Box 59 SAN REMO 3925 Deadline for next newsletter May Contact Debbie Love on or President s Report As we approach the month of May, I would like to wish all mothers, grandmothers, Aunties and sisters, nieces and daughters a very happy Mother s Day. I look forward to catching up with everyone over the Patches Mother s Day Weekend at CYC at Cowes. All members are invited to visit the retreat over the weekend. You never know, you may even want to put your name down for next year and attend yourself. A big thank you to Annemarie Campbell who taught us all an efficient method of binding so as to complete our quilts with an expert finish. Even though I struggled initially with measurements, fold angles and the bobbin running out (don t we all hate that!), the end result was wonderful. I look forward to using this new technique on many quilts over the next few months. Thanks again Annemarie for your patience and sharing your knowledge. Speaking of workshops it is with regret we have to postpone Keryn Beischer s Christmas in June Workshop that was to be held on Saturday 18th June We hope to have the workshop later in the year, so keep reading the newsletter for up to date information. In this newsletter we have details of the Bus Trip to the Quilt Show at Jeff s Shed in July, The Monday after the Mother s Day Weekend Workshop with Wendy Williams, the Biggest Morning Tea Cancer Fundraiser held on a Monday evening and so many other items and events. The newsletter is the Committee s way to communicate with the members, so please read it monthly and stay in tune. I now have three black and white Challenge Blocks already in my possession, so get those ideas out of your head and into the fabric. Until Next Time Michelle Trewin WHEN WE MEET!! The Nocturnals meet at the Newhaven Hall, Cleeland St., Newhaven, each Monday from 7:30pm. The Heritage Group meet at the Cultural Centre, 89 Thompson Ave., Cowes, on the last Tuesday of each month from 10:30am Marie s Day is the second Tuesday of each month at various members homes, from 10:30am. BYO lunch. Shearwater Group meet at the Newhaven Information Centre on the 1 st Tuesday of each month from 10.30am, Corinella Crafties meet at the Community Centre in Corinella on the 2 nd & 4 th Wednesday of the month from 10.00am

Blocks can be handed to Michelle or Debbie throughout the year and members can submit more than one block if they would like to. Happy sewing.

2 Challenge Block 2015 This year s challenge block theme is Black and White Members are asked to make a 12 ½ block using the colours black and white. This can be pieced, appliqued, embroidered or a combination of various techniques. Blocks can be handed to Michelle or Debbie throughout the year and members can submit more than one block if they would like to. Happy sewing Craft and Quilt Fair This year the bus trip to the Craft and Quilt Fair will be on Friday July 29th. The Phillip Island Patchworkers are organizing a bus to leave from Cowes in the morning, picking up willing participants along the way to the Exhibition Centre in Melbourne and then returning in the afternoon. The cost will be $40 for members and $45 for non members. The price includes the entrance fee into the show upon arrival. The more the merrier, and anyone is welcome to take advantage of taking the bus to the show, rather than driving and parking themselves. Please contact Debbie by phoning , telling her at a meeting, or by ing her at lovey2410@bigpond.com There are limited places so payment will be required to secure your place. We look forward to hearing from you. Please note: I know a list has gone around to see what your day preference for this trip was. However this is a new list so if you want to go you need to contact me to secure your place! Quilting Focus The online heart of quilting If you are travelling around the country and want to find out if there are current quilt exhibitions or quilt shops in the places you are visiting then a quick check on this website means you will never drive past a quilt shop or quilt exhibition again it even has a link to google maps!

3 Marie s Day Lyn Makin s lovely home was the venue for our last Marie s Day. We were warmly welcomed and enjoyed a day stitching and chatting as is our wont. We all sampled the delicious morning tea and, some of us, even had some with our lunch. Lyn showed us her newly set up sewing room, so neat and tidy and a perfect place for working and her latest quilt, beautifully embroidered and quilted. What a talented lady she is. Thank you, Lyn, for sharing your home with us. Beginners 2016 Our Beginners are all very enthusiastic and making great progress. They are just past halfway and their blocks are taking shape. Thank you to Debbie, Joan R, Joan B and Joan W for their guidance to the Beginners in the third and fourth lessons. It was great to see three of the Beginners at Annemarie s binding workshop the other night. Not only did they watch and listen they asked lots of questions. It seems as though they could be hooked as two of them have already joined our Group. Patches Report The Patches Weekend is almost upon us and the Patches Committee are busy with last minute organisation. To help with this could everyone return the raffle tickets, sold and unsold, with the money as soon as possible, please? If you can t get it to us before the Patches Weekend (6 8 May) you could bring it to the CYC during the weekend. We thank you all as the money raised from this raffle helps to keep the cost as low as possible for those who attend. We also extend a huge thank you to Sue and Sandy, from Sewing Connection, in Pakenham, and Brother for supplying the sewing machine for the raffle. Over the weekend we d love to see many of our members coming along to the CYC to see the five classes in operation. We do ask when you visit each class that you respect the tutor and students and make your visit as unobtrusive as possible. There will also be social groups and I m sure they d be happy to chat and show you what they are doing. You ll also be able to see the possible classes for 2017 and might want to put in an Expression of Interest. All we ll need is $5 and your address to put you on our list. Don t forget the Cot Quilt Challenge is open to all members whether coming to the Weekend or not. It could be a great way to make a quilt for our Comfort Quilt program and, possibly, win a prize. For further information contact anyone on the Patches Committee. Monday Workshop with Wendy Williams Round the Garden Venue Newhaven Yacht Club Time 9am 3pm BYO Lunch. Tea and coffee supplied. There are still a few places left if anyone is interested. The details were included in last month s newsletter along with a photo of part of the project.
