1 UNIVERSAL ACCESS TRANSCEIVER. GENERAL This section covers the GDL UAT/ADS-B Transceiver. A. GDL UAT/ADS-B Transceiver - Serials w/ GDL The optionally installed GDL UAT/ADS-B Transceiver system consists of a Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) installed below the LH crew seat and a forward or aft antenna located on the bottom of the fuselage. The GDL is a universal access transceiver (UAT) that performs the following functions: UAT Transmission: The GDL transmits ADS-B OUT data on the 9 MHz frequency to be received by other aircraft, vehicles, and ATC for situational and traffic awareness. UAT Reception: The GDL receives ADS-B, ADS-R, and TIS-B data transmitted on the 9 MHz frequency from other aircraft, vehicles, and ground stations for traffic awareness. In addition, the GDL receives FIS-B data to provide graphical and textual weather products. Mode-S Extended Squitter (ES) Reception: The GDL receives ADS-B data transmitted by aircraft on the 090 MHz frequency for traffic awareness. Output of graphical traffic and weather data to the MFD and PFD (ADS-B IN). The GDL directly interfaces with the PFD, GIA 3W integrated avionics units, and Flight Stream 0 (if installed). VDC for GDL UAT/ADS-B Transceiver operation is supplied through the -amp UAT circuit breaker on Main Bus 3. The GDL UAT/ADS-B Transceiver is integral to the Perspective Integrated Avionics system. 2 . TROUBLESHOOTING Trouble Probable Cause Remedy No communication between GDL and PFD or GIA. UAT test set does not receive output from GDL. Aircraft does not receive generated traffic target from UAT test set. Software or configuration error. Disconnected or faulty wiring. Software or configuration error. Disconnected or faulty wiring. Check PFD alert window for GDL configuration, software, or failed data path error messages. Correct any errors before proceeding. Refer to the manufacturer s approved Instructions for Continued Airworthiness. (Refer to 0-0) Check wiring connections and antenna cable connections. 3 3. MAINTENANCE PRACTICES A. GDL UAT/ADS-B Transceiver Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) - Serials w/ GDL (See Figure 3-0) () Removal - GDL UAT/ADS-B Transceiver Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) (a) Set BAT, BAT, and AVIONICS switches to OFF positions. (b) Pull UAT circuit breaker. (c) Remove LH crew seat. (Refer to -0) (d) Remove bolts securing cover panel and lanyard assembly to fuselage floor. (e) Loosen knurled nut on LRU rack to detach LRU and remove from airplane. () Installation - GDL UAT/ADS-B Transceiver Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) (a) Slide LRU onto LRU rack and hand tighten knurled nut. (b) Position cover panel and lanyard assembly to fuselage floor and secure with bolts. (c) Reset UAT circuit breaker. (d) If LRU is a different unit from originally installed LRU: Perform Adjustment/Test - GDL UAT/ADS-B Transceiver Software and Configuration Loading. Perform Operational Test - GDL UAT/ADS-B Transceiver. (Refer to ) (e) If LRU is the same unit as originally installed LRU: Perform Operational Test - GDL UAT/ADS-B Transceiver. (Refer to ) (f) Install LH crew seat. (Refer to -0) (3) Operational Test - GDL UAT/ADS-B Transceiver (a) Acquire necessary tools, equipment, and supplies. Description P/N or Spec. Supplier Purpose UAT (9 MHz) Test Set - Any Source Test GDL UAT/ADS- B Transceiver..FIS-B testing capability is optional. (b) (c) (d) Connect ± VDC external power to external power receptacle. Pull STARTER, FUEL PUMP, and TRAFFIC circuit breakers. Set BAT, BAT, and AVIONICS switches to ON positions. Note: Aircraft GPS antenna must have unobstructed view of satellite constellation. (e) (f) (g) (h) (i) (j) (k) Using test set, verify GDL UAT/ADS-B Transceiver is transmitting aircraft position. Using test set, generate UAT or 090 MHz traffic target. Verify traffic target is displayed on traffic screen. If test set is capable, test FIS-B reception. Using test set, transmit sample METAR (FIS-B) weather. Verify METAR (FIS-B) weather is displayed on WPT - Airport Information page. Set BAT, BAT, and AVIONICS switches to OFF positions. Reset STARTER, FUEL PUMP, and TRAFFIC circuit breakers. Disconnect ± VDC external power from external power receptacle. () Adjustment/Test - GDL UAT/ADS-B Transceiver Software and Configuration Loading (a) Connect ± VDC external power to external power receptacle. (b) Pull STARTER and FUEL PUMP circuit breakers. GDL UAT/ADS-B Transceiver Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) Rack - Serials w/ GDL (See Figure ) () Removal - GDL UAT/ADS-B Transceiver Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) Rack (a) Remove GDL UAT/ADS-B Transceiver Line Replaceable Unit (LRU). (Refer to ) (b) Disconnect cables and wiring from GDL rack connectors. (c) Serials w/ GTS 00: Remove GTS 00 Line Replaceable Unit (LRU). (Refer to 3-0) Note: Nutplates may be secured to cabin floor surface with -minute epoxy. (d) Remove washers and bolts securing mounting brackets to nutplates and cabin floor. (e) Remove screws securing LRU rack to mounting brackets. (f) Remove retainer plates from slots in rack. Remove rack from airplane. () Installation - Garmin GDL Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) Rack (a) Install retainer plates into slots in rack. (b) Position mounting brackets to LRU rack and secure with screws. Note: Nutplates may be secured to cabin floor surface with -minute epoxy. (c) Position nutplates to installation area below cabin floor surface. (d) Install bolts and washers securing mounting brackets to nutplates and cabin floor. (e) Serials w/ GTS 00: Install GTS 00 Line Replaceable Unit (LRU). (Refer to 3-0) (f) Connect wiring harness and antenna cable to GDL rack connectors. (g) Install GDL UAT/ADS-B Transceiver Line Replaceable Unit (LRU). (Refer to ) Serials w/ GDL Page

GDL UAT/ADS-B Transceiver Forward Antenna - Serials w/ GDL and Forward Antenna (See Figure ) () Removal - GDL UAT/ADS-B Transceiver Forward Antenna (a) Set BAT, BAT, and AVIONICS switches to OFF positions. (b) Pull UAT circuit breaker. (c) Remove sealant from base of antenna. (d) Remove LH crew seat. (Refer to -0) (e) Remove left mid console circuit breaker trim. (Refer to -0) (f) Remove cabin floor covering. (Refer to -0) (g) Disconnect antenna cable from antenna. CAUTION: When removing antenna, do not damage tin-plated copper tape. (h) Remove washers and nuts securing antenna to fuselage. (i) Remove antenna and gasket from bottom of fuselage. (j) Remove remaining sealant from fuselage. () Installation - GDL UAT/ADS-B Transceiver Forward Antenna (a) With arrow on antenna facing forward, place antenna and gasket into position. (b) Secure antenna using washers and nuts. Tighten each nut until gasket material is evenly compressed on all sides of antenna. CAUTION: Ensure drain hole is unobstructed and free of sealant. (c) Connect cable to antenna. (d) Fillet seal antenna perimeter. (Refer to 0-0) (e) Install cabin floor covering. (Refer to -0) (f) Install left mid console circuit breaker trim. (Refer to -0) (g) Install LH crew seat. (Refer to -0) (h) Reset UAT circuit breaker. (i) Perform Operational Test - GDL UAT/ADS-B Transceiver. (Refer to ) Page Serials w/ GDL and Forward Antenna
7 D. GDL UAT/ADS-B Transceiver Aft Antenna - Serials w/ GDL and Aft Antenna (See Figure ) () Removal - GDL UAT/ADS-B Transceiver Aft Antenna (a) Set BAT, BAT, and AVIONICS switches to OFF positions. (b) Pull UAT circuit breaker. (c) Remove sealant from base of antenna. (d) Remove passenger seats. (Refer to -0) (e) Remove cabin floor covering. (Refer to -0) (f) Remove access panel CFC. (Refer to 0-00) (g) Disconnect antenna cable from antenna. CAUTION: When removing antenna, do not damage tin-plated copper tape. (h) Remove washers and nuts securing antenna to fuselage. (i) Remove antenna and gasket from bottom of fuselage. (j) Remove remaining sealant from fuselage. () Installation - GDL UAT/ADS-B Transceiver Aft Antenna (a) With arrow on antenna facing forward, place antenna and gasket into position. (b) Secure antenna using washers and nuts.
