6 Final ADS-B Rule On May 27, 2010, the FAA published final rules contained in 14 CFR and ADS-B Out Only - which transmits precise location and other information about the aircraft to ground stations and other ADS-B equipped aircraft. The rule does not mandate avionics that enable other services available with ADS-B, usually referred to as ADS-B In You should note that current transponder requirements are not changed or affected by the ADS-B rule. 6

ADS-B Equipment Required GPS Source: Standards vary worldwide but an enhanced (TSO-C145 or TSO-C146) GPS will work anywhere *Transmitting Radio: An ADS-B qualified Mode-S transponder (1090 MHz) - or - [US only, below 18K Ft only] a dedicated ADS-B data radio (978 MHz) Simple Controls: Some way to enter a squawk code and verify that ADS-B is working

8 Final ADS-B Rule Class A, B, and C airspace All airspace at and above 10,000 feet MSL (mean sea level) over the 48 contiguous United States and the District of Columbia. Within 30 nautical miles of airports listed in 14 CFR , from the surface up to 10,000 feet MSL. Class E airspace over the Gulf of Mexico from the coastline of the United States out to 12 nautical miles, at and above 3,000 feet MSL. 8

9 Final ADS-B Rule With ADS-B In, aircraft outfitted with the necessary avionics can take advantage of broadcast services of important information such as graphical and textual weather products, traffic advisories, and other aeronautical information -- in the flight deck. 9

10 What about ADS-B In? Prerequisite - you must have a valid ADS-B Out system Currently FIS-B is being broadcast at all times however the FAA has indicated they will power down the ground stations unless they receive a valid ADS-B transmission Traffic is based upon the aircraft current location so an accurate ADS-B out transmission is needed to determine the exact location of the aircraft and therefore the traffic around the aircraft TIS-B traffic data is transmitted at both 1090 MHz and 978 MHz FIS-B graphical weather and other data is transmitted only at 978 MHz 10

USA ADS-B systems are running today in southern Florida Gulf of Mexico, Philadelphia, Louisville and Alaska are fully functioning and certified (which includes integration with multiple existing ATC automation systems) Fast roll out of additional capability follows - some 2/3 of the USA will be covered by the end of

20 Product Matrix Things to remember * Upgrades refer to non-tso hardware that can be upgraded to fully TSO hardware. The functionality will remain the same. i.e. A transceiver will remain a tranceiver and a transmitter will remain a transmitter. ** ADS-B Transmitter is ADS-B compliant if interfaced with an ADS-B Compliant GPS such as the FreeFlight Systems 1201 WAAS GPS *** At some point, the FAA will stop broadcasting all traffic and will only send customized traffic based upon your position. Without being compliant to the ADS-B mandate, you may not receive traffic. **** At some point, the FAA may reduce power on FIS-B broadcast if no valid ADS-B client is in view.
