1 CLASS LISTINGS TERM THREE QUINTESSENTIAL QUILTS UNIT 1/8 DEWAR STREET MORLEY WA 6062 (08) HELLO FELLOW QUILTERS!!! ISSUE 33, TERM We thought we would make an early start on Christmas this year. To give you plenty of time to have your projects finished in time for the festive season, and if you are making any as gifts they can be finished, wrapped and under the tree in plenty of time. As well we are running all our basic classes in piecing, quilting and appliqué. We have 11 sewing and appliqué groups. Tuesday to Friday mornings and afternoons as well as evening sewing groups Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. If you have free time through the week, why not join one of our sewing groups, with a teacher to help and a great group of girls all with the same interest as yourself, enjoy a cuppa, a laugh and finish those UFO that we all have. If you are planning on have your quilts professionally quilted, award winning long arm quilter Jo Northcott is our shop quilter. Just drop your quilt at the shop, and it will be returned beautifully quilted ready to be picked up a month later, include your binding and Jo will attach that as well. Staff members Judith Lubieniecki (Lubi Lou Quilting) and Susan Hartley ( Sew Many Quilts ) also do professional machine quilting. Hope to see you all in the shop soon, admiring all the class pieces, checking out the new fabrics that have arrived, or just for a cuppa and a chat. Requirements for class will only be given out on payment of registration. Class fees are non-refundable. You may transfer to another class up until 7 days prior to scheduled class. After that we are committed to run the class so there are no transfers or credits. A credit will be give for classes cancelled due to lack of numbers. Have your sewing machine in good working order. This little wall hanging is made using both simple machine appliqué (hand appliqué if you prefer) and hand stitched trees. This class covers the basics of cutting, stitching and re-squaring your blocks and will set you on the path to making many beautiful quilts in the future. Ideal to give as a gift, or to dress up your own table or dresser. Soft and pretty or strong and dramatic, the choice is all in the fabrics you chose. With Sue Drill. 9:30 12:00 Friday August 5 th & 12 th A bright visual quilt made from the beautiful Bali fabrics we have in stock. The blocks are made from strata s, cross cut then stitched into blocks, the blocks are then re-squared so when stitched into rows the blocks make waves down the length of the quilt.

5 Kris Kringle Table-runner (Beg) $60.00 PAGE 5 PAGE 5 1 x 5 hrs. With Gayle Jones. 9:30 3:00 Saturday August 6 th A fun, and cute table-runner, to help dress up your home for the Christmas season. With cute little Santa's all along the length alternating the side they face so there is no wrong way to put this little cutie on the table, and so everyone gets to see Santa the right way up. Beginners Machine Sampler (Beg) $ x 2 ½ hrs. With Gayle Jones. 9:30 12:00 Wednesday August 10 th, 17 th, 24 th, 31 st & September 7 th & 14 th. Join Gayle and over six weeks learn all the different techniques to make up the nine blocks in this lovely Sampler Quilt. You are sure to have some fun and a few laughs along the way. Christmas Star Eight Point Block Lap Quilt (Beg-Int) $ x 5 hrs. With Susan Hartley. 9:30 3:00 Saturday Aug 13 th This block is made by using a piecing and cutting method rather than the trickier Y seam. Accuracy in pinning, pressing the seams and stitching the block as well as joining the blocks together will be covered in detail in the class. Three blocks for a table-runner, six for a cot quilt, or nine for a lap quilt. Whether done in red and green Christmas fabrics or your favorite range of colours this is a beautiful block that is a joy to make. Delectable Mountains (Beg) $ x 2 ½ hrs. With Susan Hartley. 9:30 12:00 Tuesday August 16 th & 23 rd This is a quilt block that entails a little bit of piecing, stitching, re-cutting, lifting, shifting and piecing again. A trick that leaves you with blocks that can be put together in many ways to give you a variety of completely different quilts, many different fabrics can be used in the one quilt, so this is a great pattern to help tame your fabric stash. Or just use two for a strikingly simple quilt.

6 PAGE 6 PAGE 6 Beginners Hand Appliqué Sampler (Beg) $ x 2 ½ hrs. With Robyn Macdonald. 12:30 3:00 Wednesday August 17 th, 24 th, 31 st & September 7 th, 14 th & 21 st. Join Robyn for six lessons covering all the basics of needle turn appliqué. At the end of the six weeks you will have a beautiful appliquéd quilt top ready to be quilted, Robyn can also show you the basics of how to hand quilt your masterpiece. Six Shades of Blue (Beg) $ x 2 ½ hrs. With Sue Drill. 9:30 12:00 Friday August 19 th & 26 th I used six shades of blue from darkest navy to a soft pretty blue to make this quilt that seem to move all on its own. Made using strata s that are cross cut at different widths, stitched into blocks, the blocks are then turned in the lay out, to finish with this large lap size quilt. Finish your Beginners Patchwork (Beg) $ x 5 hrs. With Sue Drill. 9:30 3:00 Saturday August 20 th A class that covers set-in triangles, corner triangles and borders. Bring along your Beginners Patchwork blocks and I will show you how to put them together into a quilt. Quilt as you Go Table-runner A, B, C or D (Beg) $ x 5 hrs. With Sue Drill. 9:30 3:00 Saturday August 20 th A fast fun, project. Great to give as gifts, or to decorate your own home. All you need for this class is a feature, a background, and two contrast fabrics. Pre-cutting required prior to class. A Sewing machine with a ¼ foot, Rotary cutter, Board & Quilters rulers.

7 Slouch Bag (Beg) $60.00 PAGE 7 PAGE 7 Bargello Star Christmas Tree-skirt (Beg-Int) $ x 5 hrs. With Sue Drill. 9:30 3:00 Saturday August 27 th This tree skirt can be made for an artificial tree with a center hole or for a fresh tree by leaving one seam open and adding ties or Velcro to fasten it closed. The panels are made from strata s cross cut at different widths stitched together, bordered and then trimmed with the help of the 60 degree line on your quilters ruler. Six panels make the tree skirt that I think Santa will be most impressed with. 1 x 5 hrs. With Elinor Milewski. 9:30 3:00 Monday August 22 nd Make this lovely slouch bag as a Christmas gift for a good friend or just for yourself, with useful outside pockets, one for your water bottle and another for your keys, plus a pocket inside just the right size to hold your phone. Elinor used the lovely American in Paris fabric to make this stylish, modern bag, and she swears it is not a tricky bag to make. Angle Advent Calendar (Beg-Int) $ x 5 hrs. With Sue Drill. 9:30 3:00 Saturday August 27 th An advent calendar to count down the sleep s till Santa s visit on December 25th, with pockets to hold small treats and with machine appliquéd manger and sheep as well as a Christmas tree and an Angel to ring in the festive season. With Susan Hartley. 9:30-3:00 Tuesday August 30 th We have a beautiful range of Linen in the shop in three different colour ways and a multitude of different patterns. Susan made this cute set of bunting flags that would look lovely decorating any baby nursery

With Judith Lubieniecki. 9:30-12:00 Thursday Sept 1 st & 8 th This lovely quilt is a great way to showcase a Jelly Roll or use up your left over scrap strips. So why not dig into your stash and use up left over binding strips and other pieces of fabric that, there is just not enough of. Use them in this scrap quilt. Just pick a background to help made all your colours POP! Leaves in the Christmas Hearth (Beg) $ x 2 ½ hrs. With Gayle Jones. 9:30 12:00 Friday September 2 nd & 9 th Gayle wanted a Christmas quilt because Judith & Jackie both have one. This beauty is what Gayle made for her bed to wear in the festive season, use a jelly roll plus four extra strips and a neutral background. 2 ½ strip Mystery x 3 (Beg) $ x 5 hrs. With Davena Watts. 9:30 3:00 Saturday September 3 rd Join Davena and she will start you on three different MYSTERY quilts. All using 2 ½ wide cut strips or a Jelly Roll. Each quilt uses a different technique and this is a good opportunity to use up some of your fabric stash. Techniques covered in the quilts include calculating the size of setting in triangles, stitching partial seams, quick corners using The perfect angler tool and half hexagons. This quilt is easy enough for a beginner, as it is a snow ball block alternating with a nine patch block and it would look very festive over the back of the couch in your family room this year. Straight line quilting, curved stencil quilting, plus how to make a stencil fit your quilt. A darning foot is a must as you will also be freehand quilting in the afternoon.
