6 APPLICATION INFORMATION Th SPX3940 incorporats protction against ovr-currnt faults, rvrsd load insrtion, ovr tmpratur opration, and positiv and ngativ transint voltag. Thrmal Considrations Although th SPX3940 offrs limiting circuitry for ovrload conditions, it is still ncssary to insur that th maximum junction tmpratur is not xcdd in th application. Hat will flow through th lowst rsistanc path, th junction-to-cas path. In ordr to insur th bst thrmal flow of th componnt, propr mounting is rquird. Consult hatsink manufacturr for thrmal rsistanc and dsign of hatsink. For xampl, TO-220 dsign: Assum that = 0V, = 5V, I OUT =.5A, T A = 50 C/W, θ HA = C/W, θ CH = 2 C/W, and θ JC = 3 C/W.
