2 Our History: 40+ Years and Going Strong Borcherdt Concrete Products Limited was established in 1974 by Tom Borcherdt, with a one-bag mixer, a few rickety wooden forms, an old truck with a boom mounted on the front that served as a crane, and a 3-ton delivery truck. In the beginning, Tom focused mostly on supplying septic tanks and well rings to southwest Nova Scotia. With only one pipe producer in the province at the time, He soon expanded into manholes and small pipe sections.

3 Our History: 40+ Years and Going Strong In 1979, Tom built a new plant, which Borcherdt Concrete Products Limited still occupies. Originally a 40-by-80-foot manufacturing facility, it has since more than doubled in size. By the mid 80s, Tom expanded the operation to include a variety of custommade architectural precast concrete products, including an extensive assortment of window sills, wall bands and lintels for projects throughout the Atlantic Provinces (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland).

4 Our History: 40+ Years and Going Strong Tom s big break came when he was awarded the School of Business at St. Mary s University, called the Sobey Building. The project consisted of 600 pieces including: architectural panels; curved sections; banding; columns; wall caps; and column covers; using white marble aggregate and white concrete which was produced over a six month period. For Tom this was a real showcase which put him on the map architecturally.

5 Our History: 40+ Years and Going Strong Over the next 20 years Tom completed an assortment of complex architectural projects including window sills, cornices, and arches. Borcherdt res the Maritimes leading producer of ancillary precast products such as window treatments, bullnoses, cornices and precast bleachers.

6 Our History: 40+ Years and Going Strong In 2007, after 33 years in business, Tom decided to sell his company to Pennecon Limited, enabling him to concentrate on his health and his passion, Motorcycle racing.

7 Our History: 40+ Years and Going Strong In December of 2008, the OSCO Group purchased the Nova Scotia-based ready-mix concrete, precast concrete, aggregate and rebar businesses of Pennecon Limited.

8 The OSCO Construction Group: Borcherdt Concrete s parent company, the OSCO Construction Group, is a collection of companies operating in steel, concrete and construction. The OSCO Group has been in business since 1955, and serve a variety of markets throughout Canada, the Eastern US, and the Caribbean.

21 Dedicated Sales & Customer Service In an ongoing effort to continue the growth of Borcherdt Concrete products, Steve MacDonald was recently promoted to the position of sales associate. Steve began his career with Strescon in July of 1998, as a Quality Control Inspector during the Halifax Casino project. Over the next few years, Steve was trained as a concrete quality control lab technician and batch plant operator as well. From there, Steve moved on in 2003, to become Production Coordinator, working with precast production and project management to schedule and track daily production for various precast and concrete pipe operations. In March of 2007, Steve was promoted to the Project Manager position where he was responsible for the overall manufacture and delivery of precast/prestressed concrete products to the client or general contractors. In this role, Steve worked closely with architects, consultants and engineers to ensure all aspects of the project were executed safely and efficiently. In accepting this new challenge, Steve looks forward to another chapter in his career with the OSCO Construction Group. Developing new clients and markets for the various precast specialties Borcherdt is renowned for, will be rewarding and represent yet another learning experience.
