1 Price List December 3, 2013 PART 1 - Oddball Post cards and Postal Rules. This price list is part 1 of my personal collec on of oddball postcards, post cards with a achments, unusual shape, form and material. It focuses on the confusion and ignorance of postal employees in applying the rules. But to be far the Edward/Admiral period was a me of enormous explosion in the use of postcards and many items certainly slipped through. Not every postal clerk was familiar with the rules, and that is what makes collec ng fun. You can find a rule breaker as #1) slipping through, #2) being caught and rated postage due or #3) being charged the le er rate because the clerk knew the rules. I would certainly be pleased if someone would like to con nue with this collec on, buying it intact or largely intact. If you are looking for a fun new side line, consider this. PO Guide rules 28 states nor may it be cut or altered in any way. This card allowed through. It is one of very few die cut post cards that I have seen and is simple the best - a teddy bear. $150

Die cut postcards should have been le er rated. $20 Item # c Edward ed by Toronto machine cancel (Feb 14) on die cut postcard to local address,properly paying 2c le er rate. The bo om of the bicycle rider is die cut with ssue paper added so that the bu s cks out. An amusing novelty but against the postcard rates for being die cut and an a achment that does not adhere completely to the card (rule 28). $50

4 Die Cut Item #6. 1c Edward on postcard (not ed) to Toronto with an added felt flower and die cut fold-out, against postal rules and not caught, or was delivered privately. $25

5 Material - Aluminum Item # Toronto (Oct 29) duplex es 1c Edward on die cut and aluminum rimmed postcard with central punched hole, all aspects against postal rules (not cardboard against rule 24, die cut rule 28). This item was caught and rated 2 c postage due, to Brooklin, Ont. $75

6 Material - Aluminum Item # Toronto machine cancel es 2c Edward on aluminum postal card to Hamilton. View is three scenes in Queen s Park. The note at the top states This card MUST be sent under cover only, Mailable as fourth class ma er under ruling of the Postmaster General. Not eligible for a postcard rate despite the postal card label, the aluminum postcard was sent at the 2c le er rate. Very few survive because the stamps o en fall off. Scarce. $100

7 Material - Fabric, Chipboard Item #9. 1c Edward ed by faint machine cancel (town unreadable) to Toronto. The postcard is made of a durable fabric which is against rule #24a The material is to be cardboard...or paper of such a consistency as not to hinder manipula on. The postmark was unclear proving the point of the difficulty to handle rule but it escaped being charged as a le er. $35 Item # Toronto machine cancel es 1c Edward on private post card made of thicker chipboard with veneer to allow an image to be drawn, to local address. This is an example of a non-cardboard postcard that met the rules regarding or paper of such consistency as not to hinder manipula on..

18 A achments - Mo on Cards Item # Toronto machine es 1c Admiral on postcard with die cut rays in a heart, and a free spinning wheel in the background that creates a pa ern when turned. A few red nes missing and a white twist e holds the wheel in place. This postcard breaks rule #28 nothing whatever may be a ached to a Post Card and should be le er rated and postage due. The postcard has an ar cle anout a train accident and a conductor having his leg crushed, and died during amputa on surgery. Sent at le er rate although engravings and photographs on very thin paper.. provided they adhere completely are allowed. Some mes newspaper clippings were charged as postage due. The urgent nature likely dictated paying the le er rate. $125
