Fundraising Pack This fundraising pack is full of ideas and information to give you and your supporters the inspiration and resources to help make your fundraising enjoyable and successful!
PLANNING YOUR FUNDRAISING Planning a fundraising event should be fun, and is an opportunity do something you have always wanted to do. When you promote an event you need to show enthusiasm to get as many people on board as possible. Perhaps you can find inspiration by basing your event around an existing hobby. Maybe you like to run or cycle or maybe you have always wanted to jump out of an aeroplane but have never had the chance. Once you have an idea of what you would like to do, you can start thinking about what you need to consider to turn your idea into a successful fundraiser. Pick a date, time and place for your Organise a Bake Off with your colleagues with prizes for the best bake and forfeits for any soggy bottoms! event/ challenge. What resources do you need? Who can you ask to help with your fundraiser and how long is it going to take to prepare for your event/ challenge? Ask your friends and family what they think of your idea to get useful advice before you start preparation. Anything you raise is fantastic but try and keep costs low, get the support of local businesses and tell everyone you re doing the event for charity. You ll be surprised what you can get for free or heavily discounted, don t be afraid to ask! If you need a letter detailing you are fundraising on behalf of YWCA to send to local businesses, we can provide this for you. On the next page you will find a list of ideas to help get you started. Why not organise a car boot sale with your local church, and ask for an entry fee donation to charity at the entrance?
FUNDRAISING IDEAS Sports activities Feeling fit? Want to find out who has what it takes? Why not organise a sports day or a tournament, for example, amongst friends! Netball, Football, Rugby or Cricket tournaments might require a basic understanding of the rules, but there s much more you can try. How about one of the following? 1. Ice or Roller skating 2. Sponsored swim 3. Zumbathon 4. Sponsored run maybe even tackle a half or full marathon! Adventure! You might want to take your fundraising to the next level and take part in an outdoor activity that really gets your blood racing. Our favourite suggestions include: 1. Abseiling 2. Go-Karting 3. Skydive 4. White water rafting 5. Zipline 6. Waxing (Come on boys, we know this scares you more than skydiving!) For those who like the finer things in life If the thought of getting hot, sweaty or scared doesn t float your boat, why not stick your pinkies out and raise money the Downton way: 1. Afternoon tea 2. Art Sale 3. Auction (for goods or services, be creative!) 4. A Great British Bake off 5. Dinner Party think come Dine with me, with less backstabbing 6. Garden Party I ll bring the food, you bring the Pimms 7. Master Classes 8. Day at the Races What to do with the kids If your little one wants to join in, why not throw a party and invite the neighbours. These ideas will start you off but with kids we all know, loud is best! 1. Colouring competition for children 2. Danceathon 3. Face Painting 4. Fancy dress party or walk 5. Karaoke 6. Pancake race 7. Teddy bears picnic 8. Treasure hunt Still stuck for ideas? Well, you can pretty much do anything (as long as you and your guests are safe of course!) to raise money, and we would love to hear from you about your ideas and events. Here are a few more of our favourites, but the list is endless: 1. Apprentice Challenge 2. Book Sales 3. Car boot sale 4. Car Wash 5. Craft stall 6. Dress down day 7. Fashion show 8. Filmathon you could even make your own! 9. Game show challenge 10. Head shave 11. Ironing service 12. Knitting 13. Music evening 14. Pamper party 15. Poetry competition 16. Quiz night 17. Raffle 18. Sponsored silence 19. Wear box 20. Sweepstake 21. Talent contest 22. Unwanted gift sale 23. Window cleaning
HOW DOES MY MONEY HELP? You ll be surprised how far your money will stretch, with every donation no matter how small making a huge difference in one of our service users lives. For example, did you know: Pays for a Cleaning Pack, providing a young person essential hygienic cleaning items for when they move into a new home. Pays for a Welcome Pack, which consists of a small food parcel and enough money to pay for their first gas and electricity token, ensuring that they can feed themselves, their child, and keep their property warm. Pays for a Food Hamper Pack, providing a young person with enough food and essentials to last for the first 2 weeks of their tenancy. Pays for a Winter Warmer Pack, consisting of a Duvet, blanket, hot water bottle, warming soup and a fuel card to help heat their home in the deepest winter months. Pays for an Education Pack, which can be used to help one of our young mums to access further education, or one of our families to access school uniforms, books, stationary and other school essentials for their children. Pays for White Goods, including cookers, fridges, freezers and other electronic goods, items which may otherwise have been inaccessible for a young person to afford on their own, or which are in urgent need of replacement in a household.
LET US KNOW HOW YOU GET ON Let everyone know what you are doing and why you are doing it, as well as raising funds for YWCA, raising awareness of our services can be just as useful. The more people who know about us, the more chance we have of gaining supporters in the future, and this in turn will enable us to reach more women and young families at risk in the local area. Social Media Social media is a fantastic tool for publicising your fundraising, why not set up an event on Facebook and invite all your friends to join and sponsor you? Change your twitter tagline and send a few tweets with a link to your justgiving page (if you re not on twitter send us an and we can tell our followers what you re up to). Don t forget to include eye-catching photos; perhaps you ve done a particularly difficult training session for your challenge or have gathered materials for your event. Photos make your post attention grabbing and stand out. As useful as social media is, don t forget to or call friends and family who aren t on social media but would like to get involved with what you re doing. Local Newspapers/ Newsletters: Contact local newspapers and see if they re interested in picking up your story. Posters and Flyers: Putting posters in local shops and letting the neighbours know there is event going on nearby that they may be interested in attending is always beneficial. For further help or information contact: Louise Dack louise.dack@ywcayorkshire.org.uk
