25 C2 23 DTR.APT.ALW.03(ENG) 6. CONSTRUCTION 6.1. Measurement Prncples A sgnal from measurng sensor,.e. from thermometer resstor Pt100 or thermocouple, correspondng to measured medum temperature, s delvered to the nput of analogue-dgtal converter and converted to dgtal form. In dgtal form t s sent, through an optoelectronc galvanc barrer, to the mcrocontroller. The mcrocontroller reads measured values and, usng bult-n algorthms, calculates an exact value of temperature on the bass of these algorthms. Calculated value s shown on ntegrated LCD dsplay, whch can be confgured dependng on the needs (see p ). Dgtal value of measured temperature s converted to analogue sgnal [mA]. Bult-n modem BELL 202 and mplemented communcaton stack HART rev.5.1 allow for the communcaton wth the converter, usng PC computer and approprate software or communcator. The transmtter s output s ftted wth a rado-nose flter and other elements protectng aganst ESD. A block dagram of the transmtter s presented n Fgure 1. The APT... converters montors the operaton of ther measurng systems and the correctness of calculatons and n case when dscrepances occur they nform about an error dsplayng a message on LCD dsplay and generatng an alarm current n the current loop (dependng on confguraton). The measurng sgnal of sensor has a galvanc separaton from measurng lne. Thanks of that constructon the measurement susceptblty at nterferences s reduced as well as the enlarged safety of work n the Ex and flameproof applcatons Constructon The basc unts of transmtter are: sensor casng, sheld wth process connecton, measurng sensor and electronc unts, transformng sgnal from measurng sensor nto unfed output sgnal Transmtter casng A casng of APT... transmtter s made of hgh-pressure castng of alumnum alloy or (316) steel. It conssts of a body, two bolted covers (dsplay and electrcal connecton), cable nlets and plug wth M20x1.5 or ½ NPT thread. Insde the casngs s dvded nto two chambers, separated by a header. An addtonal header, wth a rbbon cable s ntended for transmttng a sgnal from temperature sensor to the nsde of a transmtter. The casng s equpped wth nternal and external earth termnals Electronc board wth dsplay The electronc board, along wth a dsplay, s nstalled n a housng made of polycarbonate, n the bgger of two casng s chambers, where t s possble to rotate t by 180 every 90. A connectng board wth termnal strp (fg. 2a) and the elements of nterference flter and protectng elements are nstalled n the second chamber Shelds of the measurng nsert Shelds of the measurng nsert type GB1, GN1, G1, T1 have a welded constructon (ntegral wth the transmtter) wth a wall thckness 1 mm. These shelds are desgned for drect mountng n mountng slots and contact wth the measurng medum. Thermowells type OG2.9, OG2.11, T1, SW1, SW2, SW1T, SW2T (Fg. 6) are an ntermedate element between the medum and the sensor measurng transmtter. 7. INSTALLATION OF TRANSMITTERS The APT 2000ALW transmtters can operate n any poston. Durng the nstallaton of temperature transmtters the casng of electronc system should be protected aganst exceedng of allowed temperatures. Sutable thermal covers should be used or the transmtters should be mounted n such a poston so the heat from medum does not heat up the casng. Transmtters wth sensor type WGB1 should be mounted n thermowells.

26 C2 24 DTR.APT.ALW.03(ENG) When the transmtters are mounted, partcularly n areas endangered by exploson, also the heat conducton of sensor metal casng and ambent temperature for ensurng proper work condtons and temperature classes should be taken nto consderaton. Data specfed n Appendx Ex are applcable for ntrnscally safe versons. Data specfed n Appendx Exd.ATEX or Appendx Exd.IECEx are applcable flameproof versons. 8. ELECTRICAL CONNECTION 8.1. General recommendatons It s recommended that twsted par cablng be used for the sgnal lnes. If the transmtter and sgnal lne are subject to a large amount of electromagnetc nterference, then sheld par cable should be used. The sgnal wres should not run alongsde network power supply cables or near to large electrcally-powered devces. The devces used together wth the transmtters should be resstant to electromagnetc nterference from the transmsson lne n accordance wth compatblty requrements. It s also benefcal to use ant-nterference flters on the prmary sde of the transformers, the power supples used for the transmtters and apparatus used n conjuncton wth them Wet or rsng damp nsde transmtter can cause ts damage. When the solaton of the wres n the packng gland s neffectve (for example, when sngle wres are used) the openng of the gland should be carefully sealed wth an elastc sealng compound to obtan IP66 protecton. It s useful to form the segment of the sgnal wre leadng to the packng gland nto a protectve loop to prevent condensaton from runnng down n the drecton of the gland Electrcal connectons The APT... transmtters are to be connected as shown n fg. 2a 2d. In APT... transmtters, a 240Ω resstor s permanently ftted n seres n the transmtter s current crcut and blocked up wth jumper between <SIGNAL > and <TEST > as shown n fg.2a and 2b. When the resstance n the current loop s lower than 240Ω t s necessary to jumper dsassemble to HART communcaton Protecton from excess voltage The transmtters may be n danger from excess voltage caused by connecton faults or atmospherc electrcal dscharge. Protecton from excess voltage between the wres of the transmsson lne s provded by TVS dodes nstalled n all types of transmtter (see the table, column 2) In order to protect aganst excess voltage between the transmsson lne and the casng or earth (not prevented by the dodes connected between the transmsson wres), addtonal protecton s provded n the form of plasma surge arresters (see the table, column 3). Also external protectve devces may be used, e.g. the UZ-2 Aplsens system, or others. When the transmsson lnes are long, t s advantageous to use one protectve devce near the transmtter (or nsde t), and another near entry ponts to other devces used n conjuncton wth t. Internal protecton of transmtters: Type of transmtter APT... (normal verson, Exd verson) APT... The nsulaton test voltages (500V AC or 750V DC) gven n refer to transmtters plasma surge arresters - such protecton s not used n Ex versons of transmtters Earthng The transmtters are ftted wth nternal and external earth termnals.

27 C2 25 DTR.APT.ALW.03(ENG) 9. SETTING AND REGULATION 9.1. Measurement ranges, Defntons Nomnal range The maxmum range of temperature, whch the transmtter can measure, s called the nomnal range (for specfcatons of nomnal ranges see secton 5.3). The wdth of the nomnal range s the dfference between the upper and lower lmts of the nomnal range. The nternal characterstc converson curve for the nomnal range s coded n the transmtter s memory. Ths s the reference curve used when makng any adjustments whch affect the transmtter s output sgnal Set range When the transmtter s n use the term set range s used. The set range s the range whose lower end-pont corresponds to an output current of 4mA and whose upper end-pont corresponds to a current of 20mA (or 20mA and 4mA respectvely when the converson curve s nverted). The set range may cover the whole of the nomnal range or only a part of t. The wdth of the set range s the dfference between ts upper and lower end-ponts.
