Take a deep breath, drop those feed dogs and start machine quilting! In this class, you ll learn to freemotion quilt some basic designs including curved lines, meandering, echoing, and loops. Wouldn t it be nice to have a strawberry quilt to inspire these pleasant thoughts and bring a smile to your face? In this class, you ll learn to make this sweet strawberry block using a variety of piecing methods. This is a great scrap project start pulling those reds, pinks and greens now! 2 T-Shirt Quilt Classes in GREEN are great for Beginners! New Class! Kids Sewing Class This year Pennington Quilt Works is offering a sewing camp for kids filled with fun and creative projects. We will focus on learning basic sewing skills and build on those skills as the week progresses. The goal of the class is that each student will go home everyday with a completed project and a sense of accomplishment. By the end of the week she or he will possess the skills and confidence to sew gifts for friends and family, decorative pillows and other projects inspired by creativity. Open to ages 9 to 16. Calling all quilters, sewers and crafters! American Patchwork & Quilting is challenging you to join their efforts to Make a Pillowcase, Make a Difference. Every pillowcase can make a difference in your community. A pillowcase can provide comfort for a cancer patient, hope for a foster child, encouragement for a battered woman, or beauty for a nursing home resident. PQW is hosting a Pillowcase Challenge Day on Monday, June 22, 11-4pm. Bring your enthusiasm, we will supply pillowcase kits and sewing machines. We have a fun technique to show you, that you will use over and over. Add your pillowcase to the 1 million pillowcase goal. Please call or stop by to register for a time slot. Gather your old t-shirts and use them to make a memory quilt, adapting thr pattern to meet your needs and t- shirts. We will discuss several design options, learn to prepare the blocks and begin to put them together. We will also consider photo printing on fabric as a possibility for inclusion in future quilts. This is a design and technique class only, so we will not complete the quilt in class. Rotary cutting skills and the knowledge of quilt construction are REQUIRED for this class. Instructor: Ro, $54, Wednesday September 9 AND September 30, 6:30-9:30 New Class! Northern Neighbors A spectacular Maple Leaf quilt that can be made in one of two sizes, just in time for fall! You can elect to go with the pictured Red and White, with Batiks (love this) or with your favorite fall fabrics. The original leaf design uses three Studio 180 Design tools to produce the points of each leaf - Corner Beam, Split Rects, and Wing Clipper I tools. Class will include instruction and practice with all three tools plus sewing, pressing and construction techniques, and well as a small bit of paper foundation piecing procedures. This quilt features intricate maple leaves and Page 2 flying geese, celebrating Deb s Northern Neighbors fans! Always the Season Once again, the popular combination of Faye Burgo s fabric designs and Vicki Bellino s talents bring us to our holiday 2015 BOM. Vicki was inspired by the Christmas tree, her favorite part of the holidays. Surrounding the tree are traditional blocks accented with Faye s rich paisley fabrics. Includes patterns and all fabric for top, binding, and a 2-1/2 ruler needed in month 5. Pick up your block in the store or have it shipped to you (shipping fee will be added). Each month is $ Starts June 1 and runs for 6 months. You ll be done just in time for Christmas. Note: you can still sign up for this BOTM Orange Peels and Improv Orange peels are beautiful and striking traditional blocks that can be manipulated in exciting ways. Here we ll use them with improvisational piecing to make a baby quilt that you ll be proud to show off. In class 1 you ll learn the stitch and flip method for making the orange peels. Make some in class and the rest at home. In class 2 you ll use your lowvolume prints to stitch them into a quilt top that is uniquely your own. For intermediate sewists. 3 Page 3 Quilts for Kids On the first Tuesday of each month a group of charity-minded quilters meets at PQW to sew together for the organization, Quilts for Kids. Quilts are given to children who are ill, abused, or in difficult situations who could use the comfort of a quilt made for them. Experienced quilters only, please. Please bring your lunch or snack, your machine and sewing supplies. Quilt kits will be provided. Please register ahead so we know how many to expect. Private Class For times when a regularly scheduled class just won t do, we offer private classes to fill the void. Let s say that a class you're interested in requires rotary skills, and you re still snipping along with scissors. Well a 1-hour private class will bring you up to speed. Or say that you really want to get the hang of paper-piecing or some other skill. Or maybe our classes just don t fit in your schedule. Talk to any one of us and we ll find you the right person at the right time to teach you what you need to know. $25 per hour per person. Policy for class registration You must pay for a class in full in order to receive the class supplies list and to reserve your place. You may register by phone, on line, or in the store. If you need to cancel, please do so at least 10 days prior to the first class in order to receive a full refund. If an emergency arises and you cancel less than 10 days before the first class, but at least one day before, a class certificate will be issued. Please use this for emergencies only as late cancellations can be problems for us. All books and patterns and some special tools required for a class can be purchased at a 20% discount after paid registration. Instructor: Arlene, $27, Monday July 20, 6-9 New Class! Tipsy Tumbler Make this cute tumbler quilt using a quick and easy technique created by the Missouri Star Quilt Co. All you need are 5 squares and some background fabric to make the blocks. There are no seams to match just fold, press and sew. Make each block distinct by tipping the tumbler in a different direction. Half the fun of making this quilt is choosing the fabrics, use a charm pack, juvenile prints, or fussy cut novelty fabric for a unique themed quilt. Required: magazine and ruler. Instructor: Sue, $27, Thursday, July 16, 5-8 New Class! Sewn Seeds Sewn Seeds is available only at participating quilt shops who agree to teach the classes. Lucky you! We have it here at PQW! Each month for five month you will receive a design download, plus expert guidance from Patty. Each of the intricate block is created (pieced, appliqued, and quilted) in your embroidery hoop, then assembled with a very special technique. All embroidery formats are included. We've made ours using 36 9" squares, plus border squares, but the designs are also available in smaller sizes for smaller hoops. The design downloads will include all formats. Our quilt will finish at 70" x 70" but other finishing options are available. Experience with your embroidery machine is needed. Migrating Geese Learn a great technique for making pieced border strips, modern strip quilt, etc. In class you'll be working on making a sample row or two to become familiar with the process and then see a number of samples for future project planning. Hints and tips to help improve the required precision piecing techniques will be addressed and shared as well as steps for how to adapt the border to numerous other size options. The Tucker Trimmer will not only ease the way you make this block, but also how you make half-square triangles, combination and quarter square block going forward. At pick up, one of our Bernina specialists will spend some time with you to be sure you know the basics of running your machine. Then we ll schedule 2 private hours with you and a Bernina educator to begin exploring with you all you d like to learn. From there you ll be guided into more private or small group classes to go as far as you d like. Here are the areas you can expect to cover in classes: Sewing Machine Basics Machine Basics covering basic operations, practical applications and machine care. Stitching Fun Decorative stitching, memory, alphabets, combi-mode and special techniques. For all electronic machines. Quiltmaking Skills Special attention to those features on your Bernina that are especially useful in quilting. Piecing, machine appliqué, free-motion quilting, and using the walking foot are covered. We ll include the BSR if you have one. Embroidery Basics Learn to find, set up, and manipulate designs, and stitch them out with success. Unravel the mysteries of threads, stabilizers, and hooping. For machines with embroidery units. More Embroidery Techniques Learn to do embroidered appliqué (our favorite!) while you dig deeper into your machine s embroidery features and perfect your skills. Take basics class first. My Bernette When you purchase your Bernette from PQW, we will arrange your individual or small class sessions to fit your schedule. My Bernina 7 and 8 Series The Newest 7and 8 Series machines have their own unique features and we ll tailor your sessions to them. Software Sampler Club 2014 A monthly club that will explore Bernina Embroidery Software 7. Each month we will watch a video presented by Amanda Whitlatch of Bernina of America, covering some component of Software 7. You will receive a CD that will include a Power- Point of the video, written instructions and project suggestions. Then we will walk through the lessons ourselves. Bring your laptop with the software installed, if you have it. But this is also a great opportunity to see what Bernina Embroidery Software 7 is all about even if you do not yet own it. Don t have a Bernina? That s okay.
