1 RHUMTY LAKE NTS 42D-14 z. ss?e LOWER AGUASABON LAKE 010 MINING LANDS SECTION INTJROpUCTION This report covers a VLF survey performed October 18 to October 28, 1976 on eleven (11) contiguous, unpatented mining claims in the Lower Aguasabon Lake area, Thunder Bay Mining Division, Province of Ontario. The claim numbers are as follows: PROJECTS UNIT One hundred percent (100?;) of all the above claims are currently held by Noranda Exploration Company, Limited, Box 45, Commerce Court West, Toronto, Ontario. LOCATION AND ACCESS The Rhumty Lake 1-76 property is located at approximately 48 55' latitude and 87 06' longitude, ten miles north of Terrace Bay. Access is from Terrace Bay by car or truck to mile nine of the Kimberly Clark road, and then by foot a long a path cut west to the property. GENE RAL - GEOLOGY; The property lies in a volcanic belt varying from acidic to basic in composition. Porphyritic acidic lavas in the north and south enclose a more basic agglomerate and tuff unit in the middle, all treding at 100. A diabase dike cuts across the central portion of the property at 15. Primary foliation varies locally between 90 and 100 dipping between 50 and 60 south. G RI D^ WO RK Immediately prior to the survey, a grid was established on the land segment of the property. A baseline was cut
2 ending 90 following the trend of the local geology. Wing lines spaced every 120m were established perpendicular to the baseline with stations marked every 15m. A tie line 39m south of the baseline was cut for control in the south- east. The total length of the lines, excluding baseline and tie line is km. Half the lines were cut by Nick Hibbart of Thunder Bay and the rest of the grid was completed by employees of Noranda Exploration Company, Limited. Kennco Limited previously held ground currently covered by the three southern claims of this property. was done but there is no evidence of drilling. VLF SURVEY PURPOSE Ground geophysics The purpose of the survey was to determine the location of any conductive zones, if present. COMPAN^ CONDUCTING THE SURVEY Geophysical operators employed by Noranda Exploration Company, Limited did the survey under the supervision of R. Grant Heavysege, geologist, who planned and is responsible for the survey. J5KN.S ITI V3 : TY^ AND^ JPROCEDURE The VLF survey was conducted using a Model 27, VLF receiver manufactured by Sabre Electronic Instruments, Limited. The survey data is obtained by one man. After turning the instrument on, he selects one of the four transmitter stations best suited for the survey (i.e. one which is along the direction of the geological strike and one which is transmitting at the time of the survey). At each station he holds the receiver in the horizontal position and rotates it in the horizontal plane until a null is observed. This aligns the receiver perpendicular to the transmitter-receiver direction. He then brings the re-
3 up to the vertical position and rotates the receiver in the vertical plane perpendicular to the transmitterreceiver direction until a null or minimum reading is observed on the field strength meter. While the instrument is held in the null position, the operator notes the reading on the inclinometer in degrees and records it along with its sign. The data is later reduced to a con tourable form using the Fraser filtering method. The transmitter stations used in this survey were Cutler, Maine and Seattle, Washington. A total of 1,019 readings were taken on 11 claims covering line kilometers excluding the baseline and tie line. vey. F RSULTS Several conductive zones were outlined from this VLF sur Little can be said of these conductors as the VLF-EM was the only survey done on the property. Zone A is composed of strong crossovers truncated to the west of line 500E and extending off the property to the east. This zone possibly continues to the more isolated Zone E in the southwest corner. Zone B, parallel to Zone A is also truncated to the west at line 480E and to the east it is truncated at line 1500E. The isolated conductors of Zone F provide a possible western extension to this zone. Zone C is the strongest conductor. It is truncated in the west at line 780E and suddenly in the east at line 1320E. Zone D is just as strong as C and down strike from it, extending off the property. Although line 1440E shows no anomalous values between these two zones, it is likely that they are related, possibly at a greater depth which wouldn't be detected by the VLF instrument. Zone G provides a possible western extension to Zone C. If not it could be a promising target by itself. All three zones, A, B, and C could be truncated around line 600E by a north-south fault seen as a linear in aerial photo graphs.
4 Several other isolated anomalies could prove to be quite interesting and will be checked during further work. All conductors appear to follow the strike of the local geology. The geology is yet to be mapped, however, due to early snow and no further explanation for these conductors can be given until such time as it is mapped. The conductors found from this survey appear quite promising and it is recommended that magnetometer and vertical loop EM as well as a geology survey be carried out in the coming year. Respectfully submitted, K. -O?. R.G. Heavysege, Northwestern Ontario Division, December 10, 1976.
