I just want to say thanks to our Quilt Show Chairs, Sharon Helton, Claudia Goebl and Committee Chairs for all their hard work, keeping us focus and on track with our upcoming quilt show. For the past year they have been planning and working hard to make our 2018 Quilt Show another success. Now it is our turn to help them and this is what we need from you SIGN UP AND VOLUNTEER, OPQG NEEDS YOUR HELP It is simple as that, get your name on a sign-up list and make it happen. No more begging no more persuading, lets just do it! This is our chance to WOW our community. Quilting sisters I do hope that I got your attention and my message across. It is our turn to make a difference, support our guild and make Beauty on the River 2018 Quilt Show a huge success. Happy Quilting, Jeanette Moonlighters Chair: This month Virginia was on vacation. She will be back writing for the Newsletter next month. Virginia Brile Billie Wright s Services: Former guild member and past president, Billie Wright, who suffered many years from Parkinson's disease and the last few months had liver cancer, has passed away. A memorial service for her will be October 8th, at 10:00 AM at Scheer Memorial Chapel. Auda Hill October Speakers: In October Terri Russell will be putting on a trunk show, and Diana Lazzareschi will show her mother s embroidery. It will also be Terri's last official guild meeting after twenty-four years. She is moving, and we will have a cake to bid her farewell. Please stop in and make a point of talking to her, she will also be working at the show if you miss her at the meeting. 2 Workshops: We had a good turnout for September's sew day. Everyone was busy finishing quilts for the quilt show. October will also be a sew day and a good chance to put the finishing touches on your quilt show entries. Lunch will be potluck as usual. Come and sew all day, visit with friends and eat good food. There will be no workshop in November because we'll all be recuperating from the quilt show Linda Pearson, Quilt Show: We are coming down to the wire and I hope each of you will sign up to help out. A Few dates and times to watch for: Thursday, October 25 - Judging at the grange from 10am -?. All quilts to be judged must be at the grange between 8am & 9:30am. If you can't get them there get them to Claudia Goebl or Terri Russell at their homes - please call first before you drop them off. All judged quilts will be taken to the Auditorium the next day - you do not have to come back to pick them up. Friday, October 26 - Set-up begins at 9am. If you are selling quilts that are not hanging in the show, deliver them to Terri Russell from 11am to 12pm at the back door where the food truck was last show. At noon, begin bringing in your quilts to hang in the show through the front door. Saturday, October 27 & Sunday, October 28 Beauty on the River Quilt Show, hours for both days are 10am - 4pm. Please do not congregate at the entrance to talk. Sunday, October 28 - clean up begins at 4pm and we must be done by 5:30pm. Please help. Sharon Helton Claudia Goebl Quilt Sales: Don't forget we will be subtracting 20% from the sale price for tax and other handling expenses. So, if you want $100 for your quilt, bring your price up to $120 or just expect to get $80 for your quilt. Quilts not hanging in the show should be brought to the eastern backdoor of the auditorium on Friday morning Oct. 26 between11:00 and 12:00. No need to go through check in. Terri Russell Quilt Show Help Needed: We are still in need of help during the Quilt Show. We do not have enough help to Check in and out the quilts or teams of 3 people to hang them on the racks and take them down. We also need husbands with trucks and lots of bodies to pick up and return all the items stored in the back room. If you would prefer a sit-down job, we have plenty of spots needing filling on Saturday and Sunday. By signing up now you will get free admission to the Quilt Show. 4 Community Service: We had 10 quilts turned in. Thank you to Gwen & Sue for helping with binding for the community service quilts. Please send me any suggestions for new fabric that you would like me to purchase. In Ashley s shop, I saw a really cute pattern for a flannel community service quilt. Last but not least, the winner of the mystery prize. There are many books on color and a couple of great books on houses including Freddy s House by Freddy Moran. Jan Abramson Membership: We had 35 members in attendance and 1 guest, Analissia Cuevas who came on her own. Ann Harvey, Jan Nielson, Mercantile: Thank you, ladies, for supporting our Mercantile Table. Dorothy Welton, Cheryl Cox, Helen Cox, Sunshine: Virginia was gone this month so there was no report. One ray of sunshine Dottie Elliot was at the meeting and feeling better. Virginia Brile Fat Quarters: Everybody: Remember to bring your Halloween fat quarters to the October meetings. We ll have fun sewing up holiday projects.

5 General Meeting Minutes: Oroville Piecemakers Quilt Guild General Meeting September 20, 2018 At the Palermo Grange 7600 Irwin Ave. Palermo CA The Meeting called to order: 9:52 President Jeanette Akin: Jeanette Akin spoke about the cancellation of our August meeting. She apologized for any inconvenience this action may have caused anyone. Members from Valley Quilt Guild from Yuba City were welcomed and thanked for bringing their two opportunity quilts to our meeting. She encouraged members to purchase tickets. Jeanette then Welcomed and introduced a visitor Alicia Cuevas. She then turned the meeting over to Vice President Sharon Helton. Sharon introduced our guest speaker Laurel Anderson a textile and quilt designer. She shared her perspective on the power of color. Break 10:48-11:02 Business Meeting: There were no corrections to the July, they will stand approved as distributed in our newsletter. Old Business: President Jeanette Akins stated it is time to vote on the proposed changes to our By- Laws which were presented to the members in June We were to vote on this change in July, however some members needed more time to review the changes. She asked for further discussion. A motion was made to accept the changes in the By-Laws by Sharon Helton. Seconded by Jan Owens. MP. Nominating Committee chairman Dorothy Moyle Smith reported on the meeting held with Marge Redding and Cheryl Cox. She reported on the proposals to be made by the committee. She stated we need someone to come forward and volunteer to become the treasurer. Dorothy made a plea to all members to think about how they can help out their guild. We still need a few people to volunteer to help in hospitality. Boutique: Dorothy Moyle-Smith thanked everyone for the items donated to be sold in our boutique during the quilt show. She reported we are getting many nice items and she feels we will have a good variety of items to sell. Reports: Treasurer: deferred this month. Vice President Report Sharon Helton: Sharon reported a trunk show next month will be Terri Russell and Diana Lazzareschi. 2 nd Vice President Linda Pearson: She reported there will be a sew day October 4 th. Community Service: Jan Owens asked for suggestions to help her decided what colors of fabric to add to our stash. Quilt Show Reports: Sharon Helton Quilt show Chairman: She reminded everyone that today is the last day to enter quilts in the show. She discussed how the quilts need to be labeled. The list with the judging categories has the instruction at the bottom of the page. There needs to be two labels, one on the back which will be covered during the judging and the one on the front with quilt name and category. Quilts to be judged are to be delivered to the grange on Thursday October 25 th by 9am. They will be taken to the Vets Building for you after the judging is complete. There are 50 signed up to be judged. Any quilt more than 24inches wide, must have a sleeve. Sharon reminded everyone to sign up on the sheets provided today for jobs that are listed. If you sign up in advance, you will receive a flower to wear as your name badge. Please write you name in the center of the flower. Free admission is only to those members who have signed up prior to the show. Do not just drop in asking what you can do. You must sign up now. Signups report by Jan Abramson. Prepared signup sheets She asked for members who have husband with a truck and any others able to help load the trucks with the stands, lattice and other props for the show, please come to the Grange on Thursday at 9am. Everything must be loaded and ready to take to the Auditorium on Friday morning. Each truck will take home whatever is in their truck and deliver said stuff on Friday morning. Set up is Friday morning. We need as many people as possible to prepare the hall. Just as important as set up, is tear down on Sunday. The show closes at 4pm and we must have everything out and the hall cleaned by 5:30pm. We need lots of people helping get everything out.

6 Opportunity Quilt: Jeanette Akin passed around signup sheets for the November VFW Auxiliary Craft Fair and the Salmon Festival. Jeanette; reported we have grossed about $5585 and netted about $4552 on the opportunity quilts so far. These are estimates because there are still a couple of events that have not been added. Nancy Clayton reported there are still tickets to be picked up by some members. BOM: Terry Catt presented 9 blocks won by May Kaye Haughey. She reported she still has some instructions available for next month s block. FAT Quarters: Beverly Smith presented 6 fat quarters to Jackie Conn, she had left, but someone will be sure she gets them. Doors Prizes: Betty Drake presented the baskets to: Helen Cox, Janet Kramer, Ann Harvey and mystery basket to Debbie Rookard Membership: Ann Harvey reported we had 35 members present and one visitor. She also announced the dates for some up and coming quilt shows. Terri Russell: gave a report about some classes provided years ago, by some of the members, many of which have passed away. They were nice memories. Angie Horne read an amusing spam that came into the guilds address. There was an announcement about flu shots being available at the salmon festival by Oroville Hospital. Dottie Elliott thanked everyone for the card and letters wishing her a quick recovery. She also asked for donations of fabric scraps. Her group make quilts for the Rescue Mission. So far this year they have made and donated 88 quilts. This is the first time in a while they are running low on fabric. Show and Tell participation was: Lorraine Cothern, Marilla Brereton, Cheryl Cox, Linda Pearson, Gwen Boynton. With no further business: Moonlighters Oroville Piecemakers Quilt Guild 9/20/18 The Yuba-Sutter Quilt Guild attended the Moonlighters meeting and displayed their two beautiful opportunity quilts. Guests: Janet and Billy of the Yuba-Sutter Quilt Guild attended and became NEW members of the OPQG! A previous OPQG Moonlighter attended Michelle Seward. Mary McPheron who is new daytime member also attended. Door Prize Winners: Sabrina Bell, Tiffany Sasek, Angie Horn, Claudia, Fran Pattison and Cindy Scofield Fat Quarter Winner: Fran Pattison won this month themed FQ s which is grey. Next month s theme is Halloween or Spooky fabrics BOM: Window in the garden was won by Yvonne Show & Tell: Dorothy Moyle-Smith, Cindy Scofield, Jan Owens, Nancy Kennedy, Tiffany Sasek, Susan McMillan, Jeri Huey, Virginia Brile, Claudia Goebl Bylaw changes: President Jeanette Akin discussed the new bylaw changes. Claudia Goebl motioned to accept/vote in the changes with a second made by Pat Woodruff. The members present voted with the majority of members approving the bylaw changes. Door Prize Committee: The new Moonlighter door prize committee members for the 2019 are Tiffany and Mary Jane Sasek. Thank you both for volunteering.
