1 CLASS TIMETABLE - Year 2015 PATCHWORK NEW Encompassing Stars 2 Day Class A two day class for all skill levels teaches a unique approach to drafting accurate and beautiful stars easily using Debby s special STARWHIZ tool (included in class fee) Finally drafting these stars can be FUN instead of technically stressful. This class includes pattern and template making for any shape star, with plain or split rays, multiple centres and optional methods for setting stars in background. Instructions are covered on paper, machine or hand piecing. Saturday February 21 st + Saturday February 28th 9.30am 4.30pm both days Class Fee = $94.00 (includes notes, patterns and Starwhiz tool) + materials and accessories will be required. Overlocking Class 1 - Beginner s to Intermediate Full Day This class is open to all models of overlockers providing that it has a rolled hem capability and is a four thread. During this class you will create a bag suitable to fit an ipad or similar with your overlocker using 3 or 4 thread overlocking, rolled hemming and flatlock stitching. Along the way you will become more confident with threading, changing threads and setting tensions. This is a great class for anyone who has just purchased an overlocker or anyone who feels a little nervous about the operation of their overlocker. DAY CLASS Tuesday March 3 rd 9.30am-4.30pm OR DAY CLASS Tuesday July 7 th 9.30am 4.30pm NIGHT CLASS Thursday May 7 th + Thursday May 14 th 6pm 9pm (2 sessions = one class) Class Fee = $ fabric and supplies will be required. Tutor - Linda PATCHWORK NEW Beginner s Bag 2 Day Class This two day class is suitable for the absolute novice. A useful tote bag is created while students learn basics about fabrics, squaring, cutting, piecing and pattern reading. General machine instruction is given. Students also learn the easy way to do strip piecing, half-square triangles, flying geese and simple machine quilting. Detailed coloured notes are provided to help students remember every step. This is a very satisfying project and great introduction to quilting. Friday March 13 th 9.30am 4.30pm + Friday March 20 th 9.30am 4.30pm Class Fee = $79.00 (includes notes) + materials and accessories will be required. PATCHWORK NEW Passion in Design Lecture/Demonstration 3 hours This is a different design class/workshop. Typical rules don t apply. Exercises will be explored to gain insights on ways to switch on the creative part of your brain so you have the freedom to create what you really want to create! A class where students explore what makes THEM tick, and also explore strategies to improve specific artistic skills so they can express their passions in the quilter s mediums. ALL skill levels EVENING Saturday April 11th 6pm-9pm Class Fee = $25. 1

2 QUILTING NEW Butterfly Kisses Class 2 Day Class Encaptured collage technique along with fabric painting creates this delightful pattern. There will be three butterfly designs to choose from. This class will suit quilters with a steady hand for painting and cutting. The 2012 Hoffman challenge winning quilt Emerged serves as the basis for the pattern of Butterfly kisses. Some pre-preparation work makes this simple yet stunning quilt achievable. All fabrics should be 100% cotton, prewashed and ironed Saturday May 16 th + Saturday May 23 rd 9.30am 4.30pm both days Class Fee = $89.00 (includes notes) + some materials and accessories will be required. PATCHWORK NEW Shaper Stars 1 Day Class Let the fun begin! This one day class is simply delightful. Mariner s compass star patterns are pre-prepared as the basis for creating these unique stars. Shapes are incorporated by combining smaller patterns to add interest. Direct application makes otherwise impossible shapes simple and effective. Students should be able to complete a minimum of three stars during the class and be confident of being able to use these patterns and techniques to prepare future projects. Some machine quilting skills a bonus but not required. Saturday May 30 th 9.30am 4.30pm Class Fee = $47.00 (includes notes) + materials and accessories will be required. Machine Quilting Class One Where to begin? Full Day This is the first of the machine quilting series and will guide you right from the start of putting your quilt layers together in preparation of quilting. Topics covered will include basting for machine quilting, stitching in the ditch, simple straight line quilting ideas using a walking foot. Thursday June 11th 9.30am 4.30pm Class Fee = $ some materials/accessories required. Tutor Suzy Machine Quilting Class Two Exploring Free Motion Quilting Full Day This class leads on from Class One and is ideal for those who have never tried free motion stitching before or are just beginning to explore this exciting new world. You will learn how to fill an empty space or background within your quilts with a variety of meandering stitching including stippling and continuous line patterns that lead to feathers. Thursday June25th 9.30am 4.30pm Class Fee = $ some materials/accessories required. Tutor Suzy Getting to Know Your Janome Sewing Machine Class Computerised models Full Day This is the perfect class for owners of fully electronic/computerised machines who would like to establish a relationship with their machine and learn more about them and also the use of several feet/attachments. A small quilt/mat will be made with the kit supplied. It will involve using the quarter inch seam foot for piecing including clever folded bow tie blocks, applique foot, ribbon/sequin foot, border guide foot, buttonholes and darning foot. Along the way you will learn how to utilize your machine features such as the needle up/down button, locking stitch button and memory keys (if your model has these). 3 Getting to Know Your Mechanical Sewing Machine Class - The aim of this class is to increase your confidence when using your mechanical sewing machine. You may have recently purchased one and have not had time to get to know it yet or perhaps you have had one sitting in the cupboard and would really like to learn more about it so it feels natural when operating. Topics covered will include threading, altering the stitch width on zig-zag, creating a quarter inch seam utilizing the feet that come with your machine and making buttonholes. You will create a simple yet stylish looking pin cushion. Tuesday June 23 rd 9.30am pm Class Fee = $ some materials will be required. Tutor - Linda 3 hours Getting to Know Your Janome Computerised Sewing Machine Class -Full Day This is the perfect class for owners of fully electronic/computerised machines who would like to establish a relationship with their machine and learn more about them and also the use of several feet/attachments. You can choose from two designs a four sided filled triangle or Eiffel Tower. These can be used as a door stop, large pin cushion or decoration. Each side will cover a technique such as applique, using the cording foot, free motion stitching, reverse bobbin work, buttonholes, fancy stitching. DAY Tuesday June 30 th 9.30am 4.30pm (half an hour lunch break) NIGHTS Thursday Ocober 1 st + Thursday October 8 th (two sessions = one class) Class Fee = $ some materials will be required. Tutor - Linda Felting/Embellishment Class for the FM725 Machine This class is designed for existing owners of the Janome FM725 Felting/Embellishing machine however, there shall be two machines available to use during the class for those who would like to give it a try - please book early to reserve the machine. You will work with wool roving, black batting, yarns and organza to create different effects on a black felt piece that can be crafted into a folder cover. Thursday July 16 th 9.30am pm 4 hours (includes 1/2hr lunch break) Class Fee = $35.00* *This includes ALL materials Tutor - Linda NEW Quilt Binding Class 4 Hours Learn the basics of quilt binding. The class will include a demonstration of two basic binding methods and two decorative bindings. Try two methods in class on a simple placemat. Tutor - Suzy CRAFT NEW Santa Sleigh & Reindeer 2 Day Class Make yourself a beautiful matching set of a Reindeer & Santa Sleigh to display this Christmas! The Sleigh looks stunning displayed full of candy. Tuesday 28 July DAY 1 - SLEIGH - 9am pm Requires basic hand work/stitching with some easy machine work. The sleigh will be easily completed at home. Tuesday 4 August DAY 2 - REINDEER - 9am pm Requires machine work & stuffing with hand finishing Tuesday July 28 th + Tuesday August 4 th 9.00am 4.30pm (two sessions = one class) Class Fee = $ $30 For Patterns & Kit* + some extra materials required. 4 Overlocking Class 2 - Intermediate to Advanced Full Day Overlocking Class 1 must be completed before attending Class 2 as it is necessary to have basic threading and handling skills. This class takes your overlocker to the next level and explores the use of a cording foot to attach cord using a rolled hem stitch, the gathering attachment to create frills, flatlocking, elastic attachment and piping foot. A designer carry bag will be the project. Please note: if you own a model other than a Janome you will need to supply certain feet/attachments as outlined in the supply list. Janome owners may borrow these during class please provide your model details. NIGHT Thursday August 6 th + Thursday August 13 th 6pm 9.30pm (2 sessions = one class) DAY Tuesday April 21 st 9.30am 4.30pm DAY Tuesday September 22 nd 9.30am-4.30pm Class Fee = $ materials will be required. Tutor Linda PHOTO TO FOLLOW CRAFT NEW Mr Redbird s Christmas Basket 2 x ½ Day Class Mr Redbird's Christmas Basket is an easy quick hand-stitchery design with easy machine work and hand finishing. The difficult choice will be...make it as gift to give or keep it for yourself? Maybe you will have to make two? Tuesday 18 August - DAY 1 (half day) 9.30am (midday) Trace and begin stitcheries (or use pre-printed panel**). Make lining of basket. Stitcheries to be completed at home before Day 2. Tuesday 25 August - DAY 2 (half day) 9.30am (midday) Colour-in, add beads & Construct. (It is possible to machine finish or hand quilt this basket, or a combination of both.) ** OPTIONAL : COLOUR (Pen outline only) PRE-PRINTED MR REDBIRD PANELS WILL BE AVAILABLE ON THE DAY FOR YOU TO PURCHASE WITH A WHITE OR CREAM CALICO BACKGROUND. Tutor Pam White CRAFT NEW Christmas Candy Train 2 Day Class CHRISTMAS CANDY TRAIN This Fabulous Christmas Candy Train will become the new family favourite heirloom you want to bring out every Christmas to be the centre-piece on your table!! Requires mainly hand work\stitching with some basic machine work. Wednesday 2 Sept DAY 1-9am pm You will piece each panel together. These pieces will be completed as "homework" ready for day 2. Wednesday 9 Sept DAY 2-9am pm To join and construct Train and make 1 x carriage. Wednesday September 2 nd + Wednesday September 9 th 9.00am-4.30pm (2 sessions = one class) Class Fee = $ $40 Pattern & Kit* + extra materials will be required. The class room is situated up a flight of stairs; if you need assistance lifting your machines and equipment up to the class room please ask. Quilt Club Thank You WHEN: WEEKDAY Option Every 2 nd Tuesday of the month 10am 4pm (except for January) WEEKEND Option Every 2 nd Saturday of the month 10am 4pm (except for January) WHERE: Upstairs at the classroom COST: $5 for each session you attend FORMAT: This is NOT a class but a meeting of like-minded people where you bring along your sewing machine, fabric and supplies to work on a project of your choice. There will NOT be a tutor but rather go to people in the class who are happy to help others. The group will work together and help each other out with ideas on cutting/stitching their quilting project. AIM: To provide a place for a group of people who love to quilt. Perfect for beginners or others who just need a helping hand or a starting step in the right direction or perhaps you just simply enjoy stitching in a group and absorbing the fun, creative energy! NEWSLETTERS: At this stage there will not be any newsletters issued on a monthly basis but rather you turn up for a session when you like or are able. 6 Machine Embroidery Club WHEN: Weekday 3 rd Tuesday of the month, bi-monthly and therefore held in November, January, March, May, July and September. 9.30am 12.30pm each session. WHERE: Upstairs at the classroom COST: $5 for each session you attend + sometimes a little extra for a kit FORMAT: Each session will include a different machine embroidery project whether it is simply learning how to stitch on towels, a small project done in the hoop or a different technique such as cutwork or applique. There will be a tutor for each session and will either be Linda or Mary-Clare. Digitizing software and other areas can also be covered depending on the group s preference. AIM: To provide a hands-on learning environment for you to discover more about your embroidery machine. It is important to us that our customers are enjoying their machines and getting as much from them as possible. The Machine Embroidery Club is perfect for all Janome or Elna machine embroidery owners whether the machine is an embroidery only model or a sewing/embroidery machine. NEWSLETTERS: Newsletters will be issued on a regular basis at least two weeks before each session to inform you of the project and allow for you to let us know whether you would like to attend in order to have enough project/design material on hand for that particular session. Newsletters can be ed or sent via post. BENEFITS: To gain greater knowledge and confidence when using your embroidery machine. Enjoy a fun morning out with like-minded people and be inspired to push the machine embroidery limits! JANOME Club WHEN: 1 st Saturday of the Month (except for January) 2pm 4pm WHERE: Upstairs at the classroom COST: $2 for each session you attend FORMAT: Each session will firstly cover a certain topic and include demonstrations of different feet/accessories and/or other products and/or techniques to best utilitize your sewing machine. The second part is open to the members to bring along show and tell to share ideas with the group or simply ask questions. AIM: To highlight through demonstration and display of samples (rather than a class where you bring along your machine) what amazing things you can create using your sewing machine. It is all about getting the most from your machine and being happy and confident when using it.
