March Quilter s Guild of Parker County Grace First Presbyterian Church 606 Mockingbird Lane, Weatherford. TX Upcoming Programs & Events March 19, :00 PM Meeting Speaker Froncie Quinn ~ ~ Remember to Wear a name tag Bring a friend Bring show and tell Bring food for Center of Hope At retreat I spent 4 days with some of our members enjoying the art that brings us together. There was an energy and happiness that was evident from sharing ideas, praising each other s work, and laughing at tricks being played. I heard talk of families, grandchildren, pets, current and former careers, future quilting projects, and when members joined the guild. So this got me to thinking: If the guild was a quilt what would it look like? We would need a pattern. This would be the leadership and examples of charter members, past presidents, board members and all those members who have established the purpose and bylaws of the guild. Our quilt would have a center appliqued block. To do an applique block you need preparation of many pieces to make the whole, very detailed stitching and many hours of work. Our board members do this every month with managing our finances, serving as committee chairs for fund raisers like auction, quilt show and raffle quilt, making comfort quilts, and lining up programs and workshops. We also have many friendship star blocks. These are members who serve as greeters and the front sign-in desk who makes our members and visitors feel welcome. We have those special people who form bees and teach others the skills of quilting. Then we have traditional blocks that are made up of the 4 patches, 9 patches and other pieced blocks. These members go about quietly just holding us together. They do many little things that may not be noticed. They love the guild, attend meetings, and volunteer to do work as needed. They give of their time, donations, and talents. We love those traditional blocks! To add a little spice we will add a modern block. When we get new members we see their excitement and eagerness to join in. They may not know the technical aspects of quilting yet, but they are eager to learn, go to workshops, and think in new directions. And lastly we will border our quilt with flying geese. These are members who keep us together and keep us going forward. The members make the guild and I think we are a super group working together. What a beautiful quilt. I will let you draw the picture. Love and blessings, Myra Hall

The Take it for Ten and the $1 raffle is still in need of items. Special Projects - Andrea Killius - The Center of Hope is still in need of canned foods, but no green beans. Myra read several of the notes. Programs - JoLynn O Neil - March we will have Froncie Quinn. Brodere Perse will be the lecture. She will have a workshop on the Sat following our guild meeting and will be teaching hand piecing. April is our auction. In May we will have Tricia Cribbs of Turning 20 fame. Judy Fitzgerald moved that the meeting be adjourned and was seconded by Sue Haupt. Motion carried Respectfully submitted by Judy Fitzgerald for Anita Ruthenberg, Secretary.

March Program This month we have the honor of hosting Froncie Quinn as speaker for our meeting. Froncie is from New London, New Hampshire. We are in for a real treat as Froncie shares a trunk show and history or her time reproducing patterns from several quilt museums including the Shelburn Museum, The Lancaster Museum and the New England Quilt Museum. Froncie has produced fabric lines from the Shelburne Museum quilts for RJR fabrics. She has also written patterns for C & T Publishing for the Enduring Grace; Quilts from the Shelburne Museum Collection. Froncie currently has 17 museum reproduction patterns and has more to come. She will be bringing a trunk show to share with us and certainly lots of history about quilt history. Unfortunately the workshop with Froncie had to be canceled because we did not get enough people to sign up. April Program In April we will be having the annual auction. There will be lots of quilts up for purchase in the live auction as well as a Take it for $10 table and a dollar raffle. Please invite your family, neighbors and friends as this is an important fund raiser for our guild. All items for the auction need to be turned into Mary Williams by the board meeting April 2 nd. On Thursday April 16 th we will be meeting at the church at 2pm to begin setting up for the auction. Please contact Mary Williams to volunteer. She will need help, before, during and after the auction. May Program At the May program we will be hosting Tricia Cribbs of Graham, TX. Tricia is the designer of the Turning Twenty quilts and patterns. She will present us with a trunk show of her fabulous quilts and share her history of quilt making and designing. Tricia is currently working on more hand and machine embroidery designs and I am sure she will have lots of goodies for purchase so mark your calendar!

Membership Looking forward to seeing each of you at the March Guild meeting. Don't forget to wear your name tags and bring a guest! We will have the 2015 Membership Directory so be sure to pick one up when you sign in. If you haven't picked up your membership card we have those ready also. See you on the 19th. Yvonne and LeeAnn QUILT AUCTION Check out our auction quilts on the auctioneer s website at Remember that the deadline to turn in your completed quilt is April 2. You can give it to MaryWilliams or Debbie and Rex Shrauner or drop it off at Quilting Around quilt shop. Please remember to put a label on your quilt. We have received many great items for the Take It For Ten and the Dollar Raffle, but take another look around and turn in your donation to Andrea Killius or Judy Fitzgerald by April 2. Thank you for your generous donations! If you have questions, please call Mary ( ).

2015 Retreat What a great way to spend a snowy weekend but at Retreat. Everyone just sewed, watched the snow and did a lot of talking. It is the first time I ever got two quilts put together. All 24 of us worked on the Auction Quilts and made over a hundred blocks. We played Quilt Bingo and had three blackout winners. Saturday night we had our big Show & Tell and what beautiful quilts were shown. Thanks all for making it a great Retreat. Andrea Killius Center of Hope Please help support the Center of Hope for March. Their wish list is the same as last month for canned meat, tuna, canned veggies (no green beans), soup, chili and small bottles of toiletries (deodorant, shampoo, soap, etc). Thank you for your February donation. The drop off box will be as you come into the meeting. Remember the Center relies on donation to help feed their clients.

WORKSHOP NEWS Workshop for March was cancelled due to lack of interest. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU A huge Thank You to everyone that made our Comfort Quilt Sew-In a great success. We sewed and cut and pinned and had a great time visiting with everyone. There were over 20 quilts turned in that day and many more projects were started or taken home for future completion. A great deal of the fabric we had on hand was distributed and that helps with our storage problem. I hope you will continue to work on comfort quilts throughout the year from your own stash as you are able. There are still some kits that I will have at the regular meetings and also some backing fabrics. Batting will also be available as needed.

Show and Tell What a wonderful Show and Tell we were treated to after our February Comfort Quilt Sew-In. We were shown 26 regular show and tells and 11 Valentine and Mardi Gras theme quilts! Below is a list of the planned themes for our Show and Tell contest: March April May June July August September October November December Irish chains, Texas Independence and The Quilting of the Green (Quilts with green being the dominant color) No Show and Tell (Auction) We ll add April to the May themes Easter, April Showers, and May Flowers quilts Wedding Ring quilts and Graduation quilts 4th of July quilts A Day at the Beach quilts Labor Day quilts and Autumn Leaves quilts Halloween quilts Veterans Day quilts and Thanksgiving quilts Christmas quilts Please remember that the theme quilts are in addition to any regular quilts you wish to show.
