1 Art Profile Newsletter - November 18 New Artists Karen Thomas Karen Thomas has Illustrated books in both England and the West coast of Ireland where she lived for ten years before returning to England to continue drawing her love of wildlife. She is a self-taught artist who has recently chosen to exhibit her art. She also works within mental health as an art facilitator, qualified counsellor and runs sessions on managing depression and anxiety whilst continuing to do private art commissions. Karen can offer demonstrations using a variety of graphite pencils and sticks plus mediums such as oils, pastels, line and wash and mixed media. She can produce large scale drawings (5 foot) if the venue has a suitable support or wall that she can work off. Based in Hertfordshire, Karen is willing to travel up to 50 miles (North of London) and also into Norfolk. Artists on the move Susan Neale Susan was with a BA. taught art has had 2 regular born in London and received my art training in Brighton and London where I graduated Hons in illustration. I later gained a PGCE from Huddersfield University. She was a commercial artist for over 20 years specialising in book and magazine work. Later she and design for several North of England colleges. She works mainly in watercolour and 'one man' shows and was part of the recent North Yorks Open Studio's scheme. She teaches and demonstrates at art clubs and is a professional tutor for the SAA. She believes good teaching is based on experience, planning, knowledge and communication, plus kindness, inspiration, empathy and lots of fun! Susan offers demonstrations and workshops in watercolour and combinations of watercolour, acrylics inks, watercolour pencils and collage. Susan is moving from Yorkshire to Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire. She is happy to visit group in Oxon and surrounding counties. Linda H Matthews - New Beginnings Arts profile demonstrator Linda H Matthews is in the process of relocating to live in L Herault in the south of France. She says Travel costs from Beziers in France will probably be the same or cheaper than her driving from Norfolk to Art groups, in various parts of the UK, for workshops and demonstrations and she has arranged dates for 2019 that link into other workshops. Visiting and exhibiting in the area of France, that is now home, for over fifteen years, it is still a daunting task to establish yourself as permanent and the structure of registering as a professional artist is very formalised. Attending workshops organised by French artists she has found herself the only English speaker there, My art French is going well, but normal everyday conversation is a bit slower, though improving. Taking a deep breath she entered her first French Plein Air painting competition in September in a nearby village. It was a day of Artists in the street, exhibiting, painting, with music, food and of course wine. Registering canvases in the morning we had until 5pm to hand in our finished piece. The brief was Coulobres, architecture and Nature I handed my canvas in went home for a shower and to pick hubby up for the evening meal and jazz band. We got back just as the speeches were being made, and to my astonishment the jury of six local artists and the village mayor awarded my painting A Coin Tranquille, Coloubres (A Quiet Corner, Coulobres) first prize. A real

2 boost to my France. Linda is still available confidence and acceptance by the local artistic community. New Talks and Sonia Bacchus - Demonstrations Talk on Polish Artists The 19th Century was very tragic time for Poland. Since 1895,Poland was partitioned between three empires: Russia, Prussia and the Austria Hungarian Empire, these countries violently suppressed any liberation movement on the Polish side and many Polish Artists had to emigrate elsewhere to countries such as France, Italy and Great Britain. The First world war brought liberation, so after 123 years Poland became a free country. This dramatic event had a very strong influence on the Polish art and culture, until the second world war Poland was a multicultural society, and melting pot where Asia meets Europe. This talk focuses on Polish artists such as Jan Matejko, Josef Chelmonski and Alina Szapocznikow. Sonia can provide all the equipment for this talk including an LCD Projector, Laptop and screen. Based in Stony Stratford, Sonia is happy to travel to most parts of the country with expenses. Abstracting the Landscape. Tony Homer. A workshop at Looe in Cornwall. Saturday 13th October. With storm Callum pounding the South West I was hoping to cross the Tamar bridge after road closures on Friday. It was great to get to the venue and see all the people had turned up for a 1 day workshop on Abstraction. They were so positive and supportive and asked lots of questions about technique, processes and the concepts behind abstraction. Everyone got engaged in the activity and l had a great time over the day learning lots about their passions for painting and ceramics. Tony is willing to travel 50 miles from Brighton, plus visit Devon and Cornwall John Horton I find Autumn an inspirational time to paint and inspire other artists through demos or workshops. Creating the illusion of mists, muted reflection and of course all the magical colours using lashings of cadmiums yellow and lemon, burnt sienna and magenta. Using 'wet into wet' techniques working flat into green washes yields wonderful blends of colour and effects heightened by use of contrast and shadow introducing blues into the colour mix. I always like where possible to tailor workshops and demos to the current season as inspiration is all around. John is happy to travel up to 100 miles from Worcs.

3 News - Upcoming Exhibitions Tony Parson Landscape and figurative painter, Tony Parsons has had his oil painting of Brighton's famous 'Penny Lift' accepted into the hallowed halls of the Mall Galleries in London after fending off hundreds of competitors for one of a handful of 'non-member spaces in the Royal Institute of Oil Painters Annual Exhibition 2018 running from 28 November 2018 to 9 December Brighton born and bred, Tony travels the country selling work to private collectors through art galleries. Tony's work is created exclusively in oil paint and about half of his output is created en plein air (on site, outside) so he is a regular sight on Brighton's streets. Tony also has a Artists Annual poignant as absolutely every year, painting of the Atlantic 85 class lifeboat in the current Royal Society of Marine Exhibition running at the Mall Galleries until 20th October. This is especially Tony is a volunteer Helmsman on the RNLI Brighton Lifeboat. Tony said "I'm thrilled! Like many professional artists I submit my best work to these exhibitions usually ending up in rejection. To get in twice in a row this year is total delight!" Tony is available for bookings within 50+ mile radius of Brighton Colin Brown Exhibition presented by Studio Prints. Colin will have an exhibition of his work at Studio Prints in Frome, BA11 1BS between 1st - 8th December 18. A new collection of impressionism Street Scenes all painted in acrylic. Subjects cover images from around the world as well as local towns and cities. Based in Frome Colin is willing to travel up to miles for demonstrations and workshops Peter Keegan - Royal Institute of Oils Painter Peter was very pleased to have this painting accepted in the Royal Institute of Oil Painters Exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London. The exhibition will run from 28th Nov - 9th Dec. Peter can offer a demonstration or workshop on painting portraits in this style. He is happy to visit groups in Beds, Berks, Bucks, Herts and Oxfordshire. Paul Weaver and Max Hale - Perspectives Exhibition Art Profile artists Paul Weaver and Max Hale will be exhibiting their work this month at Broad Hinton Village Hall, Wiltshire SN4 9RH. His work is featured in the November issue of THE ARTIST magazine, The drama of the coast. An

Chris is based in Dorking, Surrey and willing to travel 1 hour from home for demonstrations and workshops Do you fancy being on TV? In each show Three artists, whose skills could range from painting, metal work and embroidery to woodcarving and ceramics will get to look around a Mystery Buyers home for inspiration before pitching their ideas and creating something unique for the buyers but which one will they go for? Rather than spending money on off the shelf pieces from the high street this series will show how easy it is to commission local artists to create beautiful, bespoke art for the home. 6 Hi All Greek Painting Holiday with Debbie Hinks This is very exciting.
