Hi, I m Paul Drayton and I m the PTA Treasurer again this year. My younger son, Daniel, is in Mrs. Hillebrand s second grade class and my older son, James, is at Hill Middle school in seventh grade. My wife and I have lived in Ivy Ridge for over 10 years now, and I ve been walking my sons to Cowlishaw for seven years, longer than I went to my own elementary school! My wife grew up in Jamaica and I grew up in New Zealand, and we met at graduate school in California. Before I became treasurer I didn t realize how many ways the PTA helped out the school, from funding assemblies, subsidizing field trips, running room parties, to giving grants to teachers to buy extra materials for their rooms and the library. The treasurer also gets involved in most of the PTA events, and it has been a wonderful experience meeting the parents, grandparents and teachers that volunteer for the PTA. There are so many people that give generously of their time and talents Proudly Brought To You By The PTA!!! EveryChild.OneVoice each year to make sure our children have the chance to receive the best educational experience at Cowlishaw. The last two years have been tough economically, and the Cowlishaw PTA has not been immune. The PTA board was very thorough with the budget this year, looking for opportunities to cut costs and increase income. We re now half way through the financial year and the income is on track, and our expenses a little less than budgeted. It is my hope that this will continue and we can end the financial year with a small surplus, which will be the first time in three years that we have not had to use our dwindling reserves. I encourage you to keep cutting out those box tops, become a PTA member, come to a fundraiser event and continue to support the Cowlishaw PTA. I hope that this letter finds you and your family warm, healthy and free from the nasty cold that is going around. Cowlishaw Skate Night at Aurora Skate Center Bring the family and meet your friends at the Aurora Skate Center for roller skating on Wednesday, February

Snacks are available for purchase. All ages are invited. Admission: $5 for skaters. Spectating parents/grandparents welcome at no charge.

Inline skates are allowed if clean and carried in and not worn in the parking lot when entering. http://www.skateaurora.

2 Cowlishaw Skate Night at Aurora Skate Center Bring the family and meet your friends at the Aurora Skate Center for roller skating on Wednesday, February 15 from 6-8pm. Located at 34W113 Montgomery Rd, Aurora. There will be Disney Radio themed music, skate games, and races. Snacks are available for purchase. All ages are invited. Admission: $5 for skaters. Spectating parents/grandparents welcome at no charge. Skate rental: regular $2, speed $3, inline $4. You can bring your own skates, they must be approved by Aurora Skate Center. Inline skates are allowed if clean and carried in and not worn in the parking lot when entering. 25% of sales of admission, skate rentals, skate mates, snack bar and novelty shop will benefit the PTA. Hope to see you there. This event is so much fun for the kids! The following waiver will need to be printed and brought with you, or sign Aurora Skate Center s waiver at the door. I, Parent/Guardian of agree to hold harmless Cowlishaw School and PTA during the skating party to be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at the Aurora Skate Center. Our final project of the year will be a Sock Drive to collect NEW socks, underwear, and undershirts in all sizes, for children and adults. The drive will run the week of February 6-10.

Your child needs to complete six hours (360 minutes) of reading for fun to earn a FREE admission ticket to Six Flags Great America.

If you have lost or misplaced your students log, a copy can be found on the Cowlishaw website under PTA - documents tab. Be a BOOKWORM and LEARN!

Once a student completes a HOME RUN, they will receive a voucher to order your student's free Kane County Cougar game ticket along with purchasing additional tickets for family members.

All year at Cowlishaw, we have been doing service projects to benefit Hesed House, a local organization that helps struggling and homeless families and individuals. Tae-Kwan Do & Dance Exhibitions, Fashion Shows, Food Tastings, Fun Crafts, Prizes and much much more! Bring your families and watch your children travel across continents, with their passports opening up new experiences for them. *The first show will start at 7:00p.m. Admission is free. 5 Due: Friday February 10. Manna Card Fundraiser Please consider getting gift cards through the PTA to pay for your normal purchases. They don t have to be for gifts. Think of it as a credit card. For example: you re buying gas, paying at the pump and you re going to swipe a card. It could be your MasterCard or Visa, or a prepaid Speedway card for $100! The PTA earned $5 from your purchase of that $100 card. Don t think you ll remember to use it? Just keep it in the car. Need groceries? We all do! Get a card from Dominick s or Jewel and the PTA earns $5 from each $100 purchase. Don t think you ll remember to use a Jewel gift card? Keep it in your wallet behind the Jewel Preferred card. Order forms are printable from the Cowlishaw website cowlishaw.ipsd.org. Click on PTA on the left side of the screen, then Documents, and Manna Order Form. Gift cards will be returned on the following Friday in backpack mail when you mark the box on the form. If you prefer, they can be picked up at Jen Phelan s house on Thursday from 5:15 pm-7:00 pm or by special arrangement.
