1 SHELANTI PRIVATE SCHOOL WEEK th - th September THIS WEEK I LEARNED... In light of Arbour Week, Mrs Kempen introduced the learners to the Tall Trees personality profiles. Here's what each profile entails: 1. Dear Intermediate Phase parents, please check your child's homework book for a notification regarding Parent Meetings. Some parents have been requested to make appointments to discuss their child's progress report. For others, it is not necessary. For these parents, you are still welcome to make appointments should you wish to do so. Please note: NO GRADE 5 MEETINGS WILL BE HELD THIS TERM BUT RATHER CARRIED OVER TILL NEXT TERM. The link for the Google Booking form will be sent out between today and tomorrow.

2 2. Foundation Phase parent meetings are compulsory for ALL Foundation Phase parents. NO optional meetings. Introducing, our Shelanti Homework diary! This diary will be compulsory as of 2019 for all Intermediate Phase learners and will replace the current A4 diaries. This diary comes complete with all the forms needed for the front of the homework books. These forms were previously printed and pasted in. The homework book will ensure that both time and paper are saved. The diary comes at a cost of R100 and will be added to your next invoice. GRADE NEWS Mrs Smit's Grade 5 class had a blast creating their own pyramids last week and finished them up this morning. Watch this space next week for photos of the finished product!

3 MINICHESS This week at MiniChess, Level 1 learners revised the King, the Pawn and the Rook by packing out the pieces and their blocks on the chess board. Level 2 learners finally got to make their Lewis Chess Men puppets! Level 3 learners practised some mistakes in the opening game. So far they have learned about making too many pawn moves as well as playing on the flanks. Thank you to Liam and Addison Friel for bringing their special chess boards to school to show the class!

4 ENTREPRENEURS DAY Thank you to our Grade 7's for such a wonderful Entrepreneurs Day. Here are a few pictures of the items that were on sale on Friday!

6 HELP THE RURAL CHILD Help the Rural Child will be visiting our school again tomorrow in support of Little Libraries. Books prices start at R20. If learners donate a book (R20 book per donation) to Little Libraries they are permitted to wear their Kindness Tshirts and Phys Ed bottoms tomorrow. SOCIAL MEDIA AND SA9ETY In light of the recent spike in abductions, we would like to request that you read and sign the attached policy with regards to sharing of photos on our Social Media platforms. This form would then replace the ones signed upon enrolment.

7 MEDICATION POLICY Shelanti prefers not to have a month s supply of medication on the premises and requires a pill dispenser for weekly use. This dispenser must be clearly labelled with the name of the learner, dosage, and time to be administered. It must be filled at home. You also need to send a copy of the doctor s prescription. A letter of consent has been sent to ALL parents, to be completed whether your child is on medication or not. If your child is NOT on medication, simply draw a line through the document, sign it and return to school. NO medication will be borrowed from another learner. Only medication authorized by a medical practitioner may be administered by school personnel. It is the parents responsibility to notify the school when there is a change in medication. It is the parents responsibility to provide all supplies, medication and/or equipment necessary for the administering of any medication(s), and to collect from the school any medication not used during the specified period.
