2 Welcome Welcome, fellow Seer, to this most mystical of gatherings, for upon these days of reckoning, we shall be consulting the Emperor s Tarot. A mystical deck of cards, it is said they were first designed by the most venerable Emperor himself, and may be used by those with the correct skills to divine the future. Their use is banned on most planets, seen as a manifestation of powers of the warp. Terrified Imperial authorities fear that unchecked psykers will predict the doom of humanity, or the rise of the Great Beast. On backwater planets, their use is, while illegal, very common. On almost every underhive street corner, tricksters and fortune-tellers will ply their trade, using the Emperor s Tarot to predict the most trivial of things, unaware of the terrible risks they are taking. This weekend, we offer you the chance to manipulate your very own deck of The Emperor s Tarot as you play exciting games of Warhammer 40,000. Will the cards fall in your favour or will you be damned for all eternity? Only time will tell What is Throne of Skulls? Throne of Skulls is a gaming event all about fun, friendly battles in a relaxed atmosphere. You ll get to play some great games against other like-minded players in the unique atmosphere of the spectacular Warhammer World Event Hall. No matter whether you re a seasoned player or if this will be your first step into playing our games, the focus for this event is on camaraderie and playing in the spirit of the game; that is to say non-competitive and fair play are the order of the day. Event Essentials th th Date: February System: Warhammer 40,000 Army Size: 1,500 points Number of games: 5 Army Selection: Battle Forged or Unbound (you choose). Scenarios in use: Maelstrom of War Publications in use: All Warhammer 40,000 publications from Games Workshop, including Black Library, White Dwarf and Forge World (excluding Horus Heresy publications). Additional: All models in your collection must be comprised entirely of Games Workshop miniatures and be fully assembled, painted and based. Each model must fully represent what you have presented on your army list, including armour, weapon options, mounts, banners etc. Included in ticket price: Food: We will provide lunch for you on both the Saturday and Sunday. Meals are prepared on the day and served fresh in our restaurant. All dietary requirements can be catered for. Cards: At registration, you will be given your very own deck of Emperor s Tarot cards, specifically designed for this event. More on these later! Painting and Basing Fully painted armies are a sight to behold, and at this event we ask that every model you use is fully painted and based. We will ask you during registration if you have any unpainted or unbased models left to finish. If you do, let us know and we will tell you what needs to be done in order to make the models up to standard for the event. Then we will do our best to give you the time and space to get your models finished. If you have a model which is unfinished, then we will politely ask you to remove it from the table, as we are obliged to protect the experience of every attendant - we all want to play against fully painted armies, and this event is designed to give everyone the opportunity to do just that. If you aren t sure what you need to do, give us a call on and we will happily talk you through what we look for.

We require that all of the miniatures you bring have been produced by Games Workshop and are fully assembled, painted and based. For the sake of clarity for your opponents, and to avoid mid-game confusion, we also require that each model represents exactly what it is on your army list (including all weapons and equipment). If in doubt, us the Warhammer World handy guide to using conversions: Are you planning on using converted models or proxy models* in your army? YES Contact us at whworldevents@gwplc.com or ring us on and check to make sure your conversion or proxy is appropriate for our events NO Carry on! Nothing to worry about other than getting it all built, painted and based in time! Food We will be providing lunch for you on both days - Saturday and Sunday. The menu is decided closer to date by our expert chefs, and we make sure that a wide variety of dietary requirements are catered for. If you can let us know before the event then we can easily accommodate any requests, but if you can t (or forget!) don t worry - we will also circle the hall during the first game asking for any specific requests and you can inform us then too. Games Over the course of the weekend, you will get to play 5 great games of Warhammer 40,000 against like-minded opponents, all of which will last up to two and a half hours. Your opponents will be randomly selected for you using our very own set of Tarot cards (codename: Excel ). We will post the new tables up before each game; simply make your way to your new table, meet your next opponent and start setting up. In each game, you will be playing the Maelstrom of War scenarios, so don t forget your Tactical Objectives!

4 The Emperor s Tarot When you register at the event, you will be given a deck of special Emperor s Tarot cards. When you open your deck and examine them, you will see that each card has a number of things on them: Title: The name of that Tarot Card Artwork: All cards will have unique art work denoting the subject of the card. Flavour Text: This text describes the card, as a seer would. Timing: All Tarot Cards can be played to gain in-game effects should you wish. The Timing reveals when this card can be used. Effect: This describes the in-game effect of this card should you choose to play it. Once the effect has taken place, discard the card. D6 Modifier: Instead of choosing to use the card s effect, you may instead choose use one card to modify a single one of your D6 rolls by the amount shown. Ignore the Timing here; the roll is modified immediately after it is made. Once the D6 roll has been modified, discard the card. Note: The card shown here is an early version, designed to show how the cards will work in the game. The final designs will be revealed before the event; keep your eyes on the Warhammer World website and Facebook page to be the first to see them! Victory Points: This is the number of Victory Points that this card is worth if it is still in your hand at the end of the game. Using The Emperor s Tarot Cards Before the game begins (but after set up and any Seize the Initiative rolls have been made), each player draws three cards into their hand, and will have the opportunity to gain more as the game goes on (see the Emperor s Tarot scenario later on). If these cards are in your hand at the end of the game, they are worth the number of Victory Points shown on the bottom right of the card. Alternatively, each card can be used in one of two ways should you wish to. You may choose to either: Play the card at the timing specified to gain the effect on the card. This card is then discarded. Play the card to modify any single D6 roll made by you by the amount shown on the bottom left of the card. This card is then discarded. Of course, once the card is discarded, you lose those Victory Points, so think carefully before you use it! The more effective the card is should you play it, the more Victory Points it is worth such is the fickle nature of the Emperor s Tarot! Scoring Throughout the event, you ll earn Victory Points in your games. At the end of each game, simply record how Victory Points you earned from the Emperor s Tarot cards you were holding when the game ended. How many Victory Points, combined with how many Favourite Game Votes (see next page) you score will help determine your position in the final positions of the event.

5 Favourite Game Votes Favourite Game Votes are simple - just pick the game you enjoyed the most that weekend. It s a great way to acknowledge a really fun game, an opponent with whom you had a great rapport, or maybe it was just that their army looked fantastic. Votes are taken at the end of the weekend with the results of your final game, so please show your appreciation of your favourite opponent. How to win Throne of Skulls Your Tarot Score At the end of the weekend, we will create your Tarot score by multiplying the total number of Victory Points you have scored throughout the weekend by the total number of Favourite Game Votes you have received from your opponents. For example, if you had scored 45 Victory Points and received 3 Favourite Game Votes, your Tarot score would be 135 (45x3). At the end of the event, the player with the highest Tarot Score will be crowned the winner and the Throne of Skulls trophy shall be theirs. Painting Competitions at Throne of Skulls Legends gives you the chance to show off your painting skills with single models and units. Simply enter the relevant category when it s open; once all the entries are in, we will ask all the players to vote for their favourites. The player that earns the most votes in each category will be presented the relevant prize at the Award Ceremony. (please note: only miniatures from your Throne of Skulls army may be entered into this competition). Hero of Legend: All types of Infantry, Cavalry, Bikes and Jetbikes Beast of Legend: Monstrous Creatures, Flying Monstrous Creatures Engine of Legend: All vehicles and Artillery. Company of Legend: Any unit of 5 or less Infantry or cavalry on 40mm bases or smaller or 3 or less Cavalry, Bikes, Jetbikes or Infantry on 50mm bases or larger. The Best Army Competition It s an honour for any hobbyist to have their army nominated by the Events team for the Best Army competition. Make sure you show your appreciation by voting for your favourite collection from those selected during Sunday lunch time. The player who receives the most number of votes will be earn the Best Army award and glory shall also be theirs! Award Ceremony At the end of Throne of Skulls, we will hold an Awards Ceremony where recognise the achievements earned over the course of the event. We will be presenting the following awards: Legends Painting Competition Winners Best Army Nominations The Best Army The Imperial Seer to the player who scored the most Victory Points from The Emperor s Tarot in their games.
