3 SUPPLIES: ¾ yard FABRIC A 1/8 yard FABRIC B 3 x 6 scrap FABRIC C ¼ yard batting Small amunt stuffing/batting 5 length ¼ ½ elastic 4 length 5/8 wide Velcr ( ½ wide if yu can find it) 3 size 1/0 Snaps One 1 1/8 buttn 6 7 zipper Optinal: 3 small buttns; Bias Tape narrw and duble flded PREPARATION: Cut frm FABRIC A: 2-8 x 18 ½ - utside and lining 2 4 ½ x 5 ¼ scissr and pencil pckets 2-8 x 6 ¾ ntepad and ruler pcket 2 ¼ strips, fr a ttal f 55 length, fr zipper bag and bbbin pcket binding * ; scissr handle clsure; uter tab clsure * - may use stre bught bias tape instead Cut frm FABRIC B: 6 3 x 3 pins, needles, and thimble pckets 1 2 x 2 inner pincushin Cut frm FABRIC C: 2 3 x 3 fr uter pincushin Cut frm muslin: 1-8 x 18 fr inner lining when quilting Cut frm clear vinyl: 1 4 x 2 ½ Small vinyl pcket 2 6 x 6 ½ Zippered pcket Cut frm batting: 1 8 x 18 ½ main bag 2 3 x 3 needles & pins* 1 4 ½ x 5 ¼ scissr/pencil pckets* * - may use flannel instead f batting Cut frm felt: 2 2 ¼ x 2 ¼ needles & pins cases - inside.

4 DIRECTIONS: All seams are ¼ unless therwise nted. Refer t diagram picture fr placement f pieces as yu cnstruct yur tte. 1. Outer Bag. Sandwich uter FABRIC A, batting and muslin. Quilt as desired. Set aside. 2. Clear vinyl zippered pcket. Nte: If using 7 zipper the end will extend beynd the zipper. D nt cut it ff until directed. Hint: When sewing n vinyl it helps t put a piece f thin paper between the vinyl and the feed dgs n yur sewing machine, s it will slide easily when sewing. Any paper caught up in the stitching will easily tear ff. Figure 1 Cut 13 strip frm binding fabric (FABRIC A). Fld in Half, wrng sides tgether, press. Open and fld in half again, edges t meet at center fld. (Figure 1) Place binding fabric with right side dwn n tp f thin paper that is larger than the vinyl bag piece. Line up ne vinyl bag piece with the tp edge even with the center f the binding fabric. vinyl Binding wrng side up 5/8 fr new zipper stp Place clsed zipper n tp f vinyl piece, with the wrng side f the zipper against the vinyl piece. Have the zipper edge lined up with the vinyl and center f binding fabrics. See Figure 2 Make sure the end tab fabric with the zipper pull meets with the side f the vinyl piece. If yu are using a 7 zipper the ppsite end will extend beynd the vinyl. Using a zipper ft, sew thrugh all f the layers, clse t the zipper teeth. Measure in frm the edge f the vinyl bag side 5/8 frm the zipper stp. Stitch thrugh the zipper back and frth several times t create a new stp fr the zipper. Fld binding twards the frnt f the zipper, having the edge f the binding near t the zipper teeth. Tpstitch thrugh all layers t create a finished edge, encasing the zipper. Cut zipper Figure 2 ff excess binding t use n ther side. Repeat same steps fr the ther half f the vinyl zipper bag. Figure 3 Open the pcket flat with right sides up (vinyl, zipper with binding, vinyl). Figure 3. Flatten the binding against the vinyl pcket n each side and tpstitch near the edge away frm the zipper, fr a flat, finished seam. The finished binding will be n the utside f the bag when dne. Cut the extra zipper end ff s the new end matches with the sides f the bag. Make additinal binding frm binding fabric fr the sides and bttm, as in Figure 1. Yu may use stre bught Bias Tape as binding fr the sides if desired. Sew binding n the sides, finishing the tp edges by flding under. Okay fr bttm edge t be raw. Attach binding t bttm edge, finish ends by turning under edges. Set finished zippered bag aside. 3. Needle & Pin cases. Needle & Pin cases will be assembled alike. Take tw 3 x3 FABRIC B squares and place right sides tgether. Tp with ne 3 x3 batting square. Sew seams arund all edges, leaving abut 1 ½ pening n ne side fr turning. Clip crners, trim batting and turn. Irn, flding raw edges in ¼ t match seams. Tp stitch 3 sides, using 1/8 seam. Set aside. Repeat fr secnd case cver. One case cver will be attached t the lining FABRIC A (NOT the quilted fabric). With the 8 x18 lining fabric, determine the tp end. Measure and mark 7/8 frm left side and 7/8 dwn frm the tp. This is where the case cver will be attached t the lining. (D nt sew it n yet). Place ne 2 ¼ x 2 ¼ felt square abut 1/8 t the side and belw the marking fr where the case cver will be sewn n. Place cver ver t make sure the felt square will be ttally cvered when the cver is clsed. Sew felt int place, sewing as clse t the edge as yu can. Yu may want t d a narrw zigzag stitch. Place case cver ver felt square, lining up with the edge markings. Have the side nt yet tpstitched n the left side. Tp stitch left side, using 1/8 seam allwance. Attach snap t the felt, centered at the edge f the right side, and t the inside f the case cver. Set aside. Secnd case will be attached t ntebk and ruler pcket.

5 4. Ntepad and ruler pcket Using the 8 x 6 ¾ FABRIC A pieces, place them right sides tgether. Sew upper and lwer seams, leaving side seams pen. Turn and press. Attach secnd needle/pin case t pcket, fllwing the same prcess as in Step 3. NOTE: The placement will be 7/8 frm left side and 1 7/8 frm tp. 5. Thimble pcket Place the final tw 3 squares f FABRIC B, right sides tgether and sew seams arund each side, leaving pening n ne side fr turning. Clip crners and turn; irn, tucking in the unsewn edge. Tpstitch, using 1/8 seam n unsewn edge. Place left edge 7/8 t the right f the needle/pin case and 1 7/8 frm tp f pcket piece. Tpstitch ONLY the right side, using 1/8 seam. Tpstitch bttm frm right side tward center ¾, using 1/8 seam. Leave rest f the bttm and left side pen at this time. Place ntepad and ruler pcket n lining, wrng side f pcket t right side f lining. The bttm f the pcket is t be 7 frm bttm f bag, sides even with lining. Pin int place. Tpstitch the bttm f pcket 1/8 frm bttm edge, thrugh all the layers. Mark a line fr ruler pcket 2 frm right edge f lining. Stitch pcket line, flding thimble pcket back, making sure yu d nt catch it in the stitching. Attach snap t thimble pcket centered at the tp, and ntepad/ruler pcket. Finish tpstitching bttm and left sides f thimble pcket t ntepad and ruler pcket, 1/8 seam allwance. Check t make sure the ruler pcket is pen t the bttm f the pcket. A 6 x1 ruler will shw just a small bit at the tp if installed prperly. The ntebk pcket shuld be large enugh t hld a small spiral ntebk. Yu may want t attach pcket t sides f lining at this time using scant ¼ seam. 6. Pincushin Fr the pincushin yu will use the 3 FABRIC C squares and the 2 FABRIC B square, als stuffing/batting. Fld and irn ¼ seams all arund the 2 square. Center square n tp f ne 3 square (wrng side f small square t right side f 3 square) and tpstitch 3 edges, using 1/8 seam. Put small amunt f stuffing int pcket and tpstitch pen end. Place secnd 3 square n tp f small square, right sides tgether, matching edges. Sew seams arund square, leaving pening fr turning. Clip crners and turn. Irn edges, flding in raw edge. Place small amunt f stuffing int larger square. Pin pen end shut. Place n tp f lining fabric, 7/8 frm the tp and frm the right side. Pin int place. Tpstitch pincushin nt lining using 1/8 seam. 7. Scissr and pencil pcket Place the tw 4 ½ x 5 ¼ FABRIC A pieces right sides tgether. Place 4 ½ x 5 ¼ batting n tp and sew seam arund tp and ne side. Trim batting and clip crner. Turn and irn. Place n bttm right crner f lining, wrng side f pcket t right side f lining, with raw edges against right and bttm edges f lining fabric. Tpstitch left side f pcket t lining using 1/8 seam. Stitch t right side and bttm edge, a scant ¼. Fr pencil pcket, sew seam frm tp t bttm 1 ½ frm right edge. 8. Scissr handle tab Cut 4 f binding fabric. Fld and irn, as in Step 2, Figure 1. Open binding fabric and fld ends dwn, irn, and refld binding s yu have 4 layers flded. Stitch arund all edges, using 1/8 seam. Cut a Velcr piece ¾. Sew ne piece t inside tp edge. Other piece t utside bttm edge. Make sure they will verlap and clse, frming a circle. Open scissr tab and mark the center. Place it vertically abve the scissr pcket, t the left f center. Center line f tab shuld be 1 ½ frm tp f pcket. Stitch nt lining thrugh center line.

6 9. Small vinyl pcket Using directins frm Step 2, Figure 1, make additinal binding fr edges f pcket, r use stre bught Bias Tape as binding (narrw will be best fr this pcket). Attach binding t right side and bttm f pcket nly, mitering the crner. Cut 3 piece f Velcr. Attach ne piece t uter side f binding fr tp f pcket. Be sure yu nly sew thrugh tp half (2 layers). Attach tp edge binding t the pcket, finishing the right side. Place pcket n lining, tp f pcket 6 ¾ frm bttm f lining, and left side lined up with lining. Line up the secnd piece f Velcr with the piece n the pcket. Stitch int place, thrugh the lining fabric. Tp stitch right side and bttm f the pcket t lining. Stitch left edge, using scant ¼ seam. 10. Thread lps Stitch tp edge f 5 piece f elastic t lining, ¼ ½ belw bbbin pcket. Have right edge f elastic 1 frm scissr pcket. Measure dwn 2 n elastic and mark with pin. Measure frm where yu attached the elastic 1 ¼ dwn. Pin elastic at the 2 mark n this line and stitch thrugh. Repeat fr ne mre lp. Trim excess elastic. NOTE: Yu may adjust the lp sizes t fit yur spls f thread. Yu may want t use Fray Check n the cut edges f elastic. 11. Attach lining t uter bag Make tab fr uter bag clsure using 6 piece f binding fabric. Fld as in Step 2, Figure 1. Fld clsed s there are fur layers. Tp stitch lng sides, using 1/8 seam. Fld t frm tab, irn triangle fld. Yu may als stitch the triangle t the lng tabs if yu desire. Find center f quilted fabric. Place tab with uter pint against uter fabric, raw edges lined up n end, tab centered. Pin r sew a scant ¼ seam t keep tab in place. Place lining piece n uter fabric, right sides tgether. Make sure the tp f lining is at the tp where the tab is. Stitch all edges, using ¼ seam, leaving abut 3 pen n ne side fr turning. Trim bulk frm batting and trim crners. Turn right side ut and press, tucking in raw edges and being careful t nt irn ver vinyl. Hand stitch pening clsed. 12. Attach zippered pcket t bag Place vinyl zippered pcket n ntebk and ruler pcket. Line up with bttm f pcket, zipper will be twards tte tp. Make sure sides are centered as well. Tp stitch the bttm thrugh all thicknesses, ¼ frm bttm f zipper pcket. 13. Finishing Measure 4 dwn frm tp f bag, draw line acrss. Stitch thrugh all layers n line. Clse bag, flding bttm up first, then the tp dwn. Measure fr 1 1 /8 buttn placement and attach clsure buttn. Yu may want t add small decrative buttns t thimble pcket and needle and pins cases as well. Ready t fill with yur sewing supplies and prject and take alng wherever yu g.
