A strong emphasis will be placed on individual instruction and teaching the fundamentals of passing, dribbling, shooting and defensive basketball. The camp is directed by members of the Knights basketball coaching staff and current players. Please register prior to camp. No walk-in registration will be accepted.
3 ARCOLA ELEMENTARY SUMMER CAMPS Registration Opens April 13 at 9:00pm ALL CAMPS ARE CHARGED A $6 PTA REGISTRATION FEE. This $6 fee is paid online at the time of registration and is non-refundable unless the class is canceled due to low enrollment. Grade classification Rising indicates the grade a student will be in next fall. For example, a current 1 st grader is considered Rising 2 nd. Brain Cramp Camp The purpose of this camp is to enrich student thinking potential in an atmosphere designed for discovery. Through active engagement, students are challenged in novel ways to think outside the box. Students will learn to generate and expand on their ideas. The camp is filled with continuous activity and group competition supported by individual progress and motivators. This program will utilize a time-tested chess curriculum that is popular in European countries that are considered the very best in the world. Students will become better decision makers, stronger problem solvers, and achieve more of their goals through enhanced cognitive abilities acquired in their chess enrichment program. Complete beginners will learn the basic moves and rules of the game. When kids are ready, they will study basic tactics and strategy. Professional chess coach/chess expert will discuss how the legends and masters of the games think and play during an actual chess game. There will be a highly-interactive class discussion utilizing the most powerful chess software/database. Kids will be given an opportunity to play against other kids who are about their age or skill level. Each student will receive a chess workbook/handouts in a binder. After this camp, students will be ready to join a US-rated chess tournaments. Beginner class is designed for students who have no knowledge of the chess game or for those who are not sure about all the basic chess rules like 3-fold repetition, en passant, stalemate, checkmate patterns, 50-move rule, and chess notation. Intermediate class is designed for students who are knowledgeable of the rules and have been to tournaments, camps, and after-school programs. 4 Chess Camp Scholastic Chess Preparation This is to prepare kids for a U.S. scholastic chess tournament. This summer chess camp program will prepare students on how to understand the intricate mechanics of chess and to make sure that participants get the best available resources in preparing for chess competition and improve their chess knowledge, tournament results, and chess rating. The coach in this program is an active tournament player who is fresh from the World Open Chess Championship and will share to you the latest and most reliable opening system for both black and white that can help you achieve solid performance in scholastic chess tournament. Kids will learn the basics of chess endgames (opposition, rule of square, key squares, zugzwang, Lucena and Philidor Positions etc.). The coach will advise you on how to study chess on your own including chess book recommendations to use after the camp. This will be a highly-interactive class discussion utilizing the most powerful chess software/database. Kids will be given an opportunity to play against other kids who are about their age or skill level. Each student will receive a chess workbook/handouts in a binder. Campers expand their imagination and explore the worlds of clay and video making. This self-paced camp is for campers who want to explore the world of "stop animation". Campers will work to design their own stories, create clay figures, take digital photos, and work on computers to edit their work ending in a short video. Campers with or without animation and video editing skills are encouraged to enroll. Campers should bring a packed peanut-free lunch from home each day of camp. Everyday campers will be given the opportunity to work with supplies to construct a project to take home with them. Each camper will make at least five projects to take home and put on display. 6 Drama Camp Disney s 101 Dalmatians Kids In a loving home in the city of London, Dalmatian parents, Pongo and Perdita happily raise their Dalmatian puppies, until the monstrous Cruella De Vil plots to steal them for her new fur coat. All the dogs of London join in the daring rescue of the puppies from Cruella and her bumbling henchmen. Set to kid-friendly music of the classic Disney favorites, Arcola's adaptation of this classic favorite will come to life! Create wallets, purses, lunch bags, pencil bags and much more with different patterns of duct tape. There is no limit to what can be created with a roll of duct tape. Each day campers will use duct tape, their imagination and their creativity to construct a new project. During the camp, each camper will make between 4 and 5 projects (May be more). It is required that each camper bring 2 rolls of tape to add to the tape provided by the instructors. Play games that will challenge your mind, such as Rush Hour, Sudoku, Head Bands, and many more. Each day campers will break into groups and play their choice of a wide variety of games.
