1 Dancin with the Gourds 2015 Class Schedule for GGS GourdFest SATURDAY 8 A.M A.M. 1-Powertex 3D Blue Sea Shells Price $65.00 Susan Crowe, Fletcher, NC Come and learn all the newest Powertex sculpture techniques! I will be teaching you how to create rock hard textures using common household items like t-shirt material, cotton string, screws and stamps. We will be hand mixing 3D Flex clay, dipping cotton material and incorporating natural sea shells and plaster models. Once dried, the 3D Flex will create amazingly interesting crackle effects. I will demonstrate the use of Powertex liquid, Stone art powder and Color Tricx metallic pigments. We will be using a cut gourd to create our beautiful orb. Students will bring: Cut and cleaned 8" martin gourd or similar one in size. A box of disposable gloves. Bring a whole box, this is really messy fun! Powertex and diamond rings don't play well together. Light weight dust mask if desired. This project can create some dust when mixing the clay, so anyone with dust allergies may want a mask; A heat gun for drying; Pen and paper for additional note taking if desired. An apron or smock, but I would also highly recommend wearing old "play" clothes! We will be working with a textile hardening liquid and guess what it will do if you get it on your clothing? Harden it, permanently! This product will not wash out of your clothing if you get it on you. Instructor will provide: All Powertex materials to complete project; Cotton material, shells and plaster; Mixing bowls/palate, water basins, paper towels and other supplies; Instruction sheets and supply list outlining the complete project 2-Chickadees Birdfeeder PRICE $35.00 Terry & Sandy Jordan Jacksonville, FL Students will be instructed in the Donna Dewberry One-stroke technique to paint the Chickadees sitting on pine boughs on a gourd Birdfeeder from Sandy, a Certifying Elite One-Stroke Instructor with Dewberry Designs. The students will use a faux technique for the background on the gourd, then receive instruction and help to create the pine bough and chickadees for a wonderful and delightful place for our feathered friends to dine. STUDENTS MUST BRING: One-stroke brushes: 3/4, #12 and #10 flat, 1/2 scruffy and #2 liner (These brushes can be purchased from Sandy at her cost of $18-- Please contact her if you need brushes.) 2 3-Burden Basket PRICE-$35.00 Tina Norford Richmond Hill, GA Leave your burdens at the front door to enjoy time with your friends and family. This Native American inspired basket traditionally had two purposes. It allowed the user to carry things on their back leaving their hands free and, when not in use, was hung outside the door for visitors to leave their burdens and troubles before entering the home. We will be weaving with natural materials to make the rim of the gourd and add embellishments that we will make in class. Students must bring: old hand towel, one old pair of scissors and one good pair of scissors, spray bottle full of water, utility knife, small round nose pliers, small regular pliers and a sewing needle (not a tapestry needle) with an eye big enough for waxed linen thread. Teacher will furnish all other materials. 4-Popaw s Tackle Price $35.00 Tina Handrop, Monroe, GA Students will learn to transfer & woodburn design onto a gourd; use alcohol inks to add color & add a twine rim with tackle embellishments. Each student should leave with a finished project. Gourd sizes & shapes will vary slightly Students must bring wood burner with a knife/blade pen & writing pen; hot glue & glue gun, gloves & mask if desired. Instructor will provide cut gourd, inks, embellishments & all other materials needed.

3 6-The Dragon Fly Price $40.00 TJ Kleens Melbourne, FL Students will be introduced to power carving, this class is designed for little to no experience with power carving. Students will be instructed in the following subjects: proper layout, machine care & use, power carving safety, use of a torch, use of a power sprayer, different types of carving bits & their uses. If the student does not know how to use their power carver, this is the class for them. There are many carvers on the market, & while I do not have experience with all of them I will do my best to show them how to properly change bits, & the safest way to use their machine. Students must bring: A clean gourd (inside and out). Gourd 5-Blue Noon Price $20.00 Reggie Eakin, Metter, GA Blue noon is a combination of traditional chip carving, simple power carving, contrasting leather dyes, & simple inlay. The student chip carve a design using a 1/8 and ¼ u gouge, dye the gourd with contrasting dyes, power carve highlights using a 1/8 ball of 1/8 flame bit, & inlay turquoise rivets to complete the design Instructor will supply: Tutorial, compasses, rulers, protractors, pencils, skid pad, dyes, applicators, paper towels, Wet wipes, vinyl gloves, glue, rivets, cabochons, & handcleaner. Students need to bring: A cleaned cut or uncut gourds on which a 6 circle can be drawn. 1/8 and ¼ U gouge (Flex- cut or Ramelson), rotary tools, 1/8 bur, set of diamond burs, a safety glove and apron. should be at least ¼ thick or thicker. A power carving machine that can accommodate 1/8 shank bits, a dremel with the cable hand piece, micro pro, gourd master, or other machines intended for long carving use will yield the best results. Don t forget the stand for any cable machines. Their favorite dust mask, & eye protection. A carving glove if they have one, if not I will have some that can be borrowed. Pencil, eraser, & a permanent marker. Instructor will furnish: Each student with an identical set of bits. (This is a class set to be returned at the end of the class); carving gloves for those who in need, I will

4 bring a compressor, spray gun, & lacquer, Sandpaper & torch. I will furnish a written tutorial for the project & a short dvd for each student keep. SATURDAY 1 P.M. - 5 P.M. 7-Turkish Beaded Night Light PRICE $35.00 Terry & Sandy Jordan Jacksonville, FL Students will be instructed in woodburning techniques to create design of choice on cannonball gourd. Students will also be instructed on how to use alcohol ink to stain the gourd. Instruction will be given on how to drill and adhere Turkish beads in the design. Students should have a completed project. STUDENTS MUST BRING: Red Pen and/or Sharp pencil; Water Basin; Woodburner with writing tip, heat dryer, a drill with a 7/32 drill bit, a gourd awl for starting holes. a rattail file INSTRUCTOR WILL FURNISH: Gourd (cleaned and ready to woodburn and stain), Paper Plates, Paper Towels, Mask, Gloves, Adirondack Inks, Design, Turkish beads (variety of colors), light cord and base, and Tutorial 8-Fairy Gourd Necklace Price $35.00 Judy Wilson Palmetto, GA This striking necklace is coiled with variegated thread and glass beads. Gourd will be prepared for each student; there will be various color choices of variegated threads and glass beads. Emphasis in this class will be on hand skills, neatness and tension. The adjustable necklace is made of ½ mm waxed cotton thread; students will learn to 4 braid and the ends are adorned with glass beads. Students will need to bring embroidery scissors and a personal light is most helpful & recommended; instructor will provide all other supplies and materials.

5 9-Ghouls of the Night Price $30.00 Diane Ricker Norcross, GA Come get in the Halloween spirit with a fun relaxing class of silhouette painting. Teacher will provide prepared gourd, patterns, tracing paper, pencils, paints, palette paper, water containers, cleaning products for brushes and spray Krylon finish. Students need to bring 3 acrylic brushes; 1/2" flat with a good chisel edge, a size 0 (or smaller) liner or scroller, and a size 6,8 OR 10 filbert. A filbert is rounded on the top and looks like a cats tongue. Loew Cornell and Scharff (from Fayetteville GA) are excellent brands. 10-The Hopi Cross Vase Price $35.00 Tina Handrop Monroe, GA Students will learn to wood burn the Hopi Circle on a small to medium canteen gourd, then add a crocheted rim & mount on a base. Students should leave with a finished project. Gourds are canteen Welburn gourds, sizes will vary. Students should bring a wood burner with knife or blade pen, shader pen & ball pen; mask if desired & crochet hook size 4 to 9-the smaller the hook size, the tighter the stitch will be. Instructor will provide gourd cut, drilled & painted on the inside, various colors of yarn, variety of bases

6 Class #11 Powetex Fairyboy Price $65.00 Susan Crowe Want to add a little magic to your garden? Come and join me as we create this charming little fairy boy. We willlearn multiple techniques for building our statue with unusual materials you may never thought of using together. The armature will be constructed out of plaster, Powertex textile hardener, fabric, quick wood epoxy, aluminum foil, masking tape and brick. I will teach you how to mix, dip, sculpt fabric and Powertex Stockinette. We will also learn how to use Power Color pigments and acrylic for painting. Then the final touch is a little fairy dust (aka: Color Tricx) to add that magic! The best part is this statue can be sealed and placed right in your garden to enjoy year round. Students should bring: One tube of quick wood epoxy; A box of disposable gloves. Bring a whole box, this is really messy fun! 7 SUNDAY 8 A.M P.M. PRICE $ Moose with Attitude Terry & Sandy Jordan Students will learn to create this delightful Christmas Moose with Attitude. Terry will provide instruction on how to use Quikwood to attach the two gourds, then to sculpt facial features, ears, hands, and legs He will also show you how to attach the antlers (made from gourd pieces). Sandy, a Certifying-Elite One Stroke Instructor with Dewberry Designs, will then show you how to paint the little guy to create his wonderful attitude. STUDENTS MUST BRING: Red Pen and/or Sharp pencil; Water Basin; Woodburner with writing tip, heat dryer, a drill with a 7/32 drill bit, a gourd awl for starting holes. a rattail file ¾ Flat Brush, #12 Flat Brush, #2 Script Liner, ½ Scruffy Brush, Water Basin (the one-stroke brushes may be purchased from Sandy Jordan at her cost--$18.) Emphasis in this class will be on hand skills, neatness and tension. Students must bring a wood burner; mask if desired; embroidery type scissors, and a personal light is recommended.

They will sponge paint, wood burn their favorite scripture or saying around the bowl or bell and then add the waxed thread rim. Gourd sizes & shapes will vary. Students must bring wood burners with a writing pen, scissors, tapestry needle, mask & heat guns, and their favorite saying or scripture. Instructor will provide gourds, cleaned & drilled, paint, sponges, gloves, thread. Students should leave with a finished project.

9 17-Woven Gourd Basket Price $55.00 Sheryl Scott, Kentucky Students will be using a leather dyed martin gourd of approximately 7"to 8" in diameter & will learn to mark, cut, clean, & weave a gourd basket, with natural pine reed. We will use the natural top of the gourd for the handle & students will learn how to leather dye & spray a finish on the gourd. This will be a fun class that will allow students to go home with a functional and useful gourd basket that is very attractive as well. Students must bring: mask, pencil, old rag, saw to cut slats, and cleaning and sanding tool,small pair of clippers to cut reed, and a small water basin; Teacher will provide: a pre-dyed martin gourd with a clear finish, templates for marking the gourds, instruction on how to mark and cut, flat pine reed for weaving, drill for starter holes. Class #17B Powertex Sandpiper Price $65.00 Susan Crowe Come and get those creative juices flowing as we make this darling little sculpture! We will learn multiple techniques for building an armature out of simple materials such as wire, clay, aluminum foil, masking tape and brick. I will teach you how to mix, mold and apply Powertex textile hardener and Stone Art. We will also learn how to use Power Color pigments in order to create crackle clay and applied highlights for added effect. We will be using two gourds to create our spry little piper. PRICE $ Curly Tailed Cat Terry & Sandy Jordan, Jacksonville, FL Students will be instructed on how to use Quikwood from Terry to sculpt ears, face and feet on a curly handled dipper gourd to create this lovable feline. Students will then be given instruction in the Donna Dewberry One-stroke technique on how to paint the cat from Sandy, a Certifying Elite One-Stroke Instructor with Dewberry Designs. Come create this whimsical cat in your color of choice. STUDENTS MUST BRING: One-stroke brushes: 3/4, #12 and #10 flat, 1/2 scruffy and #2 liner and ½ feather. (These brushes can be purchased from Sandy at her cost of $18-- Please contact her if you need brushes.)
