the class to reserve your spot! Class Meets: September 27-9am - 12pm Class Fee: $25.00 In this class you will be making this zippered bag. You will learn how to insert a zipper and if you want to earn "extra credit", you can applique a letter on your bag. 5 Leslie's Sewcial is the perfect class for you if you are wanting to finish a project, but you need a little assistance. Or maybe you don't know how to get started on a project you have been wanting to make. Spend all day with Leslie and others who love to sew like you. Upcoming dates include: September 8 & 22 9am - 3pm Class Fee $35.00 Clubs Kathy leads this club to help anyone with a long arm quilter become more accomplished and make quilting easier. Meets first Wednesday of the Month at 10am Fee: $5.00 Leslie will show how to make a special project designed by Kimberbell especially for this club. If you own an embroidery machine this is for you. This Free Demo is every first Thursday at 10am or 2pm Let Mary show you this fun little organizer that is perfect for your sewing supplies, keeping your desk tidy or holding your jewelry. It's really simple too, requiring very little sewing. Come have fun, measuring and sewing and folding and before you know it, voila, you will be organized!!.
