1 The Patchwork Pipeline Baytown Area Quilt Guild a 501(c)(7) Organization/Social Club Volume 32, No. 2 February 2016 President s Pen Lisa Struthers February Program Delores Ellis Dear Fellow Quilters, February always seems like a long month to me. The colder weather makes quilting seem like a good idea, so I hope you are enjoying working with fabric as much as I have been recently. If you have not yet taken the opportunity to make the February block of the month, do so - it is an easy and quick block. You can see my first block on my Facebook page; why don't you put a picture of your block on Facebook, too (if you use the social media site, of course) to encourage others to make the block as well. I want to thank Lois Garrett for taking the Treasurer position for Please thank her when you see her, too. Some work is still needed in the financial area - two more volunteers to serve on the audit committee to review the 2015 finances. If you are able to meet with two others to go over the bank statements, deposits, and record-keeping of the last year, you will help ensure that our guild is using its finances responsibly. The Hospitality board position remains open; although Gina (who held the position in 2015) will continue to help coordinate, she does not always have the time to commit to this position at the monthly meetings. If you do, please let me know. I look forward to seeing each of you at our February meeting. Hospitality *Cristy Davila LaVerne Henderson Margie Story Pam Marek Vicki Ewell Pam Jones Jayne Clifton Karen Elizondo Gina Brown In February we will entertain Cindy Needham who lives in Chico, California. She is also known as the linen quilter or wholecloth quilter. Cindy is an international quilting instructor who creates exquisite one-of-a-kind heirloom wholecloth quilts out of vintage linens. She was honored to have won the Machine Quilting Teacher of the Year award in Over the last forty years she has had her articles published in prominent quilting magazines. Her book Wholecloth Linen Quilts was published six years ago and she now self publishes her handbooks. She has designed the Ultimate Stencil to aid quilters. Check Cindy and her beautiful work out by searching for her on "Craftsy. Also....A Reminder! Calling all quilters who participated in the Manay Sirois workshop "Twisted Ribbons." Please bring your finished or unfinished work to "show and tell" It will be fun to see everyone's fabrics! Don't be a party pooper!! 3 Page 3 Membership Annette Kuder I want to thank those of you that renewed your membership in January and I look forward to getting everyone else renewed between now and February. There were 56 members and 3 guests at our January meeting. New members this month include Becky Bradley, Sue Jeffco, and Suzy McLain. The membership table can be a little crazy during January and February and I really appreciate your help in making our guest and new members feel welcome and showing them around our meeting room. Our directory will be printed and handed out at the March meeting. Upon renewing your membership for 2016 you should have been given a new membership card. If you did not receive your new card please stop by the membership table in February and we will see that you get it. For those that renewed by mail you should be receiving your new card via mail. Have you been wondering why there is an E or an M next to your date of birth when we print the directory? If so you should know that this signifies how you have elected to receive the guild newsletter. Due to postage rates it is very beneficial in keeping our membership cost down if we can you the newsletter. If you see an M next to your date of birth and would like to change your receipt of the newsletter to please let me know and we will get our records updated. Please add new members to your directory.
