2 The Drawing Canvas The Drawing Canvas prvides a clean wrking area fr creating graphics frm a variety f shapes, pictures, and clipart. In the Drawing Canvas, graphics can be gruped and arranged easily. The Drawing Canvas cnstrains the size f graphics t fit within the Drawing Canvas. Creating the Drawing Canvas Click in the dcument where the Drawing Canvas is t be placed. On the Ribbn, click n the Insert tab. In the Illustratins grup, click n the Shapes buttn and chse New Drawing Canvas. Shapes Inserting a Shape On the Ribbn, click n the Frmat tab f the Drawing Tls. In the Insert Shapes grup, click n the desire shape. Mve the cursr int the Drawing Canvas. Click and drag t create the desired shape. Resizing a Shape Click n the edge f the shape. Click n ne f the handles (the marks at the crners and the middle f the sides) and drag t the desired size. Mving a Shape Click n the edge f the shape. Place the cursr n the edge f the shape. (The cursr becmes a fur-headed arrw.) Click and drag the shape t the desired lcatin. Reshaping a Shape Shapes that have a yellw diamnd can be reshaped. i. e. A banner made wider t hld mre text. Click n the shape. Click n the yellw diamnd and drag t the desired shape r psitin. Deleting a Shape Click n the shape. Press the Delete key. Adding Text t a Shape Click n the desired shape. Right click n the shape and select Add Text r Edit Text. Enter the desired text. Frmat the text using the Mini Tlbar r the Fnt grup f the Hme tab. The shape may need t be resized. Page 2

3 Changing a Shape Duble click n the edge f the shape. Click n the Frmat tab f the Text Bx Tls. In the Text Bx Styles grup, click n the Change Shape buttn and chse the desired shape. The shape may need t be resized if text has been added t the shape. Cnnecting Shapes On the Ribbn, click n the Frmat tab f the Drawing Tls. In the Insert Shapes grup, click n the Mre buttn (bttm dwn arrw) f the styles windw. Click n the desired line. Mve the cursr int the Drawing Canvas ver ne f the shapes t be cnnected. Ntice that shape has dts in the utline f the shape. Click n the desired dt n the edge f the shape and drag the line t the desired dt n the ther shape that is t be cnnected. Nte Graphics with cnnectins keep the cnnectins when they are mved in the Drawing Canvas. Adjusting the Line Click n the line. Click n the dt at the end f the line and drag it t the desired lcatin. OR click in the middle f the line and mve it t the desired lcatin. T change the clr r the width f the line, right click n the line and chse Frmat AutShape. In the Line sectin, change the Clr, Dashed, and Weight as desired. In the Arrws sectin, change the Begin style, Begin size, End style, and End size as desired. Click n OK. Deleting the Line Click n the line. Press the Delete key. Shape Styles Styles can be quickly applied t shapes. Duble click n the desired shape r the edge f the shape. The Frmat tab f the Drawing Tls appears. In the Shape Styles grup, click n the Mre buttn (bttm dwn arrw) f the styles windw. Click n the desired style. 4 Changing the Shape Fill Duble click n the desired shape r the edge f the shape. In the Shape Styles grup, click n the Shape Fill buttn and chse the desired fill. Chices include Theme Clrs, Standard Clrs, Picture, Gradient, and Texture. Nte Hlding the cursr ver a fill withut clicking displays the shape r bject with that fill. Changing the Shape Outline Duble click n the desired shape r the edge f the shape. In the Shape Styles grup, click n the Shape Outline buttn and chse the desired utline. Chices include Theme Clrs, Standard Clrs, Weight, Dashes, and Arrws. Nte Hlding the cursr ver an utline withut clicking displays the shape r bject with that utline. 3-D Effects Duble click n the desired shape r bject. The Frmat tab f the Text Bx Tls appears. In the 3-D Effects grup, click n the 3-D Effects buttn and chse the desired effect. T change the angle f view, click n the apprpriate buttn: Tilt Right, Tilt Left, Tilt Up, r Tilt Dwn. Pictures and Clip Art Inserting Pictures On the Ribbn, click n the Insert tab. In the Illustratins grup, click n the Pictures buttn. Navigate t the lcatin f the picture. Click n the desired picture. Click n the Open buttn. Large pictures are resized t fit within the Drawing Canvas. Inserting Clip Art On the Ribbn, click n the Insert tab. In the Illustratins grup, click n the Clip Art buttn. In the Clip Art Pane, type a wrd in the Search text bx and click n the G buttn. Scrll thrugh the cllectin and find the desired picture. Click n the desire picture. Large clip art is resized t fit within the Drawing Canvas. Arranging Pictures r Clip Art Click n the desired picture r clip art and drag it t the desired lcatin. Nte Dragging the picture r clip art ut f the Drawing Canvas remves it frm the Drawing Canvas. Page 4

5 Deleting Pictures r Clip Art Click n the picture r clip art t be deleted. Press the Delete key n the keybard. Picture Styles Pictures can be changed in a variety f ways. Duble click n the desired picture. The Picture Tls Frmat tab appears. Brightness and Cntrast In the Adjust grup, click n the Brightness buttn t adjust the brightness. In the Adjust grup, click n the Cntrast buttn t adjust the cntrast. Shadw Effects In the Shadw Effects grup, click n the Shadw Effects buttn t adjust the shadw. T change the lcatin f the shadw, click n the apprpriate buttn: Nudge Shadw Right, Nudge Shadw Left, Nudge Shadw Up, r Nudge Shadw Dwn. Brder In the Brder grup, click n the Picture Brder buttn t assign a clr fr the brder r t remve the clr. In the Brder grup, click n the Dashes buttn t adjust the type f brder. In the Brder grup, click n the Weight buttn t adjust the width f the brder. Arranging In the Arrange grup, click n the Bring t Frnt buttn t bring the selected graphic t the tp. In the Arrange grup, click n the Send t Back buttn t send the graphic t the bttm. In the Arrange grup, click n the Align buttn t adjust the selected picture(s) Left, Center, Right, Tp, Middle, r Bttm. If multiple pictures have been chsen, the Align buttn can be used t distribute the hrizntally r vertically in the drawing canvas. T rtate the graphic, click n the graphic and click n the green dt abve the graphic t rtate it. Size In the Size grup, click n the Crp buttn t crp the graphic. Click n a dark line r dark angle n the edge f the graphic and drag it t achieve the desire results. In the Size grup, click in the Height bx, enter the desired size, and then press the Enter key n the keybard. In the Size grup, click n the Width bx, enter the desired size, and then press the Enter key n the keybard. Nte The prgram maintains prprtinality f the image. Only the height f the width needs t be entered. Crpping r Enlarging the Drawing Canvas Click in the drawing canvas. Place the cursr ver a crner f the drawing canvas r the middle f the edge f the drawing canvas. (The cursr changes t a dark crner angle r a dark T.) Click and drag the drawing canvas t the desired size. Nte The actual size f the drawing canvas can be determined by lking at the Size grup n the Frmat tab f the Drawing Tls r by using the ruler. 6 Mving the Drawing Canvas Click in the drawing canvas. Place the cursr ver the edge f the drawing canvas. (The cursr changes t a fur-headed arrw.) Click and drag the drawing canvas t the desired lcatin. Text Wrap arund the Drawing Canvas The default is fr the drawing canvas t be in line with text. The drawing canvas acts like a typed letter. T change the text wrap: Click n the drawing canvas. Click n the Frmat tab f the Drawing Tls. In the Arrange grup, click n the Text Wrapping buttn and chse Square. The text will nw wrap arund the drawing canvas. Cpying the Drawing Canvas Click in the drawing canvas. Click n the edge f the drawing canvas. Hld dwn the Cntrl key and press the C. Pasting the Drawing Canvas Click in the dcument where the drawing canvas is t be pasted. Hld dwn the Cntrl key and press the V Deleting the Drawing Canvas Click in the drawing canvas. Click n the edge f the drawing canvas. Press the Delete key n the keybard. Drawing Canvas Styles In the Shape Styles grup f the Drawing Tls Frmat tab, place the cursr ver the desired style. Nte Live Preview displays the style as if it were applied t the drawing canvas when the cursr is held ver a style. Click n the Mre buttn f the Shape Styles bx t see all f the available styles. Click n the desired style. Changing the Fill In the Shape Styles grup f the Drawing Tls Frmat tab, click n the Shape Fill buttn and chse the desired fill. In additin t clrs, ptins are available fr Picture, Gradient, Texture, and Pattern. T remve the fill, click n the Shape Fill buttn and chse N Fill. Page 6

7 Changing the Outline In the Shape Styles grup f the Drawing Tls Frmat tab, click n the Shape Outline buttn and chse the desired utline. In additin t clrs, ptins are available fr Weight, Dashes, and Pattern. T remve the utline, click n the Shape Outline buttn and chse N Outline. Changing the Shape In the Shape Styles grup f the Drawing Tls Frmat tab, click n the Change Shape buttn and chse the desired shape. The grups f shapes include Basic Shapes, Blck Arrws, Flwchart, Calluts, and Stars and Banners. Shadw Effects 3-D Effects In the Shadw Effects grup f the Drawing Tls Frmat tab, click n the Shadw Effects buttn and chse the desired shadw. T change the lcatin f the shadw, click n the apprpriate buttn: Nudge Shadw Right, Nudge Shadw Left, Nudge Shadw Up, r Nudge Shadw Dwn. T remve the shadw effect, click n the Shadw Effect buttn and chse N Shadw Effect. In the 3-D Effects grup f the Drawing Tls Frmat tab, click n the 3-D Effects buttn and chse the desired effect. T change the angle f the 3-D effect, click n the apprpriate buttn: Tilt Right, Tilt Left, Tilt Up, r Tilt Dwn. T remve the shadw effect, click n the 3-D Effect buttn and chse N 3-D Effect. Arranging the Drawing Canvas Tls fr arranging the drawing canvas are lcated in the Arrange grup f the Drawing Tls Frmat tab. T allw the drawing canvas t be placed n the page freely, click n the Text Wrapping buttn and chse Square. T psitin the drawing canvas in a specific lcatin, click n the Psitin buttn and chse the desired psitin. T place the drawing canvas behind anther graphic r text, click n the Send t Back dwn arrw and chse the desired place, (Send t Back, Send Backward, r Send Behind Text). T place the drawing canvas in frnt f anther graphic r text, click n the Bring t Frnt dwn arrw and chse the desired place, (Bring t Frnt, Bring Frward, r Bring in Frnt f Text). T align the drawing canvas n the page, click n the Align buttn and chse the desired alignment. T rtate r flip the drawing canvas n the page, click n the Rtate buttn and chse the desired effect. In the 3-D Effects grup f the Drawing Tls Frmat tab, click n the 3-D Effects buttn and chse the desired effect. Page 7

8 Gruping Gruping keeps all f the parts mving as a unit. Ungruping allws parts t be mved. Regruping places them back tgether as a single unit. In the Arrange grup f the Drawing Tls Frmat tab, click n the Grup buttn and chse Ungrup. Click n the individual part f the drawing canvas t be mved. (It can even be mved utside f the drawing canvas.) In the Arrange grup f the Drawing Tls Frmat tab, click n the Grup buttn and chse Regrup. Page 8
