1 Volume XXX111 Issue 8 August 2016 Since 1980 OROVILLE PIECEMAKERS QUILT GUILD, INC. Officers 2016 President: Marla Vaughn: Vice-President: Dorothy Welton Treasurer: Sharon Helton Secretary: Jan Abramson Moonlighters Pres: Yvonne Ogletree PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Time flies! It is almost August and quilt show entries need to be completed and submitted to Jan as soon as possible how to fit that in between trips to the beach, family visits, and ongoing quilt projects. July has been an amazing month the Moonlighters Linda Ballard retreat was a great success (a big thanks to Wanda Daly who is retiring from sponsoring the retreat). Many of us tried our hand at felting and were surprised with how much fun it was. Ashley Coffey patiently taught us the tricks of using the pineapple trim tool using the minimum amount of fabric. I have attached a picture as proof of what a good teacher she is. Plans for the Quilt Show are falling into place. The time is coming for all of us to step up and volunteer to do our part to make October 1 st and 2 nd a great success Marla Vaughn Newsletter Editor: Dorothy Moyle-Smith 3312 State Hwy 70 ohohnursie@gmail.com Oroville, Ca (530) Web site: orovillepiecemakers.org Summer Picnic. There will be wraps of various varieties, and veggies with dips. For dessert we are going to offer cut fruit for dipping in chocolate and caramel, and/or ice cream sundaes Dorothy Weldon Workshop: Workshop August 18 in the new building Ashley Coffey will be doing a demo of her rulers in the morning. September 1 Workshop is all about getting ready for the show sleeves, binding and labels. If you are ready, come join us anyway. Bring a project you are working on or a community service project Judy Hohman Mark your calendar Oct 13 th Eleanor Burn s sister Pat Knoechel will be our speaker V-President:. Our Program for August will feature Ashley Coffey. She is going to do an overview of the many time saving rulers that she is currently carrying, along with examples of their use. Following her presentation we will be having a Our Speaker at guild Meeting about fiber fusion

3 Community Service On July 1 I delivered 10 quilts each to Shadowbrook, Oliveridge Post Acute and the Dialysis Clinic. Today we received 15 quilts, between the day and night groups. Thank you everyone. We have plenty of pre-cut squares 7 1/2", 4", and 3". Check them out at the next meeting! Jan Owens Dottie Elliott ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS QUILT SHOW ENTRIES: I know all of you have completed many quilts since our last Quilt Show two years ago. Borrow them back, take them off the bed. Baste a quick sleeve on them and let everyone see what great quilters we all are. I would like to display at least one quilt (or more) from each of our 80+ members. There is more space and better lighting this year so the quilts should shine! We really want to show our friends and neighbors what quilting is all about. So. Your entries for the Quilt Show must be turned in by the next General Meeting on August 18 th. That does not mean that the quilts must be finished by then just close enough that you know they will be done by September 30 th. If you participated in the Mystery quilt last year I would like to do a display of those quilts separately so note that information on your form. You also need to fill out a form for your Leaf it 2 Me Challenge project. If you have , please just put the information about your quilts all into one . List the name of your quilt, width and length, year finished, who quilted it and how it was quilted. You can add a short description of interesting information about the quilt. If you do not have , I have forms available. Call me at Or you can print your entries neatly on a piece of paper and bring your list to the August meeting. Entry forms and the Insurance Waiver forms are also available on our Web Page. Jan Abramson Morning Quilters and MoonLighter Quilters 1. Please get your quilts out 2. Attach a sleeve, but most important 3. Send in your entry 4. Identify the entry as a mystery quilt 5. State name of the group it belongs to Day group, Christmas quilt or Feather River Fabric They will be grouped together

4 FAT QUARTERS; A little deviation for the month of Aug. You may use a long 1/4 yd (42 x 9) or fat quarter (18 x 22). the theme is kids and their activities. There are some cute prints out there showing kids at play, beach, backyard, school, etc. A regular 1/4 yard of one of these would work so well in a sew as you go strip quilt. Can you imagine the fun of receiving 3 or 4. in the drawing? You may bring up to 3 items, use your return address sticker on the fabric. Happy fabric shopping!
