1 Welcome back members. Hope you all enjoyed the holiday season' and are ready for some interesting decoupage projects for The first thing I would like to discuss with you all is our workshop weekend at Crow's Nest. I have been in touch with the owners of the caravan park and they advise me that they are holding 3 cabins for our group. The cost will be $99.00 for two people per night. They are also now catering for meals. The Friday night dining is $20.00 per head and Saturday night is A La Carte. The Coffee shop is open every day. Sounds quite interesting! Please let us know if you are attending. This is such a good opportunity to discuss any work you need advice on, and everyone benefits from discussion and advice from other members. Secondly, I have had a call from the organiser of the World of Craft event, which is being held at the RNA showgrounds March 2 nd to 4 th. He would like the Decoupage Guild to be involved. From my understanding, he would like us to display some of our work, and also to have a class. I advised him that the show is a little too close and that I didn t thin k we would be able to arrange anything for this year, but I would put his suggestions to the meeting. Perhaps we could consider something for next year. What do members think? I really hope we will have a productive and pleasant decoupage year, and that you can all enjoy our wonderful craft. 2 Welcome to the 2018 DECOUPAGE YEAR! Trusting you are refreshed, inspired and enthusiastic in Guild endeavours especially the quest for new members to keep our group afloat. Much discussion has ensued as to how to best spend time at meetings and informal gatherings in between. Meetings are important to keep members informed and allow input, but I suggest should be strictly limited to 30 minutes. Here are some thoughts to achieve this end:- Agendas are forwarded with Minutes, and secretary be advised of other matters that should be included. Executive meet beforehand if necessary to report constructive suggestions thus limiting unnecessary discussion. Member/s be authorised to follow up on certain matters when necessary. Since the Library does not open until 10am which requires someone to be available at door (one member could be allotted this task). Meetings commence at 10am SHARP, and conclude so that chosen workshop may commence at 10.30am. (Morning cuppa and chatter take place before 10am). Any workshop planned should include some aspect of decoupage. Each gathering should be a time of sharing when work in progress is welcome for collective advice. Let it be a habit that we each bring 1 or 2 pieces for display. U3A WORKSHOP CABOOLTURE: Following up from the November Baubles workshop the Guild has been invited to instruct a workshop in Spectacle Lens Project in Caboolture for the U3A on February 22 nd. 10 participants enrolled as soon as enrolments opened. It would seem their members were favourably impressed with their completed baubles. Members are invited to help at this venture if able. BASIC COASTER PROJECT: There was a disappointing result from contacts made at the Craft Show for the November workshop, although a number of people did request information on future events, so s will be sent to this list of people for the February Workshop when a beginner s project is planned on a coaster (details listed below). Your attendance is especially important to encourage beginners at Workshops to which members of the public are invited. As mentioned previously without new members the Guild will cease to exist. CROWS NEST LIVE-IN-WORKSHOP: Please keep March 9-11 free for this. Firm numbers will be needed by February 11 meeting (details listed below) Page 2 of 7

3 BEGINNERS DECOUPAGE LESSONS: Plans are in hand for space at Strathpine to hold a Beginners Class over 4 weeks. Dates and details yet to be confirmed. DECOUPAGE DISPLAY IN GLASS CABINETS AT LIBRARY: Have you any pieces available for such a display? Please give this some thought and advise so that arrangements can be made when date is advised. GYMPIE ROTARY SPECTACULAR: The Guild has been invited to participate in this event planed for NOVEMBER 3-4. Although it is a little far away to gain members it is still a good opportunity to promote the art of decoupage and privately sell our pieces. Have you any thoughts to include in 2018? Your involvement and support is valued! Thankyou! Barbara Chapple (Secretary DGQ Inc) BEGINNERS COASTER PROJECT The workshop, February 11 will instruct the basic decoupage techniques on a drink coaster. Samples have been prepared each in 1 (one) of the 7 (seven) steps of decoupage. Those enrolled, other than members, will be provided with materials at a cost of $10. Members wishing to participate may do so free of charge (coaster supplied), but please bring your own tools and materials. This is part of the Guild quest to attract new members, so your co-operation is sought to attend and assist beginners with the procedure. Page 3 of 7

4 FEBRUARY 22 SPECTACTLE LENS PENDANT WORKSHOP Caboolture Branch U3A have organised this class for the Guild to instruct following several of their members enjoying the Christmas Bauble workshop held in November Page 4 of 7

5 Please feel free to join Heather and myself in this event on 22 nd February 2018, which we also hope will encourage more people to enjoy decoupage. CROWS NEST LIVE-IN-WORKSHOP - March 9-11 This is tentatively arranged at the CROWS NEST CARAVAN PARK (Phone ). Accommodation in cabins which we suggest people share. In past years some have arrived on Friday afternoon to enable an early start on Saturday morning; dinner is enjoyed together on Saturday evening and those able to stay take advantage of Sunday morning to work on projects. There is no cost other than accommodation and food. Saturday lunch usually takes the form bread rolls and salad cost of ingredients shared ingredients. Members book their own accommodation by phoning the Park. A final decision and arrangements for the venture will need to be made NO LATER THAN FEBRUARY 11 Please indicate your intention if you are able to attend. 6 YOUR IDEAS ARE NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE 2018 AGENDA DATES, IDEAS and VENUES are open to your suggestion. At least an activity per month is essential to encourage and inspire one another. FATIGUE Health TIP/Recipe A common folk remedy to help recover from overwork is to drink half a tumbler of warm water to which is added one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and one teaspoon of honey. Sip slowly whilst at the same time relaxing. TRANQUILLISER Honey has a sedative quality, which quietens the body, for a good night s sleep drink camomile tea sweetened with honey. You really get a good night s sleep. Add a couple of fresh mint leaves to add a bit more interest to the drink. Drink before retiring. Page 6 of 7
