10 1 Functons Mechancal characterstcs The MarSurf M 300 s a compact surface texture measurng nstrument for moble use under shop floor condtons. The maxmum measurng range s 350 μm (0.014 n) (-200 μm to +150 μm) ( n to n). Wth the correspondng MarSurf RD 18 drve unt measurements can be performed n any measurng poston wthout the need for setup tmes. The maxmum traversng length s 17.5 mm (0.700 n). The nstrument s easy to use and comples wth DIN EN ISO The MarSurf M 300 and all Mahr pck-ups are balanced at the factory. For hgh-precson measurements usng the stylus method and subsequent checks, an automatc dynamc calbraton functon s avalable. A standard s ntegrated n the MarSurf RD 18 for ths purpose. 1 PHT pck-ups have an nnovatve open skd 1 that vrtually elmnates deposts of drt and ol. The bow-type vertcal adjusters 2 for settng the heght of the MarSurf RD 18 drve unt allow many dfferent forms of support (stable threepont support, four-pont support, e. g. for cylndrcal testpeces, combnaton wth the pck-up protecton, etc.) and make vertcal adjustment very easy. The rugged housng makes the MarSurf M 300 deal for operaton under severe condtons. The nstrument combnes an ergonomc desgn wth clearly arranged operatng elements and a large, easy-to-read LCD. Its compact form and low weght (approx. 1 kg / 2.21 lbs) make t deal for moble use. Thanks to the transport case and the shoulder belt, t s easy to carry around. The bult-n rechargeable battery offers enough capacty for several days work 3. The nstrument s AC adapter comes wth three exchangeable mans adapters, allowng the MarSurf M 300 and ts RD 18 drve unt to be connected drectly to the mans all over the world. Possble nstrument settngs All the functons supported by the nstrument are set out n a logcally structured menu. Instrument settngs can be blocked and also protected aganst unauthorzed modfcaton by means of a code number. The operator can swtch between ISO (DIN), ASME, JIS and MOTIF standards to select the traversng length and for evaluaton purposes. When measurements are performed n accordance wth ISO (DIN), ASME or JIS, the recorded profle s fltered wth a phase-correct profle flter (Gaussan flter) complyng wth DIN EN ISO A shorter cutoff can also be selected for ths purpose. Even nexperenced users can perform correct, reproducble surface texture measurements: If ths functon s actve, the nstrument detects perodc and aperodc profles and automatcally sets the standard cutoff and assocated traversng length n accordance wth DIN EN ISO patented 2 Patent pendng 6 3 The capacty s suffcent for approx. 1,000 measurements (dependng on the traversng length and the settngs n the "Record" menu). Mahr GmbH, MarSurf M 300 and RD 18

11 Evaluaton Most of the parameters stpulated n ISO (DIN), ASME, JIS and MOTIF are avalable to evaluate the measured profle (see Secton 5.3). 23 Settng the date The date s saved for each measurement. The format depends on the language selected. For "Englsh" t s "Month/Day/Year" (mm/dd/ yyyy). When prntng the record, the date can be output. When enterng the date, the order s "Day Month Year" (see text above the nput box) for all languages. When enterng the date, the key does not delete the character left of the cursor, but moves the cursor to the left. Settng the tme For every measurement, the tme s saved n the "Hour:Mnute" (hh:mm) format. When prntng the record, the tme can be output. When enterng the tme, the key does not delete the character left of the cursor, but moves the cursor to the left Measurng and Evaluaton Condtons n Accordance wth ISO/ASME/JIS To dsplay the measurng and evaluaton condtons n accordance wth ISO / ASME / JIS: 1. Open the "Measurng condtons" menu by pressng the key. 2. Press the 1 key to dsplay "ISO / ASME / JIS" n the respectve button. On the rght sde the measurng and evaluaton condtons n accordance wth ISO / ASME / JIS wll be dsplayed. Selectng the traversng length The top status bar (5) dsplays the length of the traversng length Lt, the length of the cutoff Lc and the number n of samplng lengths, e. g. "Lt=5.600mm (0.800*5)" (see Fg. 2). 1. Press the Lt/Lc key repeatedly untl the requred cutoff and the resultng standard traversng length are dsplayed. If "Lt=*****mm (******5)" s dsplayed for Lt and Lc nstead of a value and the symbol A appears to the rght, the automatc settng of cutoff and traversng length has been set. The length of the traversng length n accordance wth ISO, ASME or JIS s determned by the cutoff, whch s to be selected accordng to Table 2. Three cutoffs are avalable wth the MarSurf M 300. The cutoff defnes whch elements of the measured profle wll be attrbuted to roughness. Lt Lc n lm mm (0.250 * 5) mm (0.800 * 5) mm (2.500 * 5) n (0.010 * 5) n (0.032 * 5) n (0.100 * 5) mm mm mm n n n Tab. 1 Avalable traversng lengths (and cutoffs) n accordance wth ISO, ASME, JIS Usually the traversng length conssts of the pre-travel Lv, fve samplng lengths lr (= evaluaton length lm) and the post-travel Ln. The samplng lengths and the pre- and the post travel are exactly as long as the standard cutoff (see Table 2). Mahr GmbH, MarSurf M 300 and RD 18 19

24 If the automatc settng (symbol A) of cutoff and traversng length s swtched on, durng the measurement the nstrument frst checks f t s a perodc profle: Wth a perodc profle, the nstrument automatcally sets the standard cutoff and assocated traversng length accordng to the RSm value (see Table 2). Wth an aperodc profle, the cutoff and traversng length are set automatcally accordng to the Rz value (see Table 2). The settngs calculated for Lt and Lc are dsplayed n the top status bar after the measurement has been carred out. Swtchng the Ls profle flter on/off If the Ls profle flter s swtched on, the profle s fltered after the measurement wth a cutoff wavelength of 2.5 μm or 8 μm (100 μn or 320 μn), dependng on the traversng length. The Ls profle flter can also be swtched on and off n the "Measurng staton" vew. Swtchng profle nverson on/off Usually a profle s evaluated n the same way that t s measured,. e. profle peaks are also handled as such. However, for replca measurements profle nverson should be swtched on. Ths causes the measured profle to be mrrored on the dagram mean lne so that the evaluaton s based on a profle n the correct poston. If a profle s evaluated wth profle nverson, the profle type s dsplayed n the "Result" vew wth a mnus sgn (e. g. "R " or "P "). For the followng parameters, the measurng value s affected by profle nverson: Rp, RpA, Rpm, Rv, Rpk, Rk, Rvk, Mr1, Mr2, A1, A2, Vo, RPc, Rmr, tp, RSm, S, Rsk, R, AR, Rx, W, CR, CF, CL. Selectng the number of samplng lengths If standard traverse lengths cannot be used wth the testpece, n accordance wth the standard, the number n of samplng lengths can be reduced or ncreased. 13 If n 5, the symbol appears n the top status bar. By selectng a standard traversng length wth Lt/Lc, the number n of samplng lengths s reset to 5. Selectng the cutoff When evaluatng n accordance wth ISO, ASME or JIS, dgtal flterng generates the roughness profle from the measured profle. The phase-correct profle flter (Gaussan flter) s used. When evaluatng the parameters n accordance wth DIN EN ISO , the specal flterng method wth groove suppresson as per DIN EN ISO s used. The flter s characterzed by the cutoff. The cutoff s the wavelength Lc of a snusodal profle, the ampltude of whch wll be transmtted by the phase-correct flter to a level of 50 %. The cutoff defnes whch elements of the measured profle wll be attrbuted to the roughness. The cutoff and traversng length are selected together before the measurement by pressng Lt/Lc. DIN EN ISO 4288 states that the cutoff for standard measurements should be selected as follows: for perodc profles, accordng to the mean wdth RSm of the profle elements, or Rz (see Table 2). and for aperodc profles, dependng on Ra 13 If the automatc settng A of cutoff and traversng length s set, the number n of samplng lengths cannot be modfed. 20 Mahr GmbH, MarSurf M 300 and RD 18

25 In specal cases, the next shortest cutoff may be used nstead of the standard one requred by ISO The "Lc short" settng can also be mplemented after the measurement. 14 After the settng s made, the cutoff value s dsplayed n the top status bar (5) (see Fg. 2). When the short cutoff s swtched on, the symbol appears n the top status bar. If a standard traversng length s selected by pressng Lt/Lc, the short cutoff s deactvated agan. Selectng the length of the pre- and posttravel If standard traverse lengths cannot be used wth the testpece, the pre-travel Lv and posttravel Ln can be shortened 15. In the settng "Lv short" Lv and Ln are half as long as the standard cutoff. When the short pre- and post-travel are swtched on, the symbol appears n the top status bar.
