HURST S HAT WORKSHOP with Kirsti Johanson author of Chawton Cottage Collection Join local knitting designer and teacher, Kirsti Johanson for this hat class and get started on your holiday knitting a little early. Mrs. Hurst s Hat is a fancy hat pattern knitted from the top down and gently shaped with yarnovers and decreases. The size is adjustable as you go and the end product is delightful! Techniques covered in the class include Emily Ocker Cast-on, basic lace work, hat structure and design (for student s future creative work) stretchy bind off and fiber analysis so students will know what to look for in future knitting construction. COLOR AND FABRIC CLASS Are you wanting to develop your eye for fabrics and color? If you are feeling overwhelmed when it comes time to select fabric and colors for that next quilt, come join this class. We will cover color, value, intensity, and scale. Terry knit the beret using Colorando, a cotton and acrylic blend yarn by Plymouth and circular and double point needles. This is a great take-along summer project. Pattern included. Sun. Jul 21 12:30-3:30 Terry Rutlin $30.00 HAND QUILTING Come learn the basics of hand quilting. It is relaxing and portable! This class will cover everything you need to know about hand quilting...batting choices, basting, marking, needles, thimbles and hoops...as well as get you started on perfecting those tiny little stitches. The class project makes a wonderful pillow or wall hanging. Kit required. 1 session Thu. Jul 25 5:30-8:30 Anne Smith $30.00 KNIT A SUMMER PURSE This cotton purse is knit with a left twist and right twist stitch resulting in a nubby texture that can be dressed up or worn casual. Strap can be shoulder or arm length or make an evening clutch without a strap. The purse has a zipper closure, a zippered inside pocket and is fabric lined. Must have sewing experience to complete lining. Pattern required. FREEMOTION FUN If you are tired of stippling and want to add more fun to your freemotion quilting, this class is for you. We will explore a variety of backgrounds, fillers, borders and even fun feathers. There will be plenty of tips on how to make freemotion quilting more fun and less stressful. Sat. 3 GLITTER VILLAGE PLAY DAY Make a no-sew village in your favorite fabrics for your favorite little or big person. You ve seen Kay s adorable houses in the store...she will show you how much fun you will have embellishing and personalizing your own little house. Pattern required. POCKET BOOK QUILTING ENGLISH PAPER PIECING Join the hexie craze...using English paper piecing. This hand sewn technique makes it the perfect project for summer activities. Tuck it into your pocket book and take it with you to the beach, ball game or to sit on the porch swing. Fabric hexagons are sewn around paper templates and then sewn together by hand. There will be a trunk show of quilts and ideas, along with a lecture on math and methods for making triangle units. 4 CLASSIC FEATHERED STAR Learn to construct this delicate star block, perfect for a wallhanging or entire quilt of Feathered Stars. Using the bias strip method you will make small triangles (forming feathers) which will edge each of the eight star points. Pattern required. Mon. Aug 5 5:30-9:00 Judy Hasheider $35.00 SKILL LEVEL KEY Beginner: Easy projects. Little or no knowledge of quilting or knitting. You must know how to use your sewing machine if one is needed for class. Advanced Beginner: Quilters must know basics of quilting and use of rotary cutter. We recommend Basic Quiltmaking class before taking advanced beginner level. Knitters must know how to cast on, knit, purl and bind off. Intermediate: Fully comfortable with rotary cutting, basic quiltmaking techniques and piecing using 1/2 and 1/4 triangles. Knitters must be comfortable with more advanced concepts, e.g., gauge changing and stitch patterns. QUILT SITTER S CIRCLE PICNIC Tuesday, July 9th 12:30PM or 6:00PM at the shop IMPORTANT CLASS INFORMATION Pre-registration is a must! Stop in, send check or call with Visa, MasterCard or Discover card number. For most classes, there is a supply list and/or special instructions. Please pick one up when registering for a class or send self-addressed stamped envelope when registering by mail. We offer a 10% discount on all your class supplies and are happy to help in the selection of fabric and supplies needed for classes. Stitchers Crossing respects copyright laws. If a pattern or book is required for your class, you must have your own copy. Know how to operate your sewing machine for classes that involve one and be sure it is in good working order before you come to class. It s best to have your own equipment (rulers, rotary cutter, etc ) in order to accomplish what is necessary to feel success. Our quilting workshops are for piecing the top only. Cancellations must be made at least one week prior to class in order to receive a refund. If we have to cancel a class, you will receive a full refund or credit can be applied to another class or merchandise. There will be over 70 fiber arts classes to choose from along with sheep show, shearing demonstrations, the Crook & Whistle Stock Dog Trial, newborn lambs, fleece shows and sales plus educational clinics and workshops for shepherds of any age and level of experience. Shop in comfort in the Country Store where over 130 vendors from across the nation offer everything from knitting needles to sheep cheese. ATTENTION: ALL FORMER STUDENTS OF NATALIE SEWELL Natalie Sewell will be honored at the 2013 Quilt Expo, September 5, 6, 7, in Madison, Wisconsin. A special exhibit will recognize Natalie as a teacher and instructor by featuring the work of her former students. All of Natalie s students are invited to submit a quilt or other piece of art to this exhibit. As this is not a juried show, the first 25 submissions will be accepted for the exhibit; please, only submit your very best work. The requirements for entry are as follows: Digital submissions (only) will be accepted beginning June 15. Submissions must be representative of Natalie s technique. Only one (1) submission per student. Send submissions to sue@susanstextileart.com; type Natalie s Legacy Show in the subject line. Attach a photo of your entire quilt or other artwork. Attach a second close-up photo showing the finished edges of your piece. Include your name (as you would like it to appear on a label) and your complete USPS mailing address.
