1 A Halloween colouring book tutorial for ages 6 to 12 years. I made these 2 booklets a colouring books for trick or treat items for Halloweens for the local children. Both books measure the same size, I have simply used the 2 designs to suit particularly the girls who like softer, and not so scary images and the boys and girls who really enjoy that part of the Halloween Fun. I used Clare Walker s Background sheet, cup913032_79993, Halloween Black Cat Pattern, as the cover and the back for ach booklet. I printed the sheet onto both sides and trimmed the sheets, to the desired size. Each page is made from 80gsm white copy paper, and I have torn the pages edges and coloured them with either a green or an orange pen. I have used images from a variety of sources and all were collected when I was school and kindergarten teaching. I have added at least 20 images to each large booklet I have made, varying the difficulty and sizes of the images to suit the age appropriate receiver. I have copied the images onto white copy paper and used clear glue to attach each one allowing time for each page to dry well before assembling the booklet. I have used as the fronts of each book either Happy Halloween Spider Girl Card image, cup914615_43589, a design by Rebecca Mills Clip art or Happy Halloween Layered Topper, cup250987_96, a card front design by Anna Bajanyan. In the front and first page of each booklet I have used one of the images offered by Janet Giessi, cup818606_70151, Halloween Colouring cards Set2. 2 2 sheets of 120gsm white A4 card As many pages as you need to fill the book---- of 80gsm white copy paper. As many Halloween black and white Halloween images as you need to fill each booklet. A background of your Choice to print on both sides of each sheet at full A4 size.---- I have used Halloween Black Cat Pattern, cup913032_79993 Scissors or cutting tool, ruler, pencil, Colours green and orange permanent pens, a self- adhesive 2hole clip or similar, a little extra white orange and matching card, a punch, clear glue, white glue or red power tape. A bone folding tool (or similar) An Image to use as the front cover. I have used Halloween Spider Girl Card designed by Rebecca Mills Clip Art, cup914615_43589, on one of these and Happy Halloween Layered Topper, designed by Anna Babjyanan, cup250987_96 on the other. FOR EACH BOOKLET Step 1. Using 120gsm sturdy A4 white card, print the background sheet onto both sides and allow to dry after printing before measuring cutting and folding. 3 This is my template for scoring and folding the top of the back cover. adhesive clip. this does not include the markings for the self- FRONT COVER Step 2. Cut the front cover to measure 25cm x 21cm. Step 3. Attach the chosen image for the front cover. BACK COVER Step 4. Cut and trim the back cover to measure 30 x 21cm.You will now prepare the back section to attach the self- adhesive clip. (Or the type of clip you have chosen). I have used rings before, but I found they do not hold the book steady and tend to tear more easily. The Whispering Platypus Purchased from Page 3

4 Using a ruler and a pencil, mark the middle of the top of the inside of this back page. Then measure down 6.25cm, and make 2 marks exactly the width of 8cm. This is the width of a normal 2hole punch, and will be the centre point for your holes for the self-adhesive clip. Attach the clip matching the points onto the inside cover. If you are using rings, or a feed in clip, you will need to punch holes in the back cover at this point. I used an extra piece of matching card across the outside of the back to strengthen this area. Step 5. Write and Print the label for the front Cover. Step 6. Attach this to an orange backing sheet using power tape or clear glue, and set aside until the booklet is put together. Step 7. Score and Mountain fold the top edge of the back of the book, (This measures 30x 21cm) at 3cm and at 5cm. This forms the top width of the booklet and should hold at least 20 pages by using the 2hole clip to hold the pages together Step 8. Attach the front cover of the booklet underneath this fold over edge. Use white glue or red power tape to attach this. I have then stapled the edges and used an extra strip of matching card to cover the staples and strengthen the join before going onto step 9. Step 9. Attach the book label to the top of the front cover using red power tape or white glue Step 10. Open the booklet, so that you are looking at the inside of all the pieces, and using a strip of card cut at 21cm x 1.5cm, glue this along the inside section of the fold where it originally measured 2 cm. This will strengthen the top width of the booklet. Once you have done this, using a creasing tool, firm these Mountain folds once this additional strip is well attached and dry. 5 Step 11. Prepare the 24 x 20cm blank pages for the booklet, by creasing the margins and then tearing along the margins. Use the coloured pens to define the edges, punch the holes at the top of each page to match the clip the images. I have used the 2 images from Janet Giessi s design, cup250987_96, Halloween colouring card set 2 as the first and main images in each of the books. This photograph clearly shows how the self-adhesive clip is attached and used. Step 12. The Whispering Platypus Purchased from Page 5

6 Copy the images you have chosen onto these sheets or attach them using the clear glue, and allow to dry before attaching them into position. Now you have finished.
