1 32E12SE BRADETTE 010 SEP l i 1974 PROJECTS UNIT REPORT ON GEOPHYSICAL WORK PERFORMED ON BRADETTE 1-73 BRADETTE TOWNSHIP LARDER LAKE MINING DIVISION BURNTBUSH RIVER AREA, ONTARIO SEPTEMBER 3, 1974 W.F. GRAHAM TIMMINS, ONTARIO NORANDA EXPLORATION CO., LTD. This report on the electromagnetic and magnetic survevs^is submitted under the Special Provision dated October 16, 1967, for credit^60 assessment work days per claim. The person in charge of the linecutting and geophysical work was Mr. W.F. Graham.
2 LOCATION BRADETTE 1-73 The property, which consists of 10 contiguous unpatented mining ^claims, numbered L inclusive, is situated in north central Bradette Township which lies approximately 60 air miles east of Cochrane, Ontario. Bradette Township is not surveyed into Lots and Concessions. ACCESS The property is reached by means of float plane in the winter to Rube Lake approximately 4 miles to the south and subsequently by snow mobile to the group. TOPOGRAPHY The property is characterized by flat f wet ground.. The bush is primarily ^alderl and black spruce. LiNECUTTING One, Base Line was cut due west from a point 900' due south of the #1 post of claim #L * Traverse lines were cut at right angles to the Base Line at 400 foot intervals. The Base Line and traverse lines were all chained and picketed at 100' intervals. In all, about 9*1 miles of line were cut, chained, and picketed. ELECTROMAGNETIC SURVEY The electromagnetic survey (field and office) was performed from Januar l? to September 3. The instrument used was a McPhar VLEM dual frequency unit capable of operation at 1000 cycles per second, 5000 cycles per second, or both frequencies simultaneously. The equipment consists of a transmitter and a receiver. The trans mitter is composed of a transmitter coil, transmitter console, and motor generator. The receiver is composed of a search coil, amplifier, clino meter, and headphones. The transmitter coil is energized by an alternating current produced by the motor generator, and resulting in the production of a primary mag netic field. This primary magnetic field links with any conductor in its
3 -2- producing an induced current which gives rise to a secondary magrotic field. At a given receiving station, the direction and magni tude of the primary field is altered by the secondary field. The direc tion of the resultant field is determined by means of the search coil with its attached clinometer. Measurements are made in terms of dip angles and are recorded in decrees. The plotting of the dip angles at both frequencies gives profiles which are useful in estimating the depth of the conductor axis, the dip of the conductor and its relative conduc tivity. The range of penetration is normally considered to be approximately one-half the separation distance between the transmitter and receiver, although other factors such as the conductivity of the overburden must also be taken into consideration. The results of the VLEM survey are shown on the prints accompanying this report. One long (over 6400*) and moderately to very strongly con " ductive zone was located &400- which extends from 4+00 South on Line 60 West to 1+00 North on Line-4 East. The conductor is open at both ends but it is much stronger on the east end. The high to low frequency ratios are very high indicating that graphite is at least contributing to the con ductivity. A short and weakly conductive zone, with poor conductivity extends 400' from 8+00 South on Line 20 West to 8+00 South on Line 24 West. Another strongly conductive zone was located at the extreme southeast corner of the claim group which extends from 9+00 South on Line 4 East to South on Line 8 West. The conductor is likely a portion of a much longer conductive zone. None of the conductive zones appear to have any magnetic correlation, MAGNETIC SURVEY The magnetic survey was conducted from January 15 to September 3, 1974 (field and office). The instrument was a McPhar Fluxgate M-700 magnetometer. J3ase readings were taken along the Base Line., and all readings were calculated relative to the base readings. Readings were taken at the base control stations at periodic intervals to discern day to day and diurnal drift. Any changes noted in the magnetic survey were then applied as factors and progressive adjustments were made to each reading taken dur ing that specific period of time.
4 -3- results of the magnetic survey are shown on the prints accompthis report. Background magnetics vary between 500 and 600 gammas. The highest magnetic intensity recorded is 1015 gammas located at 9+00 North on Line 32 West. That reading lies at the eastern end of a 1000' long and narrow zone of higher than background magnetics. ^There are no other significant fr?frnpt.i p. fp.at.nres other than a reflection of the East-West trending underlying rocks. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS The very long and strongly conductive zone without magnetic corre lation is very possibly a formational conductor containing graphite in part. The strongly conductive zone which crosses the southeastern cor ner of the property is probably a segment of a similar formation. Geological mapping should be carried out over the property with special emphasis on the conductive zone located. V W.F. GRAHAM NORANDA EXPLORATION CO., LTD.
