Newsletter Editor: Jan Abramson (530) Web Site : orovillepiecemakers.org Angie Horne webmaster aphorne3@yahoo.com President s Message: QUILTER S QUOTE: The Love of Quilting is Our Common Thread. The Beauty on the River Quilt Show was a success because of each of you. Thank you to Sharon Helton and Claudia Goebl for your leadership in the planning and executing our 2018 Beauty on the River Quilt Show. Thank you to the Quilt Show Committee who worked very hard this past year to make things happen smoothly. Thank you to Marla Vaughn, and the Star Bright Ladies for designing and creating the fabulous Opportunity Quilt. Thank you to Terri Russell, Nancy Clayton and Mary Jane Sasek for a great job in judging all the wonderful entries. Thank you to our Featured Quilter s Lynne Pillus and Linda Person and to each member who shared their creations with all of us and the community. Thank you to all the volunteers, members and nonmembers, who came and worked in the setup, break down, judging room, boutique, admissions, opportunity quilt and raffle basket ticket sales, white gloves and every area that needed your help during the show. Thank you to the vendors for bringing new things for us to purchases and add to our stashes. I am so thankful for each member of our guild for your teamwork, for the laughs, and for making the community feel so welcome. The comments from many attendees were very positive and said, It was the best show ever. Oroville Piecemakers Quilt Guild Thank You for a JOB WELL DONE Jeanette Akin, Farewell to Terri Russell: Quilters are always quick to welcome new quilters as they pick up quilting, move to a new area, or just decide to join in finally. Many of us grow deep roots within our guilds and become longtime parts of our quilting communities. We have a member who we love and will miss, Terry is moving to Davis, CA about an hour drive from Oroville. As her many friends and acquaintances know, Terri has been an incredibly active member of the guild for more than 20 years. She is an inspiration to many of us quilters and new quilters and to many she is our quilting hero. We will miss her and wish her the best, Terri you will always be one of us, OPQG Quilting Sister. 2 Moonlighters Chair: I feel like a stranger after being gone a month on vacation. I had a great time but, I m glad to be back. Since it s October we are all very busy as our Quilt Show is almost here. My projects are almost done are yours? Now the race is on for the holidays. The Food Committee did a good job as usual. We fed everyone even though we were a main dish short. It was good to see everyone even though we missed a few faces. We ll hear soon from our nominating committee about new chairmen for next year. We have all of our chairmen nominated. Wow! See you next month. Have a Happy Halloween. Virginia Brile Speakers: Terri Russell's trunk show was amazing, she has had a long and varied quilting history. She will be missed. Our November speaker is Jan Haworth on her "Journey as a Quilt Artist". Sharon Helton, Quilt Show: Wow, what a busy time we had and I want to thank those of you who worked so hard at putting it together from planning it to actually doing the work. We had several new events going which seemed to be well received. We tried selling quilts and sold fifteen, very much a success. We had 20 award sponsors, two of which who wanted to select their favorite quilt and Mayor Linda Dahlmeier selected her favorite for the "Mayors Choice Award" sponsored by Applebee's. Our ribbons were hand made by our own Millie Top and they turned out beautifully, with several positive comments from visitors. We also had special name tags made by Dorothy Moyles Smith and a wonderful boutique with items made by many of our members. Plus 38 raffle baskets filled to the brim with items donated by companies throughout the country. For those of you who won baskets, please save them for our next show. Sharon Helton, Workshops: Thanks everyone for your participation in workshops this year. It's always fun to learn new techniques. There will be no workshop in November or December. We are doing some classes differently in In January we are having a half day workshop after the general meeting on January 17. The class will be taught by our speaker Jennifer Rapaki. There will be a open sew day on our usual workshop day, January 3rd. I wanted to let you know early so you can plan to stay for the work shop on the 17. More info about Jennifer's class to come! 3 Presenter s Photo Gallery Terri Russell Terri s Thank You: A heart- felt THANK YOU for the going away party. The cake was so delicious, and I enjoyed the extra piece sent home with me. The signature block that so many signed will be a precious memory. I enjoyed showing SOME of my quilts, I have given a lot away to family and to charity and some of those I showed have recipients names on them too. There is a story behind every quilt but not enough time to tell them. I did want the audience to know a lot of great outside and in-house teachers were the inspiration behind the quilts. The Guild has been very special place to go on Thursdays and the members have been so helpful in my quilting journey. You were all a big part of the healing process when I lost my husband. I will not ever forget that. I look forward to new quilting adventures (and finishing my UFO's) in my new home in Davis. 252 Quarter Circle Drive Davis, New Phone Number: (530) Starting Nov. 5. Thanks, Terri Russell
