1 Mpressive Threadz Studi Sewing Schl The Six-Gre Skirt Yu Need: Frnt Yur drafted six-gre skirt pattern pieces Fashin fabric Interfacing Thread (matching clr) 9 regular skirt zipper Sewing machine Scissrs Straight pins Hand needle Back D yu need t pre-shrink yur fabric? If yu plan t wash yur skirt and yu think yur fabric may shrink a lt, wash and dry yur fabric befre yu cut yur skirt. D yu knw which side is the right side f yur fabric? Cmpare bth sides f the fabric, side by side. With printed cttn and sme ther fabrics, it shuld be bvius which side is the right side. Sme fabrics have wrds printed n the selvedge. The side with the wrds will be the right side. If yu have a fabric that s hard t tell which side is the right side, ask smene fr their pinin. Once yu have decided which side is the right side f yur fabric, mark the wrng side f the fabric. Yu can d this by making light marks with a dressmaker s pencil r tailr s chalk n the wrng side, r by putting a piece f tape n the wrng side. Page 1 f 5 D.L. 2 Cutting the Skirt: Press yur fabric. Make sure yur fabric is flat and smth befre yu lay and pin yur pattern pieces. When yu fld the fabric, make sure all layers are flat and smth. Any flds in the fabric will change the shape f yur pattern piece and affect the fit f yur skirt. Cut yur skirt pieces frm yur fashin fabric fllwing the apprpriate layut fr yur fabric and size. 4 Cutting Ntes: Use 1/4 clips t mark all the ntches. Frnt Center Gre and Back Center Gre Put a 1/4" clip n the center fld at the waistline. This marks the middle f the skirt. Waistband Put a 1/4 clip at the center f the waistband (the line where the right side seam matches). Put a 1/4" clip at each end f the waistband that is 3/4" frm the end f the waistband. This marks the left side seam. Fld the left side seam clip t meet the right side seam clip and put a 1/4" clip at each fld. This marks the center frnt and center back. Sewing Machine: Set yur machine t a medium stitch length. Test yur stitching n a scrap f yur fashin fabric. Adjust tensin s upper and bbbin threads are balanced and yur seam des nt pucker. Sewing Directins: Decide the type f seam yu will use. Decide hw yu will finish yur seam edges. Nte: Yu cannt use the French seam fr the left side seam, the side that gets the zipper. All seam allwances are 3/4 wide. Pin Right and Left Frnt Gres t Center Frnt Gre, right sides tgether, matching the single ntches. The Center Frnt Gre will be the middle panel when yu are dne. Stitch and finish yur seams using yur chsen seam technique. Press seams pen. This is yur skirt frnt. Seams stitched and finished. Pin Right and Left Back Gres t Center Back Gre, right sides tgether, matching the triple ntches. The Center Back Gre will be the middle panel when yu are dne. Stitch and finish yur seams using yur chsen seam technique. Press seams pen. This is yur skirt back Pin skirt frnt t the skirt back at the right side seam, right sides tgether, matching the duble ntch. Stitch and finish yur seam using yur chsen seam technique. Press seam pen. Stitch arund the waistline, right side f the fabric facing up, 5/8 frm the waistline edge. Yu will use this stitching t ease in any fullness in the waist f skirt. Press the glue side f the interfacing t the wrng side f the waistband. Use the flded waistband technique (quick methd) t attach waistband t skirt. When pinning the skirt t the waistband, right sides tgether, match the right side seam t the clip in the middle f the waistband. 5 waistband. Pull n the ease stitching t ease in any fullness s the skirt lays flat n the waistband. Sew and cmplete the waistband. Press interfacing t wrng side f waistband. Pin waistband t skirt, matching clips and ends. Using the centered zipper technique, sew and finish the left side seam, and sew in the zipper with the zipper stp cming t the tp f the waistband. Fld ver the zipper tape and use hand stitches t tack int place. Zipper stp at tp f waistband. Fld ver zipper tape and tack. Decide the type f hem technique yu will use fr this skirt.
