2 MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL Dear St. Agnes School Parents, St. Agnes School lost a very beloved former teacher on Monday. Sr. Margaret Joanne Grueter passed away Monday afternoon after a lengthy battle with cancer. Sr. Margaret was well-regarded among her students and we have all reflected upon all of the joy that she brought to our school. The schedule of services for Sr. Margaret is as follows: Visitation: 4:00 p.m.-6:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at the Aquinas Center, Sacred Heart Convent, 1237 W. Monroe St. in Springfield. The visitation will begin with a prayer service. Funeral Mass: 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2019, at Sacred Heart Convent Chapel with Father Peter Witchousky, OP and Father Clinton Honkomp, OP, celebrants. Morning Prayer, Remembering, and Final Commendation: 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 5, 2019, at Sacred Heart Convent Chapel. Our current 7th and 8th graders were students of Sr. Margaret s during her tenure at St. Agnes and many will be attending the service on Friday. Our heartfelt prayers go out to all of her family. She will be missed but her spirit remains among us. Seventh Grade Retreat Yesterday I had the pleasure of spending the day with all of the Springfield Catholic School 7th graders. Kyle Holtgrave, diocesan director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry, facilitated the event and Patty Schneier, a speaker on our Catholic faith, shared her life story about becoming closer to God and affirming her belief. The students were reminded that God is always there, no matter the situation, and that He will always forgive. Fitness Fun Day Our Fitness Fun Day will take place tomorrow morning from 8:15-11:00 a.m. for our Fitness Fun Day. Representatives from CITA, Springfield Park District, Girls on the Run, WERQ, Midwest Rehabilitation, YMCA, and Doug Ludolph will be here in various locations on the school grounds and will have physical activities in which the students can take part. Students are allowed to dress in fitness clothes (sweatpants, joggers, sweatshirts, t-shirts, tennis shoes - no shorts as the activities will take place outside and it will not be warm enough to wear those). This day has been arranged and planned by Jen Graves, our Parents Club President and Mrs. Mosher, our P.E. teacher. Many thanks to them for putting together a morning of physical activity for our students. Super Service Saturday Over 60 parents and students have signed up to assist with our Super Service Saturday that will take place this Saturday, April 6 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Thank you, in advance, to all of those volunteering to spruce up our school and church. Carrie Harrison, School Board President, and Ryan Dillon, Head of Maintenance, will supervise this day. Many thanks to both of them!! Re-registration for Re-registration forms for the school year were due on Monday, April 1st for families who are currently in the school. These forms were sent home on Monday, March 4th. If you have not had a chance to return these, please turn them in ASAP! Planning for a new year has begun. Please contact me if you will not be returning to St. Agnes as this makes a difference in staffing and ordering student textbooks and supplies. Families 2

4 ABSENTEES Each parent/guardian is required to notify the school office by 8:30 a.m. if a child will be absent that day. Homework requests may be made at this time. Parents can always leave a message on the school answering machine if the secretary cannot be reached. The answering machine is checked regularly.
