1 Volume XXXVI Issue 3 March2019 Since 1980 OROVILLE PIECEMAKERS QUILT GUILD, INC. Newsletter Editor: Jan Abramson (530) abramsonjan@gmail.com Web Site : orovillepiecemakers.org Angie Horne webmaster aphorne3@yahoo.com President s Message: Hello to my wonderful Oroville Piecemakers! I am so sorry that I could not be at our second meeting of my reign as President; I would so much prefer to be there with you! I had been pondering what I could possibly do that would top the regal attire of my first meeting but a hospital gown was certainly NOT what I would have chosen for Act 2. My recent diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer has been a big surprise and a considerable challenge, but I have a treatment plan lined up, and I am very hopeful that I will be around to lead, encourage and astound you for many meetings to come. I will see you in March! Until then Happy Quilting! Angie Angie Horne (Please do not call but, funny cards would be great.) Brenda Hamilton, Camp Fire Survivor, and her new vintage quilt. Moonlighters Chair: Well lady's that was a great meet. Can't wait to see everyone's table runners, I just finished mine and it turned out better than I thought. And the BOM is a really fun one who would have thought to use salvage? And I hope your all thinking about your Candy Challenge. Let s all think of Angie and hope to see her soon and for a speedy recovery. Be save out there with all the rain and watch out for flooding. Maybe just stay home and sew. Well till next meeting stay well and happy sewing. Susan McMillan, MARCH RETREAT: March 7-9 we should be ready for you at about 9am on the 7th. Please make sure you have signed up as attending with Linda Pearson as well as what to bring for the potluck. Please wear your name tags since we will have 6-7 members of the Paradise guild at our retreat. Because we have limited electrical outlets if you have one of those round, multi plug extension cord reels, please bring them. We will also have lots of fabric for community service available. Sharon Helton, Linda Pearson,
2 Speakers: I loved Donna Greenwald's presentation she had so many beautiful creations. Our speaker in March will be Marie Nelson who is from the River City Quilt Guild in Sacramento and will be doing a trunk show of some of her beautiful quilts. Sharon Helton, Workshops: Judging by the number of finished lilac wall hangings at show and tell, the February workshop with Donna Greenwald was a great success. In March we are having 3-day retreat. It's a chance to start a new quilt or finish an old project. If you didn't sign up for the retreat at the meeting and you want to come for any or all 3 days, give me a call. Linda Pearson, Opportunity Quilt Tickets: It is opportunity quilt season again. Every year I need members to take our quilt to guilds or events. There are members who consistently sign up for guilds and travel to north and east bay, Sacramento, Auburn, Grass Valley, North Quarter meetings, and quilt retreats to sell tickets. However, the biggest issue is local events. I need help with these. It is our responsibility as members to support our quilting activities. So, when I ask members to sign up at the meetings please do. I would appreciate those who have not signed up to give those members who have participated every year a break. Signup and help your guild this year. Thanks for signing up. Jeanette Akin, Block of Month: Day Meeting: Terry Catt, Joan Robertson, Moonlighters Meeting: Lynne Pillus, Sandi Corkran, Community Service: The final total for donated items; 39 quilts, 11 hats and 4 tops. Thank you to all. I took 24 quilts to the Ridge quilter survivors. Hopefully, we all can find the time to continue making lots of community service quilts. We have other organizations we support. There is lots of donated fabric waiting to be used. Jan Owens, Judy Hohman, Door Prizes: Moonlighters Meeting Greetings from the ML Door prize Team! We made $67.00 for February We are having fun putting together out baskets. Making Scissor fobs, mini bubble gum machines and much more. So, get those dollars ready for the March baskets. We are working on a few surprises for our mystery baskets Tiffany Sasek, Mary Jane Sasek, Fat Quarters: Day Meeting: So many beautiful red fabrics were turned in this time. The winners will be able to make some nice projects with them. St. Patrick s Day is just around the corner so please bring in your green fabric. The following visitors were also welcomed to the meeting: Jackie Jackson, Liana Fernandez, Regina Ellena, and Claire Warka. One visitor, Brenda Hamilton, from Paradise, she lost her home and did not have any insurance. She loved one of the vintage quilts we had for sale at the show, we gave it to her, and she gave a donation. Sharon introduced the speaker Donna Greenwald.
