2 August 2017 Saturday Sampler Saturday, August 19 9:30-10 am Meets on the 3rd Saturday of each month Hand Piecing- Intermediate Level Finishing Your Quilt All Level Instructor: Susan Masters Date: Saturday, August Need a refresher course on squaring up borders and applying bindings? We will cover several different binding from hand stitched to machine finished as well as a flanged binding. We will also make sample sleeves and labels. This is a fun part of quilting finishing! 1 session each month in August, September, November and December (5 hours per session) Fee: $40 per class Instructor: Kathy Charvat Dates: Various Saturdays of each month 9-2 August 5, September 9, November 4, December 2 We will make a different block in each class. Learn the basics of stabilizing the shirt design, choosing the design idea for the quilt and construction ideas for making the shirts into blocks. Instructor: Susan Masters Date: Saturday, April Chenille Hot Pad 1 session (4 hours) Fee: $32 Date: Saturday, October This scaled down version of the chenilled throws you ve been seeing will teach you the entire process in a short amount of time. We ve added insulated batting to the mix so that you can whip up some really cute hot pads for yourself or to give away as gifts. These larger hexagons are one of Susan s favorite projects and can be done by hand or machine! They make up quickly and have endless variety! Beware: there will be beads, lace, decorative stitching, ribbons and beautiful threads. If you love to crazy quilt, this idea will be a new twist! We will make a vinyl pouch also. There is a $1 kit fee for the pouch. J. J. s Phone Wallet Instructor: Martha Sheriff Date: Friday, October This wallet design was developed because of the KK s mini wallet. Many loved the mini wallet but wanted a place to hold their phone too. Martha has developed this wallet with all the features of KK s Mini Wallet (coin pocket, snap flap vinyl ID pocket, bill pocket and 3 card pockets) with the addition of a clear vinyl pocket to hold your phone with the vinyl allowing the touch screen to be used while it is in the pocket. The strap has also been designed to be as versatile as possible allowing the ability to use it cross body, shoulder strap, hand strap or wristlet. This is a fun project and surprisingly easy to put together. You ll want to make one for all your friends. There will be a $5 kit fee which includes the two pieces of vinyl you will need, the hardware (D rings and clips for the strap) and the snaps.

It has a vinyl outside ID pocket that is covered by a flap that lends itself to any king of decoration, embroidery, piecing or applique. The flap snaps over the ID pocket to protect your information. On the other side is a snapped coin pocket. Inside there is a cash/bill pocket and 3 card pockets. A wrist strap is removable. Pattern purchase required. Beginning Machine Quilting I Instructor: Martha Sheriff Date: Saturday, November You will learn stitch in a ditch using the walking foot as well as how to stitch next to the ditch which is easier than stitching in the ditch. You will also learn how to set up your machine for free motion quilting and feel comfortable with moving the fabric freely. This is a skill you ll use forever. Let s talk about how to quilt for different patterns of your quilt and about colors and types of threads. We will discuss types of quilting and how to do the new, popular big stitch quilting by machine or hand. Different methods and types of binding will be explored. And if you still like to do the hand stitching, we will go over how to sew it down correctly and invisibly using the Curves, point and corners! Everything you need to know about the big three machine appliqué stitches! We ll practice satin stitching, buttonhole or blanket stitching and invisible appliqué stitching.
