We have lots of new classes including some great projects for the holidays. Aren t we all always looking for that last minute gift or is that just me? Table runners and bags and...have you seen Muriel s cool Bed Wedge? I want to make one of those for myself! We also have two fabulously famous teachers coming in November! Linda Lee of Sewing Workshop fame is returning for three days! See the details in the newsletter about the wonderful class and lecture she is offering to help you fine tune your garment sewing prowess. Amanda Murphy is coming to share her domestic machine quilting skills. Whether you are an experienced machine quilter or just starting out, this will be a most enjoyable day! Happy Sewing! Shirley & the Sew Original Girls Amanda Murphy is coming to Winston-Salem to teach Machine Quilting! Saturday, November 14, :00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Spend a day with fabric designer and author, Amanda Murphy! Have you admired the work of expert quilters but don t know where to begin when quilting your own projects? This class demystifies the process. We ll learn to free motion quilt some basic patterns and then create complex designed just by breaking up the design space and filling in. Toward the end of class, students have the opportunity to bring in some unfinished quilt tops and talk with other students and Amanda about quilting options. Go home invigorated and ready to finish those quilt tops! We expect this class to fill quickly so don t miss out! Cost: $100 (includes lunch) CLASS CANCELLATION POLICY: A student must cancel eight (8) days prior to class to receive a full refund or store gift certificate; otherwise, NO refund will be given as the instructor will be paid for that student. Each month we view Linda s tutorial where she shares her sewing techniques and style ideas with us. We have show and tell of our own work and share questions and knowledge. If you d like to get back to sewing garments, this club is for you. Membership is $99/year, which includes a USB for the monthly tutorials and all the meetings. Separate monthly attendance is $20/month. Non-members do not receive the USB, but that month s tutorial will be ed to you as a pdf. 3 SOFTWARE INSPRIATIONS (previously known as Software Sampler) An excellent opportunity for ALL BERNINA software owners - any level of software, any level of ability! A different lesson every month! Embroidery Software owners are invited to attend a virtual training presented by a BERNINA Educator coming to us live using virtual classroom technology. We will attend the virtual presentation and then you may choose to do the software exercise on your laptop with Terri guiding you. This program will help you to learn the software as well as see practical applications for embroidery. A CD with the lesson will be given each session. If you cannot attend the class presentation, you may still request the CD and watch on your own. Class fee applies for the CD also. Class fee: $10 includes CD We will not be stitching any of the exercises in class. This is a BERNINA Embroidery Software 7 lesson with a project suggestion presentation. Lesson 9 - In-the-Hoop! Create a Pencil Pouch project to embroider in the hoop. Work with fonts, embroider the zipper and quilting to complete the project. Saturday, October 17 10:00 Lesson 10 - Coming Up Roses Everything will be coming up roses as you learn to create stitches using the free-hand drawing tool using a photo as a template no artistic skills needed. Explore the option of adding needlepunch for additional color. Saturday, November 21 10:00 BERNINA CLUB Build Your Sewing Skills! This is your opportunity to learn fun sewing techniques from Susan Fears, one of the BERNINA s expert educators! Susan will come to us virtually to present a lesson that incorporates presser feet, accessories, BERNINA machine and Overlock/Serger techniques in projects for everyday living. We will watch the recorded video presentation and then practice some of the techniques that were shown using store machines. You will not need to bring your machine or supplies for this club. Small supply fee may be charged depending on the lesson. This club is for sewers with all levels of sewing ability! Class Fee: $10 includes CD Lesson 9 Courier Bag When a larger bag is needed, the Courier bag provides a stylish and comfortable solution. The secret sauce.is in the strap. Select a great fabric or create a great fabric to use as the strap. Saturday, October 17 1:30 Lesson 10 A Serge in Sewing Experiment with machine needle punch and serger details to create a modern vest you ll enjoy making and wearing. Saturday, November 21 1:30 BERNINA Embroidery Software 7 Classes Learn to have fun and be creative using your embroidery software! Terri will be teaching the following classes this quarter. For all classes bring your laptop with Software 7 loaded, your dongle, computer power cord, an external (wired) mouse and pen/paper for notes. BERNINA Software 7 Intro and Basic Editing (Editor+ or Designer+ Levels) If you are a new software owner this class is a pre-requisite for all other BERNINA Embroidery Software 7 Classes! This Hands-On computer class will start you on your journey to lots of fun and creativity using your embroidery software. Learn to navigate the software and basic editing skills. No class fee for those that purchased Software 7 from Sew Original. All others $60 To Be Scheduled as Needed Lettering & Monogramming (Editor+ or Designer+ Levels) Hands- On Computer Class You ll be amazed at all the things you can do with lettering! Explore Lettering Basics and have fun with creative ways to use the alphabets in your Software 7. Students will also learn to use the Monogramming features of the software. Two classes combined in one day to learn lots of lettering and monogramming skills! To Be Scheduled as Needed 3

But either way, it's fun. Come learn all the tips and tricks to make your Hattie's Dresden quilt. It's constructed similarly to a traditional dresden but no previous dresden experience needed. Friday, November 20, 10am-3pm COST: $55 Teacher: Lee Monroe Preppy the Whale Preppy is a fresh and happy patchwork whale who s ready to be a part of your next quilt! These 4" x 13" whales are made using conventional patchwork techniques - no paper piecing or templates. Because each whale only needs a 9 x 10 piece of fabric, Preppy can be made using fat quarters, fat sixteenths, 10 precut squares, or even scraps. Mix and match to make a fun and fabulous quilt. Includes Mini, Child, and Picnic Sizes Child and Picnic sizes are equivalent to small and large lap quilts. Friday, October COST: $40 Teacher: Muriel Riggs Hatties Dresden Prickly Pear Create your own version of this beautiful Judy Neimeyer quilt. Lucille is a certified Judy Neimeyer instructor and will teach you the Quiltworx method of foundation piecing, making those perfect spikes and flying geese easy to achieve. Friday, October 16, 9:30am-4:30pm COST: $60 Teacher: Lucille Amos Preppy the Whale Pick Me! There s nothing as refreshing as a Christmas tree and a little winter scene to get in the Christmas spirit. Using 2 1/2 strips and the BasiX template ruler you can make this cute wall hanging in no time at all. Friday, October COST: $40 Teacher: Muriel Riggs CONTINUING CLASS...Quilting Skill Builder Class This class is designed with the beginner quilter in mind, but is also appropriate for an advanced beginner, or any quilter wishing to refine his or her piecing skills. We will create two 12 (finished) blocks per week; there will be 12 blocks in the class, each more challenging that the previous blocks. At the end of the 6-week session, you will have 12 blocks, suitable to place into a sampler quilt. Stay tuned for the next session on setting solutions! Come join the journey it ll be fun. Add a touch of whimsy to your home or use as a gift to be treasured for years. In the first 3 hour session you will begin the construction of the outer cover, then finish sewing at home. The second session you will upholster your footstool, and leave with a finished project! A tuffet all your own! The tuffet shown used 2 1/2 strips, a jelly roll or Bali Pop is perfect.
