1 Columbia River Gorge Quilters Guild President s Message: It s November already??!! Yes, it is the month for giving thanks I ve already seen the daily thankfulness postings on Facebook. Since I don t get to send out a daily post to you all, I am going to condense my thoughts into one BIG list. First, I am thankful for ALL the volunteers who helped make our Quilt Show such a success. For the set up crew, the market and boutique workers, the demonstration volunteers, the membership and entry desk folks and especially for the take down crew, I am grateful! I am very thankful for the brave folks who came to see the show in spite of horrible weather and potential landslides on the freeway. I cannot thank our sponsors enough - those good folks who donated money for our prizes. I am thankful for our vendors who were willing to come to our small show and show their wares. (I even saw them shopping at each other s stalls.) l am also thankful for the many quilters who share their talents through making comfort quilts for our community. As president of the guild, I am grateful for the many folks who step up to be an officer or run a standing committee our guild would collapse without those folks! I am thankful for all our members - I am always cheered by the love and laugher I see when a group of quilters get together at meetings, classes, retreats or sew-ins. When people ask me why I quilt, I have two answers. One, I enjoy the act of creating something by sewing. More importantly, I have made dear friends through quilting over the past 35 years that I cherish more than any quilt I ve made. It doesn t get any better than that. Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Quilting! Kim Vogel, President Next Meeting - November 18, 2017 Registration: 9:30 am Where: Grace Baptist Church Meeting: 10:00 to 12:00 noon 1280 W. Linda Cope lindacope24@embarqmail.com, A Beautiful, Colorful Show! Our Quilt Show was truly THE BRIGHT SPOT in the Gorge on two of the dreariest, soggiest days of the fall season! So much color so many beautiful quilts! We kept hearing compliments all day, both days from our wonderful visitors. THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU VOLUNTEERS! More than 50 of you were there to help make this show possible. Your welcoming smiles and friendly attitude make our show a fun, exciting, happy place for our visitors. And a special thank you to all those husbands, sons and grandsons who lent their time and muscle for set-up and take-down! A personal thank you to Anne Marie Martin, our Quilt Gatherer whose legendary attention to detail is the force behind the accuracy of the information on each quilt and the loving care they receive from dropoff to return. David Martin, our director of show set-up and tear-down, gets a standing ovation for once again being there with his truck, trailer and expertise to make loading and moving our show equipment efficient and safe for all. Pat Gayman, our new Quilt Market Chair, who with the help of her merry band of volunteers, expertly handled logistics of collecting, sorting, pricing, displaying and selling all the donations that attract our visitors each year! And a special thanks to Pat s son for helping with the heavy lifting to get it all loaded and moved in and out! Gini Bright, our Boutique Chair, and her volunteers created an inviting, open feeling to our new consignment booth this year, artfully displaying all the handmade items and quilts. Rhonda Harris, for making us all a little sweeter on set-up day with her delicious array of specially prepared treats. The apple cake was definitely the star of the spread this year! Jackie Rosier, Pat Pauly, and Mary Calahan for taking care of the details that make our show run smoothly. And a special thanks to Jean Stone who arranged for some much appreciated man-power this year. The Quilting demos were enthusiastically received by our visitors. Thank you to all of you who spent time chatting and sharing your projects and skills with the continuous stream of folks who stopped by our demo booth.
